Strength:

Lots of amenities for the price, fit & finish, paint job, reliability

Weakness:

rust, antenna click after about 5 years, creaky suspension, uncomfortable for long distance driving

Bought this car new. 5spd stick, 4cyl. Fairly reliable, fairly comfortable town car, uncomfortable seats for long distance drives.

This was my second Honda. The first was an '81 Accord that I sold after 12 years as it was starting to burn oil and rust. I just sold this one after 13 years. Not burning any oil, but rust was starting. Solid engine. After 114k miles, I have no regrets.

This car held its value extremely well. After 13 years, it sold for $2800 on the first day the ad ran. Amazing.

read my overview above

The purchase price was canadian brand new all taxes included

I was originally very happy with this purchase. It drove well, has great comfort, styling and features. Slowly but surely thought I have had problem after problem and now I am ready to sell the piece of crap. Here is the list:

1. barke pads replaced and rotors machined at only 25,000km- Honda covered rotors but not pads

2. Centre cd/air control consol dead and replaced under warranty at about 30,000km

3. passenger power window problems and track replaced under warranty at 35,000km

4. centre console dead again and replaced under warranty at about 45,000km

5. New pads and rotors (my cost) ** I should note, I always suspected the brakes to be strange as they would slightly ABS type pulse when not necessary- told dealer he ignored

6. Window problems with both front windows (they intermittently don't work and would occaissionally go up and down by themselves)- twice reported to dealer but no repairs

7. 75,000km the passenger window completely inoperable and stuck down. Fought tooth and nail with the dealer about cost- they covered the part

8. 90,000km anbd ONLY 3 MONTHS later same passenger window stuck down again. About to battle royal with new dealer as I have just moved 8,000km across the country!

Other annoyances during ownership:

a. headlights cut when heating/cooling kicks on since new

b. gear hunting transmission since about 40,000km

c. back panel of drivers seat clips permantly broken so panel falls off once in a while. Just fell off one time about 50,000km

d. driver window is still intermitnent and goes up and down by itself sometimes

e. interior door handle finish coat peeling off

f. new battery needed at 80,000km

On the bright side, there have been few majour problems! The car has never "broken down" on me or left me in the lurch!.... I am starting to wonder though if the writing isn't on the wall that breakdowns are next.

Over the three years i have owned the car the time, money, energy and hassle dealing with all of these minor issues again and again has been extremely aggrovating. For a car that i bought priomarily for it's reputation of quality and reliability- I feel extremely shortchanged!

I wonder if I will ever buy a honda again?!?

Everything

This car completely and totally sucks. I owned it less than 1 month and everything started creaking and cracking 2 weeks after I bought it. I immediately brought it back and went across the street to pickup the brand new Hyundai Azera. It's like night and day. The Azera cost me 3,500$ less than the Accord and it's a million times better, with a much better warranty!! Anyone who buys an Accord without looking at the Azera should have their heads examined.

Strength:

Dependability, gas mileage, amenities, and price paid for a used vehicle

Weakness:

Interior features subject to easy breakage, uncomfortable seats, poor acceleration and engine power in the four cylinder.

I bought this vehicle due to the increase in high gas prices and as a second vehicle. I now utilize it in my day to day driving activities almost exclusively.

The vehicle had 170K miles on it when I bought it. The owner stated that he had replaced the A/C condenser, CV joints and boots, and alternator. When I went to first look at it, the owner stated it had a small oil leak coming from the front of the engine. Found that it was coming from the Timing belt area. Once I saw how profusely the oil leak was, I stated I would not be interested in buying the vehicle. The owner in turn replaced the seals, Timing belt, gasket and water pump. Still sold me the vehicle for the $ 1,000 I stated was all i was willing to pay for the vehicle.

3,000 miles later, the oil is still as clean as the day it was changed. The vehicle has not used any oil. It is a 4 cylinder with a five speed manual transmission. Never expected it to be a peppy engine, but I am impressed with the way it moves out. Have had it up to over 80 miles per hour and continues to accelerate without hesitation.

The gas mileage is impressive compared to my SUV. Still takes about $ 40 to fill it, but gets close to 30 MPG.

It has a great sound system, but I find the seats to be somewhat uncomfortable in the seat area. May have to do with the years of wear, but I don't think so.

All of the interior door handles were broken except for the driver's side, which I understand is very typical. It appears that Honda paid special attention to engine design and performance, exterior design, but used cheap parts in putting together the interior. I do like the accessories, which include electric Sun Roof, power windows and door locks, and cruise control. Several little compartments to put things in along with convenient cup holders.

I believe this is an excellent vehicle as regards dependability. In my view it is an excellent second car for someone who enjoys weekends in their SUV, but does not want to go the gas expense the rest of the week. Also would be an excellent vehicle for a College Student, who otherwise could not afford to buy a new vehicle and could not afford high maintenance.

Model Reviewed: ACCORD COUPLE LX SE

Strength:

gas mileage, safety features, abs

Weakness:

clunky transmission, slow

I have been waiting to lease this vehicle ever since I first sat in it in a car show. Being a high performance individual I would have preferred to get the v-6 coupe with the six speed, but the way gas prices have been and the extra cost, I knew I would have to settle for the 4 cylinder with the automatic. I have never been a fan of 5 speed automatics and still am not, but will say this is the best 5 speed I have driven yet. The only gripe I have with it is it makes a clunking sound when changing from reverse to drive as well as making a whining noise at lower speeds. Moving on to the engine, I must say the first time I drove it I was disappointed with the lack of power. I guess I was expecting more power from a 2.4 liter rated at 165 hp. I have owned cars with lesser hp that seemed more peppy and powerful. However, it does cruise at 80 and beyond very easily. The transmission downshifts with a little pressure on the gas easily enough. The gas mileage for this size engine is impressive. I drive mostly highway miles and average around 34 mph. The suspension, as one would expect from a Honda is superb. Interior features are well laid out and has many thoughful features with a good sounding stock stereo with six speakers. The seats are comfortable, but due to the bottom bolsters, if you are not exactly center it is uncomfortable on your rear. Some minor gripes is the car when put into reverse wants to really take off without any trottle given. The car also seems to wander alot on groved pavement more than other cars I have driven. Also due to the sensitivity of this car with the steering inputs and the wandering it took me much longer to get used to this cars personality then any other car I have driven. My first thoughts about this is that it could acutally be dangerous for a new driver to drive.

Strength:

Styling, smooth ride, lots of standard safety features (ABS, lots of airbags)

Weakness:

gas mileage not nearly as good as sticker says, even when driven gingerly

This is a great car! Very sleek, almost European design, modern interior; I like how the dash lights up red instead of the ugly green in the sedan. Very roomy for a two-door, lots of conveniences such as 4 cupholders, 2 power outlets, and a overhead sunglasses compartment. Although the engine could use a little more kick, it handles great and runs very smoothly. I only paid 18000, but after sitting in, it felt like a 30000 dollar car. Knowing I won't have to do much maintenance on it is also a plus!

Strength:

Very reliable. Interior is good. No noise except the terrible seats.

Weakness:

Ugly, underpowered, low torque, too many blind spots. Doesn't handle as well as golf/jetta (had golf for 5 years, good car but unreliable). Terrible seats, I am only 6.2' and this car is too small for me. A/C terrible. Wind noise. Bad breaks.

This is a solid car. I can't believe that some people are saying that it is a sports/performance car? I guess they don't know what they are talking about. This is a good reliable car. I've had it for 3 years and never had any problems. Only replaced front ball joints and front brakes and now it is at 90K. Bottom line, if you can't afford a nice car and you want to have a car that will take you from A to B without any problems, than Honda is for you.
