Strength:
Regular basic car.
Weakness:
Transmission failed at 66,000 miles and was expensive to replace (over 4,000 bucks).
Really just a basic car and nothing special. The transmission went out at 66,000 miles of easy driving. Honda, and especially Sunset Honda of San Luis Obispo CA were NO HELP, and were in fact rude and nasty. I guess they don't want to admit that Hondas have problems. Less interior room than my 02 Camry I was excited to get in my first Accord. Purchased two years ago with 95K mi. I was amazed at how it looked and felt new. It is an amazing car. Ride is good and sporty. The V6 is quick and responsive. Looks are great, interior quality is better than any American company can deliver at 30 grand. This car still looks and feels new at 120k mi. Can't really mention any..... Honda needs to keep an eye on prices though! Hyundai is coming! The current Sonata might only need one more model change and they will be at par with Honda and Toyota. The accord deserves to be the number one midsize sedan since 10 years. It does everything very well or excellent. I like the feel of tightness and solidity, which you only find with expensive German brands. Great mileage; I can easily get it up to 33 on the highway (withourt being a pain in the .... for others. My wife can only get it up to 28 miles per gallon on the highway, and I have to admit, on a 800 miles trip to Florida she arrived 16 minutes earlier than I would have....... as a Realtor, I need a car with ample room for the rear passengers, and it should look the part. The Accord does. No comparision with the overdrawn new Camry. The Accord looks more valuable, and I think it is. I traded in an Acura 3.2 TL, and i only miss one feature in my Accord: the option to shift manually. Everything else is there, and I only need to fill her up with regular, which was important for me as well. Good size trunk. Overall rating: excellent price/value ratio. Rust around wheel wells; although not as bad as some of them I have seen Bought car with 204,000 miles and knew from experience that it would be a great car. The only things I have replaced on it in the 40,000 miles I have had the car have been the timing belt and water pump; spark plugs; hydraulic clutch pump; muffler, and misc pieces from the interior. I now have 240,000 miles. Similar Products Used: 85 Honda Prelude; 88 Honda Crx; 97 Honda Accord; 99 Honda Accord; Odysey; 00 Honda CRV; 06 Civic. |

Accord Coupe V6 6MT
Strength:
Anticipated reliability, features and amenities, power/acceleration. 6 speed transmission (despite a long throw)
Weakness:
Suspension is too soft to be considered sporty despite what Honda claims which does not make handling a strong point on this car. Tires are too skinny which doesn't help the handling flaw I just mentioned. Other than that, this car is great. Traded my German luxury car for this car because of the anticipated reliability, cheaper maintenance/repair costs. Not to mention, I wouldn't feel bad racking up a lot of miles on it like I did with my Audi. I was looking for something that required regular gas but also provided a certain level of sportiness and luxury. I thought this car would be perfect. So far, I'm very satisifed with the car. It doesn't have the solid German car feel but that can be easily fixed. It's faster. The V6 gets comparable if not better mileage on cheap gassthan the 1.8L inline 4 in my Audi. The car feels very torquey, especially for a Honda. The shifts are a little long, I was hoping for more of an S2000/RSX-s type throw and feel. But not a huge problem. The ride is comfortable no doubt, but I got spoiled with the planted road feel of my Audi that I have found the ride on this car to be on the soft side and not very sporty - which I am in the process of changing. Overall, I'm so far very happy with the car and look forward to many miles of problem-free ownership (knock on wood). I'm loving the navigation/satellite and 6 disc changer. I wish it had xenon lighting like the Audi. I feel like I'm driving in the dark with the halogens. My 2 previous cars had xenon projectors. Little torque steering
Overall this has been a grat purchase. I was originally looking for a european sedan like the Audi A4, Volvo s60, and VW Passat. But after reading horror stories with these luxury cars and just checking the prices of parts and service I changed my mind. This Accord does everything well. It handles well and steering is responsive, it accelerates well and brakes even better. It is quiet on the HW, that ends when you open the moonroof though. So far it has been giving me 28 mpg on mixed driving and that is pretty good for a sedan this size and 150 HP. Despite I paid a bit on the high side for this car, I am happy with it. MAterials inside are first order and overall it is very well built. 50000 mi on the clock and it feels brand new. Similar Products Used: MAzda 626

Weakness:
Transmission, transmission, transmission! This car looked very nice and had alot of extras such as heated front seats, nice leather interior, moonroof, dual ac, but at 50,000 miles the power door lock stopped working and I had to pay 300 to repair that, and then at 56,000 miles the transmission went out, they had recalled the transmission but their fix was to add a lubricant kit at one of my previous oil changes which obviously did not help, they did pay for the transmission, but I was still stuck with labor which was about 1,000 dollars. This car has been a big disappointment, and I quickly traded it in after the transmission repair, if you are going to buy one, get an extended warranty!!! The loaner they gave me was also the same model and it's power door locks were also not functioning and the transmission was also acting up! Similar Products Used: toyota celica |

Still runs great at 166k miles, looks nice and fun to drive. Up until recently no major mechanical problems.
Weakness:
Is it just me, or does the CV boot break in every Honda ever made? Also timing belt changes are expensive!! A few problems, but overall dependable and a good car. Bought it with about 95k miles and soon after put in a new clutch...but I learned to drive a stick on it so I'll take the blame for that. First real problem was a busted CV boot, that happened shortly after I bought it and now (at 166k miles) there is another CV problem. Also the cooling system has problems, car overheats when it's not moving fast enough and A/C also quits working unless car is moving. Overall though it's been very reliable, never left me stranded and even with the problems it has now I would still take it on trips with confidence. I would definitely buy it again. General repair record. Engine, transmission trouble free.
Weakness:
Weak, unreliable and expensive to repair AC. Can't drive the car in the rain without the AC. This has been a great car except for one fatal flaw. The AC must be on when you drive in the rain because the windows fog and visibility is nil. The AC breaks in repeated $800 increments. The AC has always been lousy but heat you can live with, no visibility you can die with. I am facing a $2500 estimate for the latest AC repair. I guess I got my money's worth out of the car but it gauls me that I have a car whose engine runs like a top and I am going to have to replace it because of the AC. Can't Honda get this right. |
