Ford Thunderbird (2002 - 2005) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

After being on hiatus for several years, Ford introduced a new Thunderbird for 2002. Returning to the original formula for the Thunderbird, the latest version had a two-seat coupe/convertible layout like the first-generation Thunderbird and retrofuturistic styling to match.

Strength:

Great power for a non-sports car Beautiful leather interior and nice exterior Smooth ride and good handling

Weakness:

A little slow off the line Very thirsty for gas in city driving Sky high insurance if under 20

This Thunderbird is my very first car. I love it. I had driven V8 cars before and could not have anything less. It''s a little slow off the line but more than makes up for it in the higher gears. Never have lost a street race yet. Only problems have been a broken ignition switch, and cracked intake manifold which Ford has a recall on anyway.

Strength:

Roomy interior No oil leaks yet Top end speed Dependability

Weakness:

3 speed tranny, whats up with that? A 4 cyl. can get me off the line. NO cupholders door handles break easily wiring problems front end shake (even after alignments and mechanic intervention)

I love this car. Its a 5.0 HO engine, with independent rear suspension. It gets about 22 mpg, which is great for a V8 motor.

Strength:

It was good while it lasted.

Weakness:

Transmission slips, moonroof quit, dash lights went out, power seats are slow, windows come off track easily, little rust.

I really was not pleased with the car all in all. When I first got it everything was perfect I must say. It was clean and very beautiful. The paint was very brilliant and the body was perfect. Then the problems began.

Strength:

Great V8 power. Comfy, smooth ride. Great styling, and interior.

Weakness:

Cup holders!!! The location of them drives me crazy. Other than that, a world class car in my opinion.

The 1994 thunderbird is a great car. So far I have had no problems. The engine that I have is the 4.6 ohv with 205 hp. It''s a great highway runner with minimal road noise. Off the line isn''t too bad either. With no mods and a performance meter I ran a 7.8 0-60. Not bad. I just wish that there was a manual trans option. In 94'' the technology of the car was way ahead of its time. In mine, I have the premium sound stereo and climate control. Not to mention the dual electric seats. The only thing that I would change would be the cup holders. The size of them is fine, but I would certainly change the location of them

Model Reviewed: TurboCoupe 5-speed

Strength:

Solidly-built body, good handling and brakes, comfortable seats, powerful engine, good fuel mileage, high "fun quotient"

Weakness:

The main weakness is a consequence of the age of the car and its relatively limited volume: parts will be increasingly difficult to find, and some parts are unique to the TurboCoupe (ABS brake system and rear calipers, motor mounts)

This is my second TurboCoupe, purchased in Dec., 2001. I bought one new in 1988, drove it 180,000 enjoyable miles before trading it in on a Q45 (big mistake). I like the TurboCoupe''s power, the stick shift, ride control, good mileage, comfort and features. Since they''re 14 years old, good ones are quite hard to find. My second had been babied by the original owner who''d put only 36,000 miles on it. Exterior and interior are like new, everything worked except the A/C.

Strength:

THE POWER OF THE ENGINE, AND THE COMFORT OF THE INTERIOR.

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF FORD VEHICLES, AND I LIKED THE BODY STYLING OF THE THUNDERBIRD MORE THAN THE MUSTANG. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT AUTOMOBILE, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. i PLAN ON ADDING SOME UPGRADES TO THE ENGINE, CHASSIS, BODY, AND THE INTERIOR.

Strength:

An excellent car on the highway (wind barely moves it) 1700 rpm at 60 mph, good gas mileage, lots of room in the interior even in the back seat.

Weakness:

shallow trunk, brake rotors (suggest when they go and they will get high performance ones if u can afford them), I have never seen a more stupid place for a cup holder in my life (in the centre glove box)

My car has about 85,000 miles on it. It''s black, I bought it because my old car 91 t-bird with 3.8 didn''t have near enough power to be driving safely through Toronto trafic. I like the car alot better than the mustang which I have thought about trading for. I have the 4.6 in my car and like it. By the way, the 4.6 and the 3.8 get the same mileage. I do wish it had a few more hp (such a motorhead) but it is a good motor and can keep up with most anything on the street. Brakes are becoming an issue because the rotors seem to be made of butter (they warp quickly and easily and can only be turned once). The transmission is starting to slip on it and one day I will have to change it but not too soon I hope. I have had very few problems, fuel lines leaking, dirty MAS sensor which made the check engine light come on, cracked intake manifold which Ford fixed at no cost to me, there is an extended warranty on the intake. But other than that, no other problems. The car is almost as fast as a mustang (I did a 15.93 at a dragstrip last year) without the hefty insurance bill

Strength:

The 3.8L v6 is a great motor ! It has lots of power on the high end. This car will take you where you want to go comfortably. It manuveurs on windy roads like a sports car! Good milage too....20-25 mpg

Weakness:

Acceleration is a little slow. This is a heavy car and the V6 is a bit under powered in low end torque. I blew my head gaskets, which is a pain. Bad on snow and ice. Reccomendation: Good snowtires and weight in the trunk.

This is a woderful car for an older model. It is so much fun to drive. It has the performance that you want with a ride that is comparible to a Caddy. I have had some problems with the electronic dash lights and heater. The power windows are very slow in the winter too. Over all I would recommend this car to any one !!!

Fast, comfortable, and looks good. hasnt broken on me yet

Weakness:

The stock pin strip peels off like a banna. Other than that it is heavy (slows it down) and.... cup holder sux. Get in fights cuz people are jealous..

I Love my car so much! It is better than any stock honda that ever hit the road. It is still stock but im lookin for future improvments. Im not sure how many horsepower it is but ive seen them at 205 but mine will go faster!

Model Reviewed: 4.6L V8 Thunderbird LX

Strength:

fast, comfortable, nice look ( with aftermarket wing)

Weakness:

lots...look above....

I bought this car new from the dealer in 1997 (left over car). I have put 129,000 miles on it since, mostly highway miles. I have noticed that the car has the same major problems evryone else has experienced. The shaking of the steering due to the brakes/rotors is starting to become a pricey problem. The tranny is starting to go too. I can tell that if i step on it and leave some rubber on the road, I will also leave the transmission with it. Other than that, I have some wierd problem with the "check engine light." It wont turn off, I have had the car serviced over and over again, and have not found the problem. I have had the connection rewired about three time now, so i know it is not just a bad sensor. I have also had problems with the moonroof. The gasket has given me tremendous leaking problems, and refuses to work after being replaced over and over again. Those are the main problems with the car. On the better side, the car is fast enough, and is quite comfortable. Overall nice car, but wont be a long lasting car (will probably die somewhere in the near future).
