Ford Thunderbird (2002 - 2005) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

After being on hiatus for several years, Ford introduced a new Thunderbird for 2002. Returning to the original formula for the Thunderbird, the latest version had a two-seat coupe/convertible layout like the first-generation Thunderbird and retrofuturistic styling to match.

Big. Didn't damage easily when other cars ran into it. Good car to bring your boyfriend. The car would be considered a classic today.

Weakness:

gas hog! hard to turn u-turns.

I wish they still made cars that big! My car had a bench seat and I could fit 3-4 adults in the front. The trunk was big.

Strength:

About 1 HP per cubic inch, You dont feel cramped and bent over behind the wheel and the wheel gets out of your way for entry and exiting. You can make yourself dizzy driving in circles. Dual climate control and wonderful sound make it all the better.

Weakness:

Removing the top is for 2 people and you have to be careful were you store it. If you are 6' 2" forget about it you are too tall to ride and you will have to duck to see through the windshield.

To Drive is to love. My wife and I drove it to a parking lot and back to the dealer. The acceleration is phenominal. Ford may not want to call it a "Sports car" but I like it better than a vette. The curves and lines make it visualy appealing and the handling and comfprt make it fun. The sound system is no slouch. This is the first car I have driven that I did not have a list of things to upgrade after I left the dealer. It is all togeather. If you can still find one get it. The 2002 will only go up in value in the years to come. I do not give an outstanding rating unless you have realy earned it. Congradulations Ford you earned it.

THE SUSPENSION, THE QUIETNESS OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC, THE MUSIC SYSTEM, THE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL, AND THE OVERALL HANDLING AT ANY SPEED.

Weakness:

THE COVER IS HARD FOR ONE PERSON TO TAKE OFF AND ACTUALLY IS IMPOSSIBLE. BUT IS WORTH TWO PEOPLE TAKING THE HARD TOP OFF AND BESIDES, YOU DON'T WANT TO BE THE ONLY ONE ENJOYING IT

ONCE I SAW THE NEW THUNDERBIRD I NEW I HAD TO HAVE IT. IT IS GREAT. THE HANDLING AND THE WAY IT TAKES CORNERS IS WONDERFUL. THE CLASSY LOOK AND STYLE BOTH INSIDE AND OUT MAKES IT THE CAR TO HAVE. I HAVE THE BLACK CAR AND EVEN THOUGH BLACK IS TUFF TO KEEP UP I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING. THE MUSIC SYSTEM IS TERRIFIC AND FEELS LIKE I'M AT A SYMPHONY. I HAVE TAKEN A COUPLE OF TRIPS WITH THIS CAR AND THE TRUNK IS ADEQUATE FOR LUGGAGE IF YOU DON'T TAKE A TRUNK. GOLD CLUBS? BETTER TAKE THE OTHER CARE.

WE HAVE HAD A 1994 AND 1993 THUNDERBIRD AND THEY DON'T COMPARE TO THIS SPORTY VERSION. SURE, IT'S NOT A SPORTS CAR PURSAE, BUT IT SURE FEELS LIKE ONE WHEN YOU'RE DRIVING IT.

With the Sport Model (4.6 L): Performance Handling Styling

Weakness:

Composite Intake Manifold Transmission (flutter) Brake Rotors (warp)

Purchased the car 4 years ago and have been very satisfied with it. Since I have owned it, I have had the dealer replace the intake manifold (cracked) at no cost, and have added cross-drilled rotors with carbon fibber brake pads, and a performance chip to the computer. The chip greatly improved the performance of the car. Because the transmission "short shifted" at 4,200 rpm, the 4.6L only produced 205 hp with 285 ft lbs of torque. Also, the top spped was electronically limited to 105 mph. With the addition of the chip, the transmissiuon shifts at 5,200 rpm and the horsepower and torque increase to 226 hp and 318 ft lbs. Also, the shifts are now much firmer and the top end limiter is gone.

Strength:

Elegant styling is what first attracted me to the car and make it a real head-turner. The hardtop gives it a different look and makes it a year-round vehicle. Performance has exceeded my expectations in every area. It has great handling and gives a very comfortable ride. For a convertible it's super quiet at highway speeds and has minimal interior wind. The sound system is more than adequate and the electronic controls provide all the latest features and comfort. I especially like the Thunderbird Blue semimetallic exterior with contrasting blue interior panels.

Weakness:

Removing/replacing the 83lb hardtop is a two-person operation. Cargo space is very limited. Limited production resulted in excessive dealer markups.

The new Thunderbird roadster is still in its first year of production. Its classic styling and reverse wedge profile makes it instantly recognizable on the road, and it attracts a lot of attention on the street or highway. Not a sports car, but its performance and handling are outstanding as a boulevard cruiser and cross-country driver. The 3.9L DOHC V8 provides 252hp, and the 0-60 time is 7s. Fuel economy is 17/23 with 91 octane gas. Two models are offered, deluxe with 21-spoke painted aluminum wheels and premium with 7-spoke chrome wheels and traction control. Also comes with an optional removable hardtop with the trademark porthole windows. Full or partial color interior accent packages are available. Five speed automatic transmission, leather seats, dual climate control and audiophile sound with builtin 6-CD changer are standard. Choice of five colors - black, white, red, yellow and blue. I got the blue premium with hardtop. Have had it 9 months and driven 8000 trouble free miles, including extended cross-country trips. Best car I've ever owned. Don't think I'd ever trade it.

None. This is my first Thunderbird and first convertible. Some call it a retro design, but apart from some styling cues and the overall profile, I think it's a unique and very modern looking automobil

Strength:

- Bad boy looks - comfy seats

Weakness:

- v6 not an option in this car - shoddy assembly - troublesome breaks - floor was made to rust - engine likes to run hot

I thought buying an eleven year old t-bird with only 133000 kms on it would be a great buy. Man, was I mistaken. The only positive thing I have to say about this car is that the engine runs smooth and that it has very comfortable seats. Other than that, this car is a horrible nightmare. I know it's a big, heavy car, but honestly, a 3.8L engine should be able to push it around. The fact that it doesn't makes me question the poor mileage. Also, the car is stucturally very weak. They should have just kept on going with the body on frame chassis. This car is my first Ford and ultimately my last. I'm going back to Volkswagen where they know how to put great cars together.

Strength:

The design is probably the car's best strength. I always get good looks and comments about the styling. The interior is roomy and well thought out, with all controls right in place and easy to read(day or night). Then there is the engine. While it isn't the most powerful on the road (most V-6's nowadays make more power than this one-205), it has plenty of torque to pull you out of most any situation. It is somewhat dead below 2500r.p.m., but once you reach that point, you get a strong shove in your seat as you watch the tach race to redline. The transmission shifts pretty smoothly (for its age), and the ride itself is pretty comfortable-and the seats are arguably the best ever made. And the truck size is actually usable, as are the back seats.

Weakness:

1)The size. While it is good to have in case of an accident(3750 curb), its unnesecary sound deadening and bulk make you burn more gas and hinder your acceleration, and it limits the amount of parking spaces you can fit into. 2) The brakes. I have the standard setup(power discs and drums) and they struggle to keep it in check. 3)The tires/wheels. The wheels design is nice, but with the tall tires, it looks more like a pick-up. These were definately equiped for ride quality. 4)Build quality. Squeeks and rattles abound, normal Ford quirks. And, last but not least, it is too restrictive! Exhaust and intake were built to keep it quiet, not to help the car. Replace at once.

Only reason I went with a T-bird instead of a Mustang is the sleeper aspect. Most people don't expect you to hold your own in a car like this. It has been pretty reliable, with only minor complaints. Overall, a very nice car.
