Strength:

Great engine (V6), good handling and sport suspension, great looks, awesome z-rated tires, huge trunk space, nice dashboard and overall layout

Weakness:

Not enough room in the back; quality of some interior parts

I bought the car in ''94 after owning a ''92 GT Turbo (4 cyl, 12 valve) and I am very happy with it. No major problems with it (probably thanks to a Mazda engine) in 7+ years and 140,000 miles. I always kept it garaged and I still have people asking me about it as it looks beautiful. I got mine in automatic although having driven 5 spd all my life I probably should have stayed with the standard. It has plenty of power and I have smoked most other Japanese and German stock cars of similar category (in my college days). I have had some minor A/C problems early and not much else since.

Strength:

Great looking car, turns heads (not that many in Australia) Performance and handling are exceptional along with the standard stereo.

Weakness:

Service costs are expensive mainly due to the exchange rate. (1 US$ buys you 2 Ozzie $) I''ve done 100,000 km and am still using the original brakes (country driving) All I had to replace was the timing belt, drive belts, timing belt tensioner and electric aerial

It''s my first new car and the best car I''ve owned. Great for cruising the miles of roads we have in Oz. Had the paint treated from new and it still beads after 4 years. I get the feeling the right-hand drive export models were built with better quality control as everyone I know who has a Probe is quite happy with them.

VERY FEW!!! Looks sporty, comfortable seating, other than being so low

Weakness:

WAY TOO MANY! BEWARE OF THIS CAR! I''ve heard nothing but complaints from everyone I know who''s owned a Probe! Lets see if I can remember all that went wrong with it... Radiator, transmission, dashboard rattles, dim headlights, hose, windows leak when going through car wash, check engine light is on, leaks antifreeze, sounds like it''s falling apart on the highway... Oh, and it has lost it''s value enormously since I purchased it! I bought it for $8,000 and it''s not worth barely $5,000!!!! AVOID THIS CAR!!!

Looked nice & sporty when we bought it... but, alas... IT''S CRAP! We''ve only had it for 6 months and it''s been in to be fixed at least 5 times, 4 of those within the first 4 months! A hose went bad, the dashboard rattles, it''s leaking antifreeze (radiator went bad) & the smell was overwhelming, transmission is having problems that are not covered in our warranty (of all of the tranny parts covered in the warranty, the one that went bad is not). Car sound like it''s falling apart on the highway! Headlights are very dim! The dealer is crap! All of the people I dealt with at that dealer have been fired! It''s ridiculous!

Strength:

Great handleing, good stock power plant, stylin looks, not bad on gas.

Weakness:

Price of parts from dealers, cockpit noise.

Well Ive had the car almost 2 years, and have had only 2 mayjor setbacks with it, the water pump(pain in the ass to change) and i just dumped my MTX tranny)I love the car but my MTX went because I drive hard and have it moddified, headers, exchaust, CM Stage 3 Clutch, MSD Ignition, Mallory Fuel Pressure Regulator, Tokico Struts, Eibac lowering springs, High flow cat, and my new toy NOS, amoung other things. I know this car inside and out and the mazda kl03 motor is a great motor. If your mecanically inclined then i recomend this car, but if you cant change a tire or spark plug then dont buy it. Its part are expensive you go threw for or mazda but theres alot of after market stuff you can get to stay away from the backstabbers... ohh i mean dealers.

Goes fast.. Looks good.. Small..

Weakness:

Leaks oil, break lights go out horn doesnt work small the motor in the windows break parts are hard to find and VERY expensive when foun

I picked out a 1992 Ford Probe as my first car. When I first got the car, I loved it. It was the greatest car that I could have ever gotten. That was while it was setting in the garage getting worked on! It was bought used, with 130,000 miles on it. I loved it! Metallic blue, power everything, fast, beautiful. That was until I started driving it. The brake lights go out every month, the horn quit working, the driver side window doesnt roll up or down, the passenger side window only works from the drivers side, the oil leaks. I go through about 2 1/2 quarts of oil every 2-3 days. I dont recamend a probe. They look nice on the out side, and the inside has been kept very nice, and clean. Untill you drive it!DONT BUY A PROBE ... THEY ARE JUNK!!!!

Strength:

Good looks, fun to drive

Weakness:

was in the shop more than it wasnt.

My dad bought me a probe for my 16th birthday. At first the car was fun, and i loved driving it, then all the problems started, my car was in the shop probably about 5 months out of the 8 i owned it. The auto mechanic finally just had to replace the whole engin and everything that went with it. I would not buy this car or one like it. i do want a mustang though! Now i own a 1996 pontiac grand am, ive had it almost two years and not one problem so far!

Strength:

Dependable, good driver control, good braking.

Weakness:

No power (I''ve been smoked by city buses). I drive a 5sp. Test drove a used automatic and the auto''s transmission SUCKED. Since Probes are now discontinued, a buyer should be aware of all problems associated with a used car, regardless of the make and model. For example, I personally would never buy a used vehicle from a former driver like myself.

I love this car. I think it''s unfortunate that Ford discontinued this vehicle. It has a smooth ride, great control, good interior design and is on the whole very reliable. This is no sports car. It''s a midsized HATCHBACK, so if you want power buy a Mustang. The integrity problems that I have had with it (manual door locks failing) have been covered under warranty. I have had some wear and tear with this auto, but with the way I drive I''m shocked that I haven''t dropped the transmission. Main problems are due to flood damage (yeah, yeah). But I loved this car so much that I pushed it up a 45 degree incline 50 meters to keep it from getting totaled by the flood waters.

Tested older model automatic Probe. Nothing else that I have driven is similar.
