Strength:

roomy,power,durability,almost 300000 miles, yes 300K ,great ABS(no trouble).great electrical system(no trouble).best cooling system(no trouble).will buy another anytime but not 1992/93 models.still looks like new and runs like new.thanks to myself.no oil leaks.

Weakness:

terrible paint, lousy brakes(too small discs),windows regulators problems,5 times, every 120 k miles oil consumption(worn out valve stem seals).missing problems due to lousy spark plugs wires,or water seepage into the plug hole in heavy rain or after car wash, misses so badly people paid thousands of dollars for transmissions thinking that what was the problem.powerless after high speed driving.bad A/C connections(o-rings)was not easy to convert to R-134(must redo entire system).cheap exhaust.9 power lock solenoids replaced.very expensive parts.dealer wanted to charge me 7000 dollars to replace engine, costed me less than 100 dollars for valve stem seals and 10 hours labor every 120K.

will buy another one because most of the discribed problems are fixed or redesigned.

Strength:

Large interior, large trunk, solid road feel, plenty of extra power, not too much of a gas hog, functinal dash. All electrics are standard, air conditioning is strong.

Weakness:

Functinal dash, but very bland and about the same for years. Base model's interior fabrics are very bland

This is a company car, but I'm the exclusive driver. My company makes us drive many miles and has come to the conclusion after purchasing and using many different sedan style vehicles that the Crown Vic is the best one. Because we purchase them in fleet orders we get quite a discount, so any retail guess would be worthless to the reader. I do know that the average Crown Vic will run about $25,000 for the base plus some nice trim. $28,000-$29,000 stacks the car up with just about every feature you could desire.

My minimum driving is about 30,000 mi/yr. Each and every one is a pleasure. The company only orders the standard engine and handeling package, mostly for cost purposes. Despite that, the engine has plenty of pick-up and passing power. The ride without the handeling package is very soft, sometimes too soft in town, but nothing that you can't get used to. Highway handeling is superb and rough roads are smoothed out.

My job ocasionally puts me on dirt roads and unimproved back roads and the car handels mud and ruts like a champ. Very tough. We toe small trailers every now and then and the Vics are more than adaquate for that purpose.

I recommend this for anyone that wants a large car that handles great, has reasonable power and is flexible for many different tasks. Just a wonderful fleet car and has a lot of style for the individual user.

Try not to let the stigma of the "old man" get in the way of making a smart car choice.

Strength:

ABS Brakes, Traction Control, Full Size

Weakness:

Interior Styling, Interior Fabric

Mine is a company car, so I don't have pricing. I like this car. I did not want a Crown Vic, I did not like the image I thought it projected, (old men who drive 10 mph under the speed limit) but I choose it because of options available. Mine is equipped with the 210 hp engine, dual exhaust, 16 inch mag wheels, handling package and abs brakes. I could have choosen a Dodge Intrepid, (my second choice) or a Pontiac Bonneville.
The Crown Vic is ideal for highway driving. I average 35,000 to 40,000 miles a year. My Crown Vic smooths out everyone of those miles. Gas mileage is about 18 city, 21 highway. With the 210 hp engine, and the handling package, (I wouldn't own a Crown Vic without these two options) the Crown Vic performs. Rear wheel drive is a strength and a weakness. I like the handling with rear wheel drive, but not in the snow. The one area I would update is the interior. It has been the same for at least the last 10 years. Try this car equipped as I recommend, my bet is you'll be surprised.

Strength:

Good engine, transmission, performance has been dependable and powerful with the drive-train.

Weakness:

We are very disappointed with the quality of the interior plastic stuff: the a/c vents fell apart, Ford wants $100.00 apiece to replace them. Virtually everything plastic (door handle gaurds, a/c vents, etc.,seatbelt covers) has fallen apart, makes the car look like junk. The hood liner fell. I have had to repair the electric window motors 6 times! Each time is costs $275.00, and has always been rejected for warranty coverage. I'm so sick of it, now I have passenger window taped in the up position. Hood blew open on the highway at 65 mph, crashed the windshield, lucky my wife wasn't killed. I found a product recall on the internet on Ford Crown Victoria hood latches, but Ford claimed it applied only to "police vehicles". I asked my insurance co. to sue, they preferred to pay the repair costs. We have tried to speak with the dealer who sold us this car, and to the Ford representative, they blew us off.
I am so disappointed with the quality and dependability, I'm dumping it, and buying a Honda minivan. I'll never buy Ford again!!!

Good drive train, engine, etc. Disappointed with poor quality interior stuff, and especially Ford denying responsiblity, etc. Resale now at 7 years out is terrible! I'm considering it "disposable", like a Bic pen or something.....

I bought a Toyota 4-Runner 4 years before this Crown Vic, and it's never had anywhere near the problems with stuff falling apart. Also, dealer is much more responsive to problems.

Strength:

It is a great car to drive, with a ton of room.

Weakness:

Fairly poor gas mileage. 17.6 or something if that means anything to anyone.

This is a great car. If you are racing people, they will most definetely gain respect for the big 5.0. I believe that it has the performance to outrun other 5.0 cars such as the Caprice, Monte Carlo, and possibly some 2.3 Litre Mustangs, or even smaller engine Camero's.

Other 5.0 cars, with either a 302 Ford engine, or a 305 Chevy engine. It compares well to these in terms of performance.

Weakness:

* lack of 'handy storage'
* weakest 4.6L in the Ford line

Reasonable handling and acceleration, quiet ride, reliability, top rated safety and very low price. Cops drive them for a reason!

Model Reviewed: LTD Crown Vic

Strength:

Durability and reliability.

Weakness:

Base model: #1. Inadequate guages: no tach, no temp guage (only a simple "Engine" light. #2. Poor front doors: corrosion of window motors & door actuators, no front manual override locks.

I bought the car with 147,000 miles on it. It now has almost 162,000 on it. At about 150,000 I had to have the transmission rebuilt. It still needs work: new steering and suspension components. I have the base model. My car has totally inadequate guages: no tachometer, no temperature guage. All the dashboard has is a simple Engine light. Poor front door design: the window motors and door actuators rusted out due to water collecting in the front doors. A new window motor is about $75. A new door actuator is about $100. If the front doors had manual locks (the rear doors do), I would not bother replacing the actuators. I have easily invested a few thousand dollars so far.

Strength:

5.0 (Nothing compares!)
Size (Built like a tank!)
Durability ( breaks loose with engine problems!)

Weakness:

Gas mileage is a little on the crappy side, paint oxidates prematurely, and it's a little cramped in the engine bay!

Car is excellent! Breaks loose even with engine problems, interior is huge, and the 5.0 rocks! Plan to rebuild and tweak the engine this September and maybe just drag race some 5.0 Mustangs or even a few Hemi Cudas if I get the chance!! Dual exhaust, Rims, these are some of the things that are planned out as far as modifications! This car is basically a family sports car! The power of a Mustang along with the space of a van! Basically a well-rounded car good for a teenager needing space but wanting a fun-ride!

Similar Products Used:

Chevy Caprice, and the new Ford Crown Vics. None of the new ones are made as good, especially since they dropped the 5.0 for the ill-fated 4.6L.
