7 years old, and no MAJOR component has given me problems. Still runs, just took it on an 800 mile trip to Canada this week. Ran fine.

Fuel cap sticks Heater seems to run when not on Car shakes when idle ABS brakes run spontaneously Run through 2 alternators in 7 years - not sure if that's good or bad. Didn't have to replace alternator in previous cars.

In the beginning, this car was great. I got it used in 1997 and it had a little over 18,000 miles on it. The first 2 years with this car were fine, no problems other than normal maintenance. The first thing to break down was alternator (had to have it replaced twice). Car was damaged in a bad hail storm, the whole exterior of the car had to be replaced. Shop had my car for a month. Next was the timing belt. Car stopped on me in the middle of the highway. Other various problems I've had are: Car shakes when in you're sitting still and in drive (i.e. sitting at a red light) Stops if you put the car in neutural(??). A/C filter needs to be replaced frequently, car overheats in the summer if you are running the air and the filter needs replacing. Spring loaded fuel cap will not open in the winter (I live in MN so it can get cold). ABS brakes vibrate and ABS light comes on for no apparent reason-Seems random. Driver's side floor heater seems to run when the heat is not turned on. My car has 117,000 miles on it right now, still works, but barely. I am looking for a new car VERY soon.

Engine, Handling, Interior Space, and over all looks

Too many recalls, not 4 wheel disc brakes, and right now my front suspention is making noises.

This car was bought in early '98 brand new. It only had 14 miles on it from people test driving the car. This car is power everything, no leather (dont like it), and i added a 6 Disc Changer to the car.

THIS IS THE FIRST CAR IVE OWNED AND I LOVE IT. I WAS KINDA SCARED TO BUY A FORD, DUE TO PREVIOUS FORD PROBLEMS (FORD ESCORT) BUT THE CAR IS REALLY NICE THE BEST THING ABOUT IT IS THE FUNKY HEADLIGHTS. TOO BAD THEY DIDNT KEEP THE CONTOUR AHEAD OF THE FOCUS.

Bad Transmission A/C blowing hot air car shakes brakes stick

I really like this car...looks great and gets great gas mileage, but there are soo many things that it has been in the shop for. The transmission blew for a reason unknown, it looked like someone took a hammer to it. The A/C didn't work basically all summer i had to take it in 3 times (hopefully 3rd time is the charm)...the car shakes sometimes when i stop and the brakes have been replaced but now they are sticking. I really love the car though...it has great pickup and it is just so cute..but i mean a lot of money goes into a car and just be ready to pay for it...especially when the car has been discontinued

Wish I could think of one, but I can't.

I own the 2.5 Litre 170HP 5 spead model. What a fun car to drive! Handles very well. Good traction on snow covered roads. I've put 42,000 miles on the car since I bought it. The water pump had to be replaced and that is it! I've never had a more reliable car.

I own a Ford Contour and I'm fifty fifity on it. It has given me problems like the headlights going out of aim and the transmission slipping but the handling and acceleration is great for a 4 cylinder

This is the first ford that I have ever owned and I must say that I like this car better then I thought I would. I have alwas hated ford trucks, but I needed a good sized car for the money and this is it. The car has had no problems yet and I have filled it up twice (I drive for a living) and this car seems really strong. For being a Ford this is a nice car.

what a piece of junk. I have spent over $2000 on repairs since buying it(after the cost of the warrenty. I had to replace the front end, the back end, the computer had to be reprogrammed, several valves had to be replaced, and now I think theres something wrong with the tranny.

I will never purchase another ford ever again in my life. We first had a 97 ford escort and now the contour and both ironically have given us the same problems. The brake system, the carpet came loose, the oxygen sensors, the transmission. We are a family of four and need a dependable car and thought buying an american made car would be the best route. We had a warranty for both vehicles and of course all the problems weren't not covered. Ford will never get another penny from us! Ditto on the hot air blowing on your legs!
