Strength:
Quick, for a non-turbo. Handles like its on rails with minimal understeer. Everything so far has been great on this car.
Weakness:
We had to replace the alternator twice...but have not had a problem since we picked out our own and had the dealership install it (instead of the stock ones) This car has 47654 Miles on it, and every mile has been fun! The back seats are there just to keep your insurance lower. Although a non-turbo, I have kept up with 5.0's in the 1/4 mile races (due to its 130mph top speed) the car is a bit slow till the DOHC hits the 3000-7000 rpm mark..then the MPH's race towards the other side of the speedo! Its best when in a "rolling start" race. The front seats are great! I could live in them! Like I mentioned before, we replaced the alternator twice..the second time we set out and picked our own, then had the dealership install it, since then we have had no problems...I havent needed to change the brakes yet either! Very fast on take-off. Handles extremely well. The body style makes the car look exciting even with out driving it. Even though my car is an automatic, pick up speed is very fast. First gear shifts at 6500 to 7000 rpms. Second Gear is the same. The car takes 180 degree turns like nothing, even at 85 to 90mph. The sound system is awesome, six speakers in all. With a cd changer. The car is just all around great with minor defects.
Weakness:
The speedometer registers 170, although the fuel shuts off at 100mph. This is a major turn-off win racing. From 0-20 the car tends to be slow, after 20, speed dramatically increases. Space is a concern, the back seat is not made for tall people. I paid $12,400.00 for my talon. Honestly, yes, I would recommend it to anybody. This car is made for people who like to drive like they stole it. It provides excitment in all areas. I love it. the car is all in all a great value, and provides extreme fun. I love the car. the only bad thing is the timing belt has to be changed often but other then that it's great. I have done many performance mods. with no problomes. Runs 14.3 in the 1/4 mile. Will kill Z28 camaro's and those weak 5.slow mustangs. If you want a turbo 4cyl that is a v8 eater I suggest buying one.
Weakness:
My only complaints are the notchy 5 speed and the timing belt. I paid 4,ooo for mine with only 60,000 miles but got a real good deal. Expect to pay about 6,000. I highly recommend this car. Similar Products Used: None |

Very Fast
Weakness:
Timing belt I bought the Eagle Talon right out of High School as a graduating present to myself. I bought it fully loaded and in cash. The car handeled great and was super fast for the size. I never even had to change the brakes on the car at and I had over 115,000 miles on them. WOW!! Although I had to have the timing belt changed 3 times. Over the five years I put over $6,000.00 of repairs into that car.Not to mention I was never treated well at that dealership. Everytime I took it in, it came back with other problems. Finally I traded it in for my brand new 328ci BMW. Now I have real car. I would never recommend buying American. German all the way!!! Buy the way I babied that car and took great care of it. What a disappointment. Similar Products Used: Acura Integra |

Strength:
Nice looking car, handles very well, very competitive price versus other front/four wheel drive sporty cars, fast (at least in turbo form), comfortable highway cruiser for 2, fairly reliable (in my experience)
Weakness:
The manual transmission was notchy with long throws when new, and has gradually gotten harder to shift as the vehicle has aged. The back seat is a joke. The timing belt is a weak point in the early models (1990 - 1994), and has to be replaced way too frequently (like every 50,000 miles) to avoid blowing the engine to smithereens if it breaks (which they tend to do prematurely) - it is also horribly expensive to replace (my last one cost me $900 CDN). All in all, this has been a good car for me. I have owned mine for over 10 years, and it is approaching the 100,000 mile mark. Aside from the weaknesses mentioned above, I don't have much to complain about. I had to replace one half-shaft at 80,000 miles because the CV boot had been ripped to shreds, but I don't think that was a weakness in the car. The original battery lasted almost 10 years, and the engine still doesn't burn or leak a drop of oil. Even the original tires (Eagle GT+4's) lasted almost 50,000 miles. I bought the car brand new, fully loaded, for the equivalent of about $12,000 US - a deal that the Japanese competition of the time couldn't come close to. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned. The car is fast. I saved up my money to buy this car myself. The car good and feels good.
Weakness:
Just a little bit cramped (I am 6 Foot) You should never buy a car under $5000. This was an extremly good value I have only spent $700 on this car and $500 was for the spoiler I put on it. It had an awesome stereo, looked alright and kept me cool in the Texas summer heat.
Weakness:
Oh boy...It had WAY too many mechanical problems. In the year that I owned this car (which I bought by myself at the age of 17 for $3,000) I replaced the tires, the brakes, an oil pan and fixed THREE oil leaks due to normal wear and tear. I also replaced the windsheild (it broke at a car wash), the the starter and the alternator, the TRANSMISSION!, the radiator and of course all sorts of minor plugs and leaks and tubes and filters, etc...Not to mention it broke down on me multiple times, over-heated twice and the battery died so many times I lost count! It only broke down when I was in the middle of nowhere for all those reasons I listed above! Finally I sold it for $1,000 LESS than what I paid for it just so I could buy a NEW vehicle! What a waste of time and money! I would definitely NOT recommend this car to ANYONE unless you are the type that enjoys walking on the highway after dark trying to find a place where someone will let you use their phone ("oops...that's long distance sweetie...try somewhere else!") or you just like to fix up cars!!! Excellent traction and handling. Not a bad 1/4 mile time, either(15.2@92.3 with just a K&N). Very fun to drive and not real expensive.
Weakness:
Doesn't quite beat a stock mustang in the 1/4 because of turbo lag. Only problem I've had is the ABS light. There is nothing wrong with the system itself, but the light doesn't turn off. I bought this car privately for $9100. It is fully loaded and it had about 90k. Similar Products Used: N/A |

Talon 2.0
Strength:
For a non-turbo, non 4wd, this car halls the mail. I have taken 5.0's in the 1/4 mile more than once. Handles like a dream. Great looking. Good gas mileage. Absolutely fun to drive.
Weakness:
Tough to get rid of ticking noise from the crankcase, bad timing belts, subpar transmission. Lots of quirky mechanical problems which cost a lot to fix and seem unending. I bought the car from a private party. I knew I would have to stick 1000 or so into it for normal wear and tear but I didn't imagine it would be this much. When I bought the car, the transmission and synchronization was fine, then all of a sudden, the cold weather wreaked havok with it and it started to shift very poorly. Other than that, I love driving the car. It is very responsive and sporty when it isn't broken down with some mechanical problem. I have replaced the exhaust system, alternator, tires, battery, blower motor, plugs, plug wires and eventually the tranny. Through all of this though, for some reason, I still love the car but I wish I had a 4wd for the snow here in Minnesota. Very good value for the money. Similar Products Used: MX-6. The Talon beats the hell out of this car. Definately more bang for the buck. Less reliable though. |

It's a great looking car. For a girl who wants a sporty, quick car, but not too much power, it's perfect. There are lots of mod options as well.
Weakness:
Timing belt needs regular repairs, back seat is super TINY I recommend this car to anyone looking for a sporty, nice-looking car but still has a budget to consider. The car is built well, holds up nicely. THe handling and traction is unbelievable. Plus there's plenty of room in the hatch for a system.Oh, and gas mileage is EXCELLENT! Not a good car for a really big guy or gal-a good, less expensive, low-key performance car. Similar Products Used: '87 mustang GT 5.0: MUCH easier handling, less spinning, smaller, more current mods |
