Strength:
Handling. Turbo power. Looks.
Weakness:
Hard seat. Turbo lag. Interesting that the Talon is rated lower that the Eclipse and Laser (they're identical in all respects). I got a good deal on my 2 generation Talon. It costs less for a Talon than for the same Mitsubishi Eclipse, probably due to Eagle going out of business. My wife drives a non-turbo 92 Eclipse and I can assure you it doesn't compare to the 2G turbo AWD. I'm 6'2" and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone taller. The seats seem a little hard. The engine is surprisingly strong for a 4 cyl. There is turbo lag but it can be dealt with by shifting and running up the motor. It handles very agilely on winding mountain roads. I have 29000 miles on mine and have experienced no mechanical problems. If you can find one, I would recommend this car to anyone looking for an inexpensive strong running sports car. Strength:
The car looks great, the A/C is cold. the car stops on a dime. The stearing is great. Faster than many cars in its price range.
Weakness:
The car is great, it is a pain to find someone who can work on it. 98% of people have no idea where to even look when you have a problem. The car is sexy, fast and fun. If you like driving for fun this car is for you. If you are in and out of it all the time, you might hit your head off it a few times because is so low. FIND SOMEONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THERE DOING WHEN THERE FIXING IT, don't try to save money when repairing this car because you will get burned. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
extremely quick - very nice interior - good looking car - good on gas if you don't redline it - very reliable mitsubishi engine
Weakness:
expensive parts , the transmission breaks easily , the turbo can be an expensive problem if not taken care of. i would recommend this car to anyone that likes fixing cars or customizing them because you have many options , it just depends on how fat your wallet is. this car has a lot of power and is fun to play with. it is really funny seeing the faces of mustang owners if you beat them off the line because they are not expecting a four banger to beat them. This car has great potential to be one of the best all around sports car on the road. Another great advantage is if you like the eclipse the talon is mechanicly the same but cost 1 to 2 thousand less to purchase. The car has a fair amount of power stock but the real fun is when you begin to modify it. If willing to invest about two grand in parts and do the work yourself you can put the car well into the 13 sec 1/4 mile times. One of its best features is the awd system, unbelievable grip, even predictable at the limit thanks to the limited slip diff in back.
Weakness:
The motor, its a great motor with alot of little troubles. Check out dsm.org if interested in buying one. The motors make some strange noises when at idle (lifter tap, piston tap from carbon deposites). The largest down fall is the turbo, sure it makes power but chances are the turbo has not been properly taken care of and will end up needing to be replaced. the other down fall of the turbo is it's too small, the engine won't pull hard to redline like a larger turbo does. And finally, if you want a car to travel or commute in this is not it, very poor gas millage, but who cares, it's fun to drive. I would recommend this car to the people looking for a fun car to modify and want all out performance. With the proper parts and knowledge these cars are amazing. For the average joe i would probable say buy a honda, they are a better car for non-performance driving, unless its a real Type R (not just the fake badges), S2000 or NSX. Fast, AWD system really makes the car stick to the road. Comfortable, extreme upgrade capability. Best bang for the buck car.
Weakness:
5-speed tranny is notchy, long shifter throw. just change the fluid to BG synchroshift-Huge improvement. Timing belt repair is expensive. I would highly reccomend this car for the performance enthusist. Lots of fun to drive. Dont get this car if you are not into cars. This car has both power and poise. (I always found it amusing seeing mustangs sliding around in the rain, wherein i could drive calmly in snow)
Weakness:
reliability problems; (some) turbo lag; indiscriminate rattles There is nothing more exhilarating than doing 70 mph in a snow storm with a low riding car such as this- I'm sure it wouldn't be as interesting in a high-riding SUV. This was done on my way back from Hunter Mountain 2 am during a blizzard, may I add. This car was steady as a rock (in this situation)despite its inherent shortcomings. Similar Products Used: n/a |

damn 5 speed, it is kinda notchy when your changing gears,it doesn't like doing burnouts!!! i would recomend this car to anybody who likes redline racers. not very torky but you'll love the turbo!!! it hooks and goes. they are pretty cheap cars now days the prices have depreciated so much.. all in all a damn good car!! Quick and fun. Good gas mileage when driven nice.
Weakness:
Hubcaps, bad breaks, cops don't like it. It lacks torque, but makes up for it after 5500 rpm. It has taken me past 130(%ph) without to much trouble. At this speed it seems to want to take off like a plane. Don't get a Talon for your kids first car(like myself!). Similar Products Used: None |

It has nice pickup, handles like a beast, and has a solid feel to it. The paint still looks nice too
Weakness:
this car is a joke. Everytime i drove it, a random part would fall off, i think its part of its construction. I drove around with no 4th gear for a long time, and it was almost impossible to get it to reverse. So yeah, the transmission sux. My spoiler is falling off (its a piece of plastic) This car had some aftermarket stuff on it (air filter, loud exhaust, tint) on it when i got it, so it was decent for a while, until it fell apart Similar Products Used: None |

Talon Tsi AWD Turbo
Strength:
The 92's with the big rod 4G63 engine, All-wheel-drive, and turbo are terrific. Timeless styling. People still think I have a new car.
Weakness:
Small trunk due to rear diff; stock brakes need to be upgraded to the 93/94's size (new rotors&calipers) for the heavy AWD version. The knock sensors get a little flakey after 5-6 years. The ECU capacators need to be replaced on all cars before they fail (about 5 years or so.) The transfer case has a leaky bushing that is covered under a recall. These are fantastic cars for the money; great bang for the buck! I've actually purchased two 92's (and auto and a 5 speed.) The engines age gracefully, they do well with 100% synthetic oil (Redline, Mobil 1, etc.) I have over 100k on one and 70k on the other. They can produce triple the stock power if one were to install a low restriction intake, big 16G Mitsubishi turbo, and exhaust. The best aspect to owning one of these AWD turbo's is the great support of fellow owners in the non-profit club (see http://dsm.org). I'm prone to spirited driving and these cars hold up well. Maintanence is nothing unusual, but the timing belts do need to be changed every 60k miles or less (for safety.) Only unexpected repairs I've had are alternator replacement, and a new thermostat. The auto trans shifts wonderfully. The 5 speed is cranky when cold but warms up fast. I love these cars. Similar Products Used: As good or better than any sports car I've driven under $42,000 |
