Strength:

AWD,Power, looks, upgraded six speaker factory stereo, gas comsumption is good for AWD turbo. I get 550-600 km per 60 liter tank. With proper maintenance: reliable. My car was stolen and the snot driven out of it but it recovered well.

Weakness:

Replacing timing belt a multitude of times as regular maintenance. Car is not bullet proof, must be proactive in maintenance schedule. 2nd gear grinds when first starting in cold weather. AC needs constant recharging. Dealer service (Chrysler) not 5 star everywhere you go.

I have owned this vehicle for over 10 years and put 217 000 km on it. I commute 200 km 2-3 times a week for the last 3 years and this car has let me down only once (dead alternater). I purchased this car when I was 22 and now being 32 it no longer fits my lifestyle. I still enjoy driving it everyday but I am getting to old to crumple into the front seat. I still want to get 300 000km out of her. I love the AWD and it has saved me more then once in the winters I have to deal with. Next car: Subaru Outback. I can't give-up the AWD!! If you find a used Talon with good maintenance records you will be O.K.

Strength:

Sporty look, great gas mileage, well built car!

Weakness:

Inside rattles, hard to keep front end aligned, no leg room in back seat.

Bought this car with 30,000 miles on it in '95....it's now up to 179,000 and the only thing that has went out was the timing belt. This has been the best and most reliable car I have ever owned........but it's time to move on!

Strength:

Bought this car new in '95. Got the 5-speed. Looks great and can take on almost any other car from a stop. Handles great in nasty weather! Has lots of space with the rear seats folded down, especially considering how small a car it is. Great car to travel in for 1-2 people with luggage. Didn't cost much more than other non-sporty cars at the time.

Weakness:

Noises. Has lots of loud rattles, squeaks, and ticks, but dealer keeps saying nothing is wrong. Goes through rear struts yearly (sometimes twice yearly). Engine shudders hard when pulling away from a stop in the rain. Radio died after three years. Factory replacement radio died two years later. Requires premium gas (for the turbo), and lots of it. Not much head room with the sunroof (I'm 6 foot and my head touches the roof), but lots of leg room with the seat back (which makes the rear seat unuseable - but I didn't get it to tote around other people). Hit a hard bump and it throws the alignment out and wears down the tires in no time. The alignment shop has told me a couple of times how badly out of alignment it was. Rims are aluminum and dent too easily.

Has 65K miles now and no major problems so far, and I drive it pretty hard. Gets about 22 MPG, so I can't really complain. Lots of minor headaches (radio, rattles, struts, etc.). I'm getting tired of climbing in and out, and I hear there are timing belt and clutch problems, so I think it's time to move on. Loved this car for the 6+ years I had it! If I had it to do again, I would....I just would have gotten the full 5 year extended warranty with it.

Strength:

Torque, the feeling of punching it at 35 and just watchin the needle, feeling the turbo push you back into your seat :) Lotsa available options, well rounded car, if ya want some fun for your bucks, this is the car for you, handling is great...especially wioth some good tires, torque is awesome, good gas mileage, nice look, good room for driver/passenger, pretty easy to work on, parts are somewhat easy 2 find as it is the twin of the Eclipse GSX, Laser RST...all around good car :)

Weakness:

Timing Belt, as has everyone said, i have also noticed the drivers window comes off track easliy, easy to fix tho, back seat is a problem, then again it IS a sports car, and is built for 1/2 ppl

The only car I would take over my talon that is somewhat in the same class would be the bigger brother, a Dodge Stealth R/T, or a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4, the big brother to the Eclipse GSX, then again if you buy a talon and spend the extra money you would spend on the stealth, you could pour into the talon and get the same effect!! All around kewl car, definately providing a good Fun:Cost Ratio, as long as you take care of it, it won't break...

technically, the Eclipse GSX, Laser RST (is it?) but i blows 5.0 Mustangs outta the water, older porsche 944's, and with a few minor things (intake, stuff like that) most v8's

This car have a beautifull look, i think that is the more beautifull that i never have. The redzone is so cool !! When you go at 80 mph, you just have to turn the steering to shut off a 180° turn... so is the best machine !

Weakness:

The repair is very expensive, the timing belt is expensive too. (179$ can.)
But is just a detail.

This car meet a civic si, but i have this experience this week, my friends have a civic si and we have going to do a drag race, and i meet it at the starting race !!! :P

Weakness:

i bought it for 8000, i had to take to the shop 3 times in the first month and this is the second month i have owned it, and i just threw in about 4000 dollars into cause umm yeah the tranny went on it... i should have bought a fqing bmw, cause i have a total of 15000 dollars into a 8000 dollar car that i have had for less then 2 months... to me that = horrible car

well enough said... i had to have it towed 3 times within the first 30 days i had, thats like towing it and taking it in to a shop every week...

Strength:

Speed, the overall look and appeal of the car, how it is low to the ground and body style

Weakness:

timing belt probs, I wasnt fully aware of them, other then that its been ok so far...

Well recently, my one timing belt went out and due to my engine 2.0 16 valve DOHC, I will probably have to replace it due to the valves and everything being messed up due to the timing belt. I have only had this car for about a month and the best advice I could would be check engine history of the car, how it was ran and repairs so you dont end up have to practically replace everything when you get it. If you treat it well and are not a agressive clutch driver, Im sure the car will last you..
this car is a great car but like as any other car, had its flaws as well...

Model Reviewed: Eagle Talon ESI - non turbo

Strength:

Looks great, tight handling, good interior features & styling, back seats fold down & create lots of storage in the hatchback area, great factory cd/cassette stereo system, and has a lot of get up & go for a 4 cyl, good gas mileage, & lots of value for little cash.

Weakness:

lots of little things go wrong - I've replaced cruise & rear defoster controls (didn't always work the first time I pushed them), driver's side power mirror (quit working), door locks (kept screwing up), paint faded within two years & had to have it re-painted (color-lime green), now the head gasket is leaking & water pump gauge is leaking (told they are defective - but no recall), and major oil leak w/ only 70k miles. Also, the back seat are unusable for an adults (lack of foot & head room). It's mostly just storage space. I've also noticed that there is a terrible blind spot just behind the back seat window. And if you have a 5-speed, when in 1st & 3rd gears, it's hard to see the clock/stereo readout, plus noticed if the tilt is all the way down, it's hard to see the speedometer. Unfortunately, it's not the most well put-together call!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased this car new and have taken excellent care of it. During warranty I took it into the shop alot. I couldn't believe I bought it new & had to replace so many little things so quickly & have it repainted. I'm also shocked that with only 70k miles, that I have some major maintenance with an oil leak, and water pump gauge leak. I'm disappointed that the car hasn't held up better with the amount of care taken. However, I can say that it's a very fun car to drive & own and I have enjoyed it. I believe it's a wonderful, inexpensive sports car, so if you can deal with a some gliches & maintenance issues, it's worth the small price tag!

Strength:

It gets up and goes, the parts last foever. When I bought it, it had 165,000 miles on it and a lot of the parts were the orginals. It is good on gas and good in the snow.

Weakness:

The transmission but, it went out at 165,000 so I think that's not really a weakness. The parts are hard to find and when you do you pay a pretty penny.

This car can really go if you know how to handle it. It is really good in the snow and mud. I gets you where you need to go and I don't think you could ask for a better car. You just have to make sure you keep the car maintained or it will turn out to br a nightmare. The only things I've hadto replace or the belts and the trasmission but, that happens with all car with a lot of miles.

Strength:

Nice body trim, Pick up and go from the engine... Fun to drive and handles great!

Weakness:

Actually doing repairs on this car are a little time consuming, but not that bad... A tad pricey..

I really have enjoyed this car and the way it moves/looks. The other night some guy tried to race me (right after I had put on the 16G turbo too)... I simply ran next to him for a few seconds (on purpose) then waved and nailed the gas. 2 seconds later he was 100 feet behind me wondering what had happened. Fun! I bought this car at 76k miles and the only problems so far have been the clutch (no suprise) and the turbo threw a bearing (hence the 16G)....

Similar Products Used:

This car can handle as well as a Porsche 911 Carrera if you treat it well and get used to turning at high speed. Make sure you have nice tires on this bad boy cause it will move faster than anyone's Ricemobile...
