Talon TSI AWD
Strength:
Outstanding performance offline, braking, and turning. Limited slip diff and AWD make it difficult to beat.
Weakness:
The harmonic balancer disintegrated into component parts.....$185 Cdn for a new one. Requires religious maintenance or you'll be praying for release. My 85 Nissan finally gave up on me, it was my daily commuter. Found the Talon AWD for sale in trader.ca for an extremely low price ($7900Cdn) with 122000km on the dial. One test drive was all it took. Replaced the timing belt, balance shaft belt, A/C and alternator/Waterpump belts immediately on purchase (122,000km) to avoid hand grenading the engine...much thanks to the folks at dsm.org. A rocket off the line and in turns....straight line punch at 30kph is insane. It's a supercar on a Kia budget. Similar Products Used: no comparison to my old 71 Mach 1 Mustang 130Mph and white knuckles, 85 200SX turbo 120Mph but snaky ride on wet roads....140Mph stock in the Talon with superb handling on Eagle GT's. |

Strength:
Sporty look with dark window tints, semi-fast engine(it can keep up), brakes are pretty good, and the handling is good even though i have crappy tires(and no power steering)
Weakness:
Small backseat, oil leak, couldn't get it started today(my idler screw was tampered with, I detect foul play...)not a tsi, no awd, no power steering or power anything for that matter, not even a rear defogger or wiper, but it just enchances "The Talon" even in listing weaknesses i feel the Talon is the best car ever made. Semi-fast, good handling, nice to look at, but no power features. Once i put a cold air intake on, and possibly an exhaust it will soar. Its 5 spd and it pretty quick off the start. U can't touch "The Talon", my car is not considered by a name of human devine, but a name true to its own form...the name is "The Talon" and thats the name its reformed points of topics and other fickle matters. Similar Products Used: Well the eclipse and laser are clones but neither of them can compare, the engines are better on the talons, but the lasers have cup holders(i stole my friends :() |

Strength:
Hole Shots like no other, love the whistle of the turbo, having a 5 spd helps lots for racing. Funny that a 2 litre 4 banger can toast so many 8 cylinders.
Weakness:
Parts very expensive (especially electronics). Timing belt go often. (getting mine replaced within the next week) Can eat up a lot of gas when on it! Bought my ride around Halloween and drove it through the winter. Love the AWD. The first time that turbo spooled it put me into the back of the seat and I knew I made a good puchase. Had to replace the TPS though. Cost me 100 bucks for the stupid little sensor. But once I put it on it ran great. Now I get to replace the timing belt and hopefully get it running to full potential again. Little mods go a long way with these cars. I've seen lightly modded talons smoke brand new SS Camaros and WS6 Trans Am's. Sounds good don't it!! Aside from the maitenance and part prices I think it is one of the best cars you can own! Strength:
fun to drive, looks great. quick car. i really enjoyed the cockpit. the infinity cd/tape sounds great. i bought the car with 30k miles and had no major problems until around 70k (front end suspension/ball joints)
Weakness:
aluminum rims dent easy. fog lights are too expensive to replace (mine cracked from a rock). clutch broke in around 45k. the door glass rattles in both sides when window is down. the driver door glass has loosened and creates difficulty when closing the door. had to replace plug wires because oil had gotten on them and deteriorated the rubber and caused firing problems. all parts for this car are too expensive. you have to replace the timing belt at 60k or you'll have a ton of problems. front end suspension started having problems at 70k - had to check on the ball joints recall. ABS light stuck on - bad sensor in rear wheel. overall i loved this car. but if i had to do it again i wouldn't have purchased it because any service on the car is expensive and difficult. parts are more expensive being an Eagle. Strength:
Very dependable. Good handling for a low-range sports car, especially with good quality tires. T bought the car with 54,000 miles and it now has 150,000 miles and in my opinion, it runs as good today as when I bought it over 3 years ago.
Weakness:
This car has a propensity to develop regular oil leaks which see to appear approximately every 40K miles. The solution is new gaskets and seals, and when that is done, go ahead and replace the timing belt at the same time. The 1994 Eagle Talon DL is a car I would recommend to anyone looking for a sporty, reliable car with a low price tag. Similar Products Used: NONE |
