Strength:

Tranny that is built by the germans is a damn strong tranny for the abuse it takes, along with the engine.

Weakness:

Engine is starting to get wore out. I currently have a problem which I can''t seem to find. NEVER TAKE A CAR TO THE DEALER OR MECHANIC TO GET FIXED. THEY WILL MAKE IT WORSE THAN IT ALREADY IS. THEY ALSO TELL YOU THE WRONG THING THAT IS WRONG WITH IT.

I love the car even though I am looking for a manual due to the enourmous off of the line speed. I have had quite a few problems though, such as new axles, new brakes, timing belt slipped, and i did a port and polish job to it all myself, and they say a 18 year old (17 at the time) can''t do anything but destroy stuff.

Strength:

Powerful, fast, light and good on gas, great controll, comfortable, a lot of mods out there

Weakness:

bad wiper blade arms, little space on the back seat

I own a 91 Eagle Talon dual exhaust, k&n air filter, non-turbo. This is by far one of the greatest cars ive ever driven, It handles amaizingly at high speeds, and it gets at high speeds very fast(accelerates faster after 3000rpms). You can really tell the difference on gas and on power with added weight. I love this car so bad i want to purchase a turbo talon, because i keep wondering how much better it will be.

Model Reviewed: talon tsi awd

Strength:

superb handling, great acceleration, easy to modify, very sharp looking

Weakness:

something is always wrong (usually minor), shaky transmittion

First of, i love the body styly of the Talon, I had a Talon DL, which was pretty bad slow. I just upgraded to a 96 Talon TSI AWD and feel even harder in love with the DSM line. The power in the TSI is amazing to begin with, and after a few bolt-ons you will be seeing plenty of embarrassed mustangs and camaros in your rear-view. With the AWD, the Talon hugs the turns and can outperform most any car on a winding road. My new baby is packed with all the goods (leather, sliding moonroof, and a lot more) and guys let me tell you, GIRLS LOVE THIS CAR!!!!

Strength:

Best handling all season!! Awesome look(mine)(red with tint window, tint light and gold wheels)Great interior, great sound when rev at high speed!!

Weakness:

Problem with the turbo since i had the car(when i buy the car, it was the first time i try a talon, after the sold, i try another WOW!!! Whats a difference!!!!I regrets to sold mine!! The performance are just excellent but thats the problem, the turbo (need more of attention)

It was a beautiful car, Handling is awesome for the weight, but my talon had some problem with the turbo, mustang beat me every time. Now i have a 98 civic si(canadian model 127 hp) and i dont like it!! it have no power
I think i was stupid to sale my talon because it cost me 18000$ canadian to buy my civic and i could have a brand new talons turbo engine for 6500$ can.
11500$can of difference!!! and so many power of difference!!!
I think the talon is the best small sports car!!
My friend have one and climb it to 240km/h(150mph)stock
there is no many car of its category able to do this.

Model Reviewed: Laser RST

Strength:

Fast and reliable, it has an excellent interior layout with large, easy to use climate and stereo controls. Excellent steering control and feedback which has saved my bacon on a couple of occasions. Unlike the early Probes, the styling is still very appealing even today. Parts are relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain if you need them. After 210,000 km, I'm still on my first clutch.

Weakness:

The transmission has been something of a disappointment; the clutch is heavy and the shifter notchy. Getting into second gear is often a struggle.
The windshield has been replaced no less than six times. I don't know why, but they keep cracking. This problem is not endemic to any particular installer, I have had it replaced all over the country.
Performance deterioration: since it was purchased in 1989, performance has slowly diminished. I have discussed this with several dealerships and independant shops and have checked web sites shops to no avail. The problem is likely due to the turbo, sticking waste-gate or linkages or vaccuum leaks, nobody seems to know.
The suspension is a little soft for the calibre of engine. Lateral acceleration was rated at a little over .83G when new, acceptable if not stellar.
The engine compartment is tight, which is not a problem unless you need something done, like the ring job I'm avoiding.

For twelve years I have thoroughly enjoyed this car. Straight line performance has been excellent and handling above average. Reliablility has also been remarkable with only one major problem early on, which turned out to be a warped head. When I bought it new in Aug '89 it was the first one in western Canada. Back then, it turned a lot of heads and generated a lot of positive comments. These are good things after committing the big bucks. Compared to its contemporaries, I wouldn't have bought any differently. If you can get over the transmission, I would highly recommend a Laser to someone who is looking to buy a used performance car and not pay the prices Integra owners still feel their car is worth. For someone wanting to buy new, I would consider the alternatives, however, the Talon is still a strong contender.

Similar Products Used:

At the time, if you wanted the kind of performance that the Laser/Talon/Eclipse offered, the only alternative would have been the Mustang, Probe/MX6, Acura Integra, or Nissan 240. Considering styling, performance, and price, I made the right choice. My two previous cars were Firebirds - never again, they were heavy, pokey, handled poorly, and were fraught with problems.

Strength:

Fast, very fast, handling, cockpit-ish interior and overall style

Weakness:

My biggest complaint is the lifter tick. My car has 80K on it and the lifters tick like nobody's business. Within first month, replaced valve cover, vavle cover gasket, plugs, wires, alternator, spark plug gaskets and motor mounts. But once again, i can't stand the lifter tick, it goes away when car is warm, but mysteriously comes back after driving for a little bit. That problem = expensive to fix.

Very nice car. Looks fast stock, very streamlined. Has sort of a factory ground effects kit, already looks lowered. Car handles great, accelerates quickly and keeps going untill you want it to stop. Very Cheap and easy to make even faster.

Strength:

Handles corners and off ramps well. Has great speed when running properly.
The car looks great has a small back seat but who buys this car for the back seats. I still think it looks good even after 7 years and believe me I usually bore of a cars looks after 3 years.

Weakness:

Timing Belt problems. Very expensive to fix.

When I bought the car brand new I was told to change the timing belt every 80,000 km. Believe me this is not the case. The car has had 4 timing belt problems since I bought it. All have cost me 1500.00 to repair and this is only the parts. The first timing belt went after the warranttee was up. After this was fixed we have replace two more which went before 50,000 km. The most recent we are now just looking into and has only been 8 months and we are broken down again. He is a good car between engine overalls. When researched the problem I was having all the Jeep Eagle mechanics told me that this is a design flaw. This car is a very sharp looking vehicle and if it did not have the timing belt problems I would certainly recommend it to anyone, but unfortuneatly most people cannot afford to fix the expensive problems this car has.

I have driven a camaro, tempest, skyhawk. The only car that I would purchasee again out of the last four (this including the Eagle Talon) would be a camaro. Ran great no problems. I would drive a General Motors car again anytime. The tempest and the Skyhawk just bought for room when my sons were younger.
