Strength:

roomy, smooth ride

Weakness:

parts too confined in engine....megabucks to have it serviced cuz the labor is extensive....who would make a car with such hard to reach parts...and the parts are never...available

Nice riding car, and roomy....however...rebuilt trans, oil leaks, numerous tie rods, timing belt cover replaced at a mear $800. And now...the power steering is gone and noone can figure out how to fix it after replacing power steering pump and hose..still no power steering....not a good thing

Strength:

Nice breaking, Reliable, smooth ride, adequate suspension, nice body and design.

Weakness:

original head gasket tends to go around 50,000 miles, But replaced with a new and Improved one that should last a long time. I wish there were a little more plastic on the body.

I bought this car cause I was looking for a cheap mid sized vehicle. What I got surpassed my expectations and has been above and beyond reliablity. I mantain my cars very well. First off I only had one problem, A common problem in a stratus is the head gasket, that needed to be replaced with the new and improved head gasket at 45,000 miles. Because I have done my regular maintnace such as oil changes, raditor flushes, transmission oil changes, tune-up, and etc.. as the manufacture suggests I have had absolutly no other problems. 5 years and only $650 spent in repairs (not counting normal maintance) is very good. I have enjoyed this car very much and Now just bought a 2002 Dodge stratus. When reading some of the reviews please keep in mind some of these reviews are bad for instance one guy says his head gasket went and refused to fix it because of the cost and wonders why his Stratus is junk. This car is extremely reliable if maintained as suggested by the manufacture.

Strength:

Comfort, reliability, excellent looks and superior performance. No problems, no hassle with the dealer.

Weakness:

Throttle housing needs to be cleaned rather regularly. Maybe give it a teflon coating to avoid buildup in the housing.

Firstly I would like to make it known that I owned a 1997 Plymouth Breeze, a car which I was very very pleased with. Unfortunately I had problems with the computer and had to trade it for a 1999 Dodge Caravan (well not really unfortunately as I love my van). Realizing we needed a second vehicle, we purchased a used Dodge Stratus and with it being the same colour and roughly the same shape as the Breeze we were sentimentally pleased right off the bat. Since we got the Stratus we have been so impressed with all the improvements and the great performance of the car. We just love it!!!!! Of course with me being somewhat of a techie I was extremely impressed with all the improvements and it's beautiful appearance. Daimler, a job well done. We are now a completely converted family from Ford to Chrysler. We will never turn back! I love my Caravan and my wife simply loves her Stratus! Keep it up guys. They are both reliable peformers and crowd pleasers where ever I go.

Strength:

Good gas mileage, performed well for a 4 cylinder, easy handling.

Weakness:

Was involved in a recent accident. frontend collison. Air bags didn't deploy and seatbelts didn't lock. Son had head a face injuries, when his head went through windshield.

Purchased automobile to drive to work wanting a auto that gives better gas mileage. Was surprized by the 4 cylinder performance. Low to mid 30's on gas mileage. Overall car performed better than expected.

Strength:

Ride and handling are great. Mileage and power aren't to shabby either. Overall for the money spent I'm impressed.

Weakness:

Ash trays.

Even though I've only had this car a short while I'm impressed by the way it rides, drives and handles. The mileage and the creature comforts aren't to shabby either. It could use ash trays though. I have a friend that has a 97 and loves his also. After reading some of these reviews it seems as if about half of the problems out there are operator caused. Some of these people actually think some of these problems only happen on a Dodge Stratus. There isn't a manufacturer out there that isn't wrestling with head gasket problems. Well good luck in getting a new car without problems. Some of these people can't even spell properly it is hard to imagine them operating a motor vehicle.

Strength:

gas mileage, roomy interior, roomy trunk, good pickup, easy maintenance, easy to drive.

Weakness:

not much room on engine compartment to work with.

Best car I ever had. Always there whenever I need her. I havent't replaced anything on the car, I replace the brakes every 1.5 years. People who say it's a bad car don't know what they saying. They need to learn how to be a good driver and care taker of a car. Brakes don't need to be change every 6 months, only if you buy a very cheap one and you use your break too much because you don't know how to drive. It drives great winter, of course it depends totally on the driver himself. I have no problem whatsoever on my car. It's definitely a great car to own.

great car. i drive it school every day never gave me any problem but minor. has almost 130000 and still running. i don't know what's the deal with this people giving bad review. I know dodge had problem with head gasket but they replace it with a better and improve one. In order for your car to last you need take care of it. no car will last you if you don't do regular check up. you like import go buy import. just like every car they also have there problem.

Strength:

roomy Good Power when running properly(very seldom !)

Weakness:

count on a major problem with a cost of $1000.00 or more every 4-6 months Count on being without this car for a few days or more every 4-6 months Count on replacing the brakes shoes and pads every six months to a year count on replacing the rotors every year and six months count on getting old faster, and needing some type of stress relief ! ! !

Worst Car I ever bought, 4 months after purchase the head gasket went. 6mo. to 1 year(5000-10,000mi.) after purchase a constant ding from the door ajar alarm, had it repaired 13 times now and it comes back within a few days after repair and costs about $90.00. Finally I have given up and I will deal with the embarassment and annoyance. Between the second and third year (10,000-25,000mi), Tie rods, ABS master cylinder, controll arm and ball joints, and the head gasket (again). Between the forth year and now (25,000-64,000mi) I had to replace the alternator, Transmission, Tie Rods(twice), Shifter & Ignition/Park Interlock Cable, and the Engine Oil Galley Plugs. Keep in mind most parts for this car cost 25%-50% more than the average car and most can only be bought through a dealer so add another 10% or more for parts from the dealer.

CAUTION: EVERYTHING is it's weakness, DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!

I hate this car, I will never own one again. The car has been nothing but trouble since hitting 60000 miles. I had a car in high school that had over a 100000 miles on it and it ran better than this piece of crap. First I was told that my head gasket was leaking...only after having it for less than a year (I didn't fix it because it cost to much money). Next the check engine light was coming on so took it to the dealership. They ran a diagnostic and found that the overflow value was clogged. Then my car started to die (unexpectedly while on the highway). This time it was the spark plugs (so they were replaced). After this my car still kept dying and wouldn't go for more than a mile before dying again (also occured on the highway). This time it was the fuel filter, so I had it replaced. Still NO fix....it has started making a knocking noise and started to die again...this time it was the transmission. Two days after having the transmission re-done it died again. It is in the shop and they do not know what the problem is. The car only has 67500 miles on it (most of which are highway miles). I refuse to invest any more money in this car!! I will NEVER own another Dodge.
