EVERYTHING ELSE! One year later we have replaced the brakes twice ($860 each time)The transmission has been replaced ($3400) The battery was spitting fluid ($160) and now the brakes need work again. For all the repair work we have done we could have bought a used car that I'm sure would not have given us nearly as many promlems. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!! I have had this lemon for just over a year and it has been nothing but problems since the dealer conned us into buying it. We were going to get a 98 model but the "credit company" didn't want to approve us for that one, we had to go with something more expensive for them to agree to approveing us. That was the first I had ever heard of that. Every time I take to the shop they tell me that Dodge Stratus is natorious for whatever problems we have at that time. See weaknesses below. nice room inside, stylish, good highway gas mileage
Weakness:
things I mentioned above. I actually have a 1998 Stratus and the 2001 model. I bought the 2001 model because I liked the '98 so well. Have had one major problem witht he '98 and that is replacing the fuel pump because the car would just stop while driving. Now the '01 has been a nightmare, bust wheel bearing, driver side window off track, heater fan only works at 4, brakes have been replaced 3 times too many. I agree with another writer that Dodge should do some recalling on this model. Similar Products Used: 1998 Dodge stratus |

it's crap Well, this is car is a living night mare. At 17 this is a car I thought was so great. I've drove this car for like a month, it's been two months now and we still can't get the car to start. We have put a new head on, new gaskets, new fule pump, new anti-freeze seal, new spark plugs and wires. Not to mention the milage thing turns on and off and the radio does not work, we put new tire wheel bearing things, new tires, new belts including new timing belt. Sometimes I will be driving and the car will just shut off out of no where, not safe when you going like 55mph. DON'T buy this car...once this car is fixed it's gone |

Starting with the positives. The car has great handling and really sticks to the road. The interior is very spacious and the controls are easily accessed. The ride is good, but not exceptional. The stereo souds good too.
Weakness:
Now to the negative things. Thus far, I have had to fix the cruise control and have the AC system completely replaced at 35K. Luckily, both were under warranty! There is noticeable road noise at highway speeds. The vehicle has a dome light, but no easy way to turn it on while driving. Two other major downfalls are that it has poor acceleration from a dead stop, but highway passing acceleration is acceptable and the AC system is REALLY sub par. Not only is it unreliable, but it just doesn't work well. It's slow to come on and slow to blow cool air. Which is a very big downfall here in Arizona! My suggestion ... if you are going to purchase this vehicle and keep it longer than the factory warranty, then purchase an extended warranty! A helpful hint most people don't know about is that you can purchase extended warranties after you purchase your vehicle AND you don't have to purchase them from your dealer. There are many independent warranty companies advertised on the net that can help! Ok, let me cut to the chase. I am an outside sales rep and I drive about 150 to 250 PER DAY. As you can see I am in my car alot! This is what I have experienced. It handles well, its very dependable, its a quiet ride. Last but least it is very driver friendly.
Weakness:
in 2000 or 2001, I had the alternator replaced and the belts. Thank goodness I purchased the extended warranty. Other major work, was the tie rods and rebuilt rotors, which wasn't under warranty, totalling about 898.00. A 2-payment plan option that i had to use to pay because it was very necessary. Experiencing electrical problems, no brake lights and I hope nothing major is wrong with it Pep boys and Midas checked and suggest dealer. schafer & strominger can get me in for repairs in a week. what a life. oh well! Help me! I fell in love with this car when I first saw it. It had me captivated. I thought it was stylish, roomy, and very affordable. I bought January 1999, at a year old. |

Good power from the magnum V6..... 2002 ES model has numerous features that make the car seem more expensive than it really is. *Oh and 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain coverage
Weakness:
None Since im short on time, Im gonna try to make this as quick as possible..... Heres a list of what I think makes the Stratus ES an awesome deal. * Great handleing * Good power and acceleration * Nice dash with easy controls(Even though the wood is Fake) * 6 speaker sound is better than most other mid-size cars (Ford..LOL) * Premium Cloth seats are a big step up from the standard set * Large interior space and back seat * Quiet with hardly any road noise (except a little form the stock tires) * Good exterior with Nice Chrome rims and exhaust tip.....(Unlike the 2004's with no exhaust tip and plastic wheels) * Looks best in black Not to mention so much more.... My stratus is probably one of the coolest 4-doors I ever owned. Ive had the windows tinted and added a rear spoiler and the compliments just keep coming. To sum it up.... If your looking for a good sporty value you might wanna check out the SE or SXT but if you want luxury go with the 2002 ES. Another thing.... You may wanna look around more if your considering buying brand new (2003 or 2004). The ES model has lost some of its standard features so if you want some of the items I listed above, you may wanna go with the new R/T wich I believe comes pretty much fully loaded. Styling is great, and I like the set up of the interior
Weakness:
All of the problems mentioned above I have now owned my 2001 Stratus for a little over 2 years, and quite frankly I am disappointed with this automobile. So far I have had my multi-function switch replaced, transmission problems, a cracked wheel bearing, and replacement of my cylinders and tumblers for my ignition. Mind you, this was with only 36,000 miles registered. The warranty covererd everything, except for rental cars, which have run 250.00. I wrote to Dodge and there response was basically "sorry, that stuff happens" with no offer to do anything. I am fearful of what will happen now that my warranty is expired. |

BRAKES!!!!! I had little trouble with my car until the warranty ran out. At 36500 (if figures) my a/c broke. I have replaced by brakes twice, already. The passager window keeps getting stuck. I faithly do my maintance routine every 3000 miles. I currently have 42,000 miles on my car and I hope I do not have a head gasket problem soon. These reviews scared the hell out of me. I think Dodge needs to read these reviews and do some major recalling. |

Power, paint still looks great, smooth ride, interior is beautiful(i even have 3 small kids)looks new inside, i love the way the front end looks, they look really good with dark tinted windows and a bra on the front (maroon body paint), rims are way cool also!
Weakness:
The door seal had to be replaaced, and the brakes. That's it! :) I bought the car in 1998 with 27,000 miles. There are 104,000 miles on my car and the ONLY problem I've ever had has been with the brakes and the door seals. I change the brakes about every 3,000 miles. No big deal compared to all the other reviews I see. My baby still runs WELL, with alot of power. The check engine light just started comming on this month. Otherwise, NO other problems AT ALL! I LOVE my car! It all depends on how you maintance it as to how it runs. |
