MAJOR COLLINGSYSTEM PROBLEMS, ELECTRICAL PROBELMS, AND BRAKE PROBLEMS.

WELL THE CAR RAN GOOD FOR ABOUT TO WEEKS. THEN THE THERMOSTAT STUCK CLOSED CAUSING A HEAD GASKET LEAK. A WEEK AFTER THOSE REPAIRS THE COOLANT TRANSFER HOSE BLEW A LEAK. A MONTH LATER PLUGS AND PLUG WIRES WERE REPLACED. SWAYBAR WENT, WASHER FLUID PUMP WENT, INTERIOR LIGHT RELAY STUCK, AND THE NEWEST PROBLEM IS A ANTIFREEZE LEAK I JUST DISCOVERED TODAY.

Strength:

This is a bright red, sporty car with a comfortable amount of room. It looks good.

Weakness:

Too costly to keep up. The car looses its value rapidly. We owe more that what the car is worth. It seems that something is always going wrong with it. Dodge really needs to do something about the head gasket problem. My uncle has bought 3 Stratus'' and all three blew head gaskets and one had to have its transmission replaced. I will NEVER buy a Dodge product again.

While this is a great looking car, it is far from dependable. If you are interested in buying a Dodge Stratus, change your mind NOW or plan on buying a frequent maintenance plan with your local maintenance shop. At 34,500 miles, our head gasket blew. Now, at 104,000, our head gasket has blown again. The fuel pump left us stranded with a 2 year old last summer. The arm rod (cv or u-joint thing) needs to be replaced - costly. Our complete AC system had to be replaced last summer - $2000. The rear wheel assembly needs to be replaced. The dealer informed ne yesterday that to fix everything that is wrong with it would cost about $2500. I owe about that on it and they say it is only worth about $2500. This car is a piece of junk.

Strength:

Although some people think that the Stratus is somewhat small, it is actually very spacious. I routinely carry 2 kids (in cars seats), 2+ weeks worth of groceries, a stroller and other items with ease and still have room left over. The Stratus'' handling is great as long as the car has the tires to hold it. The stock tires worked well even in winter, although I strongly recommend that drivers who live in snow bound areas get dedicated snow tires for the winter (much cheaper than SUV). The stereo is fair. The 6x9s in the back are bass worthy for stock stereo speakers. So far I''ve had nothing to complain about in terms of its operation. I''ve ran the A/C for over a year straight with no problems, starts fine in the winter (sometimes -20 F).

Weakness:

My only complaint is the power the engine makes. The 2.4L 4 cylinder doesn''t make enough power for my driving style. I''m sure most people will find that for a 4 cylinder it makes enough power. I suggest the V6 model just to be sure.

A great car for those who need space for people or things, want great looks, good handling anda good value. A wonderful car for a family of four, the driving enthuiast who wants a solid handling car with race experience (Super Touring).

Weakness:

Head gasket and fly wheel

Nice styling to the car. But I have to agree with previous posts that the parts they used were faulty. I had the head gasket replaced 3 times in 1 year and after the 3rd time it was replaced and I was driving out of the dealership, the car died. They then replaced the engine. It is now 2 years later and the fly wheel has cracked and is going to be replaced. My dealership so far has been very helpful thank goodness. But my warranty is now over.

Strength:

Gorgeous! Perfect interior, I thought the stupid cup holders would be the biggest problem! Great back seat for my toddler! Enough room in trunk for stroller and groceries! Under the hood, it looks like some space-aged marvel. BUT...

Weakness:

After about 2 weeks, my check engine light came on. Shop had said it was just checked out, so I ignored. Finally went out (after about a month). Strange noises seemed to come from dash every once in a while, kind of like a repeated ding ding ding ding. A/C control lights wouldn''t come on any more. Made it hard to control heat at night. When A/C was on, it felt like the engine might fail, so I''d keep it very low. I still felt like all this was minor. It really looked and handled great. Then, I stopped to get gas, got back in to start it, nothing... Lights would flicker on and off, wouldn''t even make a sound when turning key. Jumping it didn''t help... was pushed to side and parked. Someone came over & said his brother had a problem like that with stratus, some computer chip that cost a fortune???? Don''t know if the guy really knew what he was talking about. So, boo hoo. If you see a really nice looking brownish red stratus sitting at Speedway... That''s my great car. Well, only great looking. Hope dealership doesn''t rob me again... in repair costs. Can a regular mechanic even work on a car like that?

I really wanted for this to be a great car!!! It looked and rode so well...for a few months. If anyone out there has a stratus that is running well, run to your nearest dealership and trade that puppy!! That''s what I wish I had done last week. Sadly, my gorgeous stratus is now sitting, broke down at a Speedway Gas Station across town. Seems like some sort of electrical problem. Maybe a short? No warranty and I can''t afford a big bill. If anyone has advice, please email me!!!

Where do I start

Well I have only had my Stratus for 7 months already it has been in the shop going on 4 times. I am already trying to get rid of this overpriced no good, piece of Junk. The AC is not working, I had a huge leak that left an inch of water in my floorboards. this car is brand new with 17000 miles on it. This is not supposed to happen. I tried to use the Lemon Law on it but since it had over 12000 miles on it (PA Law) I could not. But I learned my lesson, NEVER BUY A DODGE)

Strength:

Styling, engine, stereo. Good sporty car at a decent price

Weakness:

Have heard stratus have problems with sunroof, mine has just started with a little chattering but it nothing bad yet.

I bought this R/T brand new about 6 weeks ago and aside from having my wheels stolen 2 weeks post purchase (have since invested in wheel locks and an alarm) I have been pleased with the car. I got the satin pearl white (highly recommend!) and I have gotten many compliments from complete strangers. The car rides nice and has a great stereo. The looks are killer too. Overall it''s a great car. Its basically a mitsubishi eclipse with a stratus body. The engine, suspension, and transmission are all the from the eclipse. So basically you are buying an american sports car with japanese input.

Strength:

Aerodynamic front end design and a roomy interior not found in Ford and the various Japanese 4-door mid size cars. Smooth handling and turning for about 30,000 mi.

Weakness:

Excessive repair time and some money (thank the extended warranty) for fuel system repairs like filter(s) and a fuel pump. Excessive cold cranking problems began at 36,000 mi, requiring aformention fuel system adjustments and replacement of the crank sensor.

The car is sleek, roomy, and a treat with routine maintenance FOR 15,000 MILES!! The car encountered transmission problems at 18,000 miles. It''s on its third fuel filter at 36,000 miles (3 years of driving for pleasure, rare daily uses commuting), it requires great effort to start from cold (excessive cold crank time). Most of these problems stem from high sensitivity to fuel mixture and various malfunction fuel system components. A decent lease car, but not one to keep past the warranty.

Similar Products Used:

Ford Contour - way too small and engine is severly underpowered. Pontiac Grand Am/Chevy Malibu very similar mechanically and aesthetically, but with less horror stories.
