Strength:

Good pick up, outstanding handling on sharp curves as well as on icy roads. good stereo (however i do not think it is #1 factor). u can even try to race with some "upgraded" cars. If you drive below 80 mph (135 km/h) u have very comfortable ride, at higher speed car becomes less stable (however it is still OK). All my friends impressed by power of 4 cylinders, however for 2.4 litre engine size, it is could be more (i will assume it should have around 170-180, while it does only 140-150) takes too much gas if rpms goes above 3000 (at speed of 75+ mph)

Weakness:

i have car for about 5 month, did not have any major problem, but it is only 45000 miles. However car has some poor enginnering designs. major one in my opinion is Battery location. so if you want to park your car for a long period of time it is pain to disconnect battery. Rear view is not good, because trunk is too high. car sits very low. if you are a hard braking driver, have your rear brakes adjusted evry second month. head room for back sit passanger is not very well designed; if you a toll person, your head is right under the glass instead of metal roof (at sunny day it is expecially uncomfortable. air conditioner to be effective should blow to you or useless. transmition is a littlle bit slow on downshifting (especially from 3 to 2 to 1). rear windows does not go down fully, another 2-4 inches will be good.

Overall is not bad :-). Good pick up, not bad brakes, fancy look, excelent handling, roomy, nice look.
anyway if you need a good performance car (for reasonable base price), and agrees to spend a little bit more then average on maintenance that is the car to choose. it fits my needs very well.

im no mechanic and no nothing about cars, But i do know this car is junk. ive had over 4-5 recals , clunky noise when car starts, idles alot. goes up to 15mph without pushing the gas. check engine light will come on. sparkplug threads stripped for unknown reasons, sparkplugs pop out while driving. eats up alot of gas. remote lock will not lock drivers side, radio cassette player makes a load squeeking sound. engine sounds very loud like a truck. and also i dont think the dodge people are certified or just plain stupid.

Car is great , On looks. very styling. lots of commpliments very confy.

I hate this car, nothing works, the only thing i that's works in this car are the cup holders.

Weakness:

Everything, no power, i lost a race against a firefly

Oh my god where do i begin!!! this car gave me trouble from the moment i bought it. First my transmission went when the car only had 15,000km. The following week i was driving to the races and my paint chipped away on the highway, after that the car overheated for some strange reason and i have a feeling my head gasket is gonna break down soon. The worst part is i didn't get a warrenty with the car so all the repairs came out of my pocket $$$$$.

1990 chevy beretta, 11 year old car and still runs like a champ, the car cost me less than the transmission in my stratus.

Beautifull car. Roomy, sporty, and fast. Awsome steering and a fun to drive. Especially to the racing!!! Car fits everybody perfectly and has cold air cond and good heat.

Weakness:

O.K. here we go...I changed the tranny at 123000 km cost me $3000cdn then I had to change the egr valve and the thermometor. Now i found out I need a new gas pump dam this is a lot of $$$$. Oh yeah I need new bearings and a new belt.

Is it worth it. Well if you have money and patients then I will give it a go.If not look the other way and buy something else maybe a VW. ONLY if Dodge did not use mitsubishi parts in there cars it just might be perfect.

Strength:

Listed above, great torque for such a small engine. Solid feel and no 'play' in the sterring, which I personally like. Looks great and handles great. We took a trip last summer and the trunk had more than enough room for our two suitcases, stroller, and porta-crib. Everything is nicely accessible from the driver's seat.

Weakness:

Here we go: Front end paint had to be repaired within 3 months. Dealer fixed it under warranty. The local dealership here is not the same one we purchased from, and I'm beginning to find out why. If you live in MN, keep going to Brookdale, avoid Adamson's! Service is VERY slow and very overpriced. Replaced brakes at 52K miles (front disk), and they were always squeaky (though the new one's do not, I guess it pays to do your own work). The biggy - the friggin' head gasket went at 44K miles. LIke everyone else on the planet who owns a stratus. This is rediculous for such a new car. The dealer repaired it, and somehow I managed to talk them all the way down to $275 (from $850). I'm sure this will be a recurring problem thanks to the design. Now I see paint peeling from the front again, sigh. I now know why the entire country isn't driving one of these. Too bad, Chrylser really has the market cornered on styling and practicality. But their defects are holding them back. QUALITY. They need to implement some. Makes me wonder if that PT cruiser, however wll priced, is worth it...

Very Stylish. Classy look and very comfortable drive. Tons of trunk space and interior cabin space not bad for the size of the car (6'2" tall and I seem to have no trouble fitting). Drives like a dream and amazing pep for a 2.4L engine (Except for a few high end sports cars, overtakes most vehicles splendidly). Good handling/suspention, solid sterring feel, and excellent sound system. However, see the Weaknesses....

'93 Daytona - much more reliable. Engine still running at 145000 miles and NO head gasket repair, solid brakes and no major problems.
'88 Olds Cutlas. Piece of crap. Nothing but problems. Makes the Stratus look like a Mercedes.
'94 Nissan Altima. Nice car, very reliable. Don't like the drive as much or the interior/room, but at least there were no major repairs.

Strength:

Impressive pick-up for a 4-banger (especially when passing). The interior is roomy and the seats rival many luxury sedans. Enough room for a family of three or four (lots of trunk space). I Especially enjoy the Deluxe sound system (optional w/ 6-pack cd changer). Definately a good buy for the value.

Weakness:

Cup holders, cup holders, cup holders!!! Anything bigger than a 12 oz can is better off in your lap. No maplights.

I paid 9200 for an extensively driven 99 SE. Over 30000 Miles and no problems (I know the previous owner). Good for Dads who want sport and room for the kids, but for low $$. Definately better than the Malibu in the area of performance and comfort.
Hey Dodge, fix those rediculously sized and placed cup holders.

Strength:

Great Power, Very good handling (with the touring suspension), the best ever view and visibility, very good ergonomics and night lights (instruments), powerful Air conditioning (altough noisy), BIG interior and confortable seats.

Weakness:

No Usable cupholders, the Cd changer difficult to reach, eats breakes at an alarming rate, noisy engine at pedal to the metal speeds, very bad fuel economy at high altitudes (practically all of Mexico!), interior dome light is a joke, 5 inches of road clearance

I like the car a lot in fact I have a 1996 and a 1998 but some advices here:
Order it with the touring suspension (is harder ride but very good in the highway) here in Mexico with all our winding roads it makes a HUGE diference.
Get abs, and also if posible order it with the 15 or 16 inch wheels.
Have not had any kind of trouble with any of them, just change the oil and check leves and GOOOO.
The engine is quite noisy at over 4500 RPM and since in Mexico there are no speed limits enforced, well the air noise is always cgreater than the engine at Century speeds and over.
The 1998 is a Turbo R/t Sorry US folks not availiable in the US but it chops 2 secs to 60 and the pasing power is formidable it giver 170 Hp and 210 Lbs of torque (what counts) and I can see al those guys in BMW 325s playing catch up with this baby !
JUst be carefull with those brakes!

Very attractive styling, handling is very crisp, good gas mileage for v6, autostick, color (bright platinum metallic).....very reliable!!!!!!

Weakness:

have had to change brake pads twice....resale value.....engine noise

I got mine in feb 1998 completely loaded with all factory options (except moonroof).....as a demo from a local dealer with 2,000 miles on it...i paid $18,700 (beginning of model year).........and have almost 65,000 miles on it since.....without a single problem....other than replacing a light bulb in the climate control. the mitsubishi v6 is the way to go if you are going to buy a stratus...from my experience and what i've read...it is much more reliable than the chrysler 4 cyl......the only drawbacks about the car are resale value (not really a drawback for me since i will drive until it dies) and it seems to go through brake pads quickly (2 sets aleady)...especially considering that most of the miles are highway....but pads are cheap when you do it yourself.....also i change the oil every 3,000 miles.....no matter if the manuel says 7,500 or not.....(remember - oil is cheap compared to a new engine or car!!).....i have been really satisfied with the car and the color is striking (when clean)....and does not show dirt or rock chips like a darker color would.

Strength:

Looks good, handles very well, Interior is roomy, and the 2.4 seems to move out pretty well. Havent had any of the head gasket probs that others have mentioned. But then this is my wifes cars so it doesnt see alot of high RPM's. This one has 67K on it and I havent had it in the shop yet. I havent even taken it in for its routine maint (I think that all a scam anyway) Changed the front brakes pad myself once and that was no prob. Grinding noise from front pads..they were cheapo's...my bad.

Weakness:

Some lifter noise when cold.
Has one of those nasty rattles in the dash that comes and goes and drives ya nuts.
Has a small oil leak that appears to be coming from between the trans and the engine (rear main??)

Bottom line. Good car for the wife to haul kids and groceries...Probably not suitable to hot rod around at high RPM's in...besides its a four door..its supposed to be a grocery getter! Buy an older V8 mopar at half the cost if ya need to tear around.

Similar Products Used:

Honda Civic...bad alignment probs and crank went out after 80K.
Toyota Camry... a good car
