Engine and most all other under-the-hood components are of such low quality and design that there should be a class action lawsuit against Chrysler. ***Stay away from this car and the company who has the nerve to manufacture it. Similar Products Used: Cavalier, Civic, Camry |

Dodge Stratus ES
Strength:
-Looks good -Handles good -Relatively smooth ride -Comfortable seats -Spacious interior -Great sound quaility from stereo -Good fit/finish
Weakness:
-Brakes are a little weak -Rear visibility -Weatherstripping around rear window is melting from the sun. -I hear horror stories about head gaskets. I haven''t had any problems yet at 40,000 miles! -Original headlights are rather dim. I bought new bulbs for them, which did help a bit. The foglights also help to light up the side of the road though. I bought my dark red Stratus about 1 year ago. I really enjoy driving this car. For a 2.4 four banger, it has a good amount of power. (Almost as much as 3.1 V-6 in Malibu) The car provides plenty of room to haul my things back and forth to college. All together, I like the size and practicality of my car. BTW, it annoys me when people write reviews and totally degrade their vehicles. Sure, every vehicle has good & bad points. Let us know the GOOD AND BAD points. Strength:
very attractive very roomy spacious trunk
Weakness:
emissions system transmission power locks suspension cooling system At first I loved my Stratus but after a while things took a turn for the worst. My A/C stopped blowing snowballs and started with balls of fire. My transmission went totally out. My catalytic converter plopped. My brakes failed. My car is very loud. When I put on brakes it sounds like my motor is falling out. I feel vibrations in the seat when I''m driving. When I try to acclerate the car spudders and takes off as if it is a 1 cyl car. My Check Engine light stays on. When I turn my A/C on my motor runs so violently. It is very embarrassing when I am going up a hill because it hardly doesn''t pull at all. I have had the trans replaced just 8 months ago and it seems to be on its way out right now. All of these things going wrong and I''ve had all scheduled maintenance work done so it''s not a maint. problem. I still like the way my car looks but not the way it drives. they make these cars so lovable with appearance but not with performance. When a car is typically brand new it runs like a champ and after a while the car performs okay but the older it gets the newness wears off. And the troubles progress. To me these still are very attractive cars. Until I read these reviews I had my mind set on a new one. I thouht I was one in few that had major problems with this car. |

Strength:
Nice looks. Runs great first 36,000 miles. But watch out.....
Weakness:
The engine leaks oil all of the time. Head gasket failed, valve cover gasket failed, cam shaft position sensor seal failed. Thankfully Chrysler repaired them all under the "hidden" warranty -- aka complain to the regional manager and don''t give up. Now my transmission is going at 60,000 miles. This car is a piece of crap. I''m never buying a US made car again. This car is a lemon! I have had nothing but problems since the car passed 50,000 miles -- head gasket failed, valve cover gasket failed, cam shaft position sensor failed, and now the transmission is going at 60,000. I work for a company that makes seals and gaskets. Chrysler uses the cheapest material for sealing the engine and transmission. This is why there is always oil spots on the garage floor. Do yourself a favor and don''t buy a Stratus...new or used! |

Its nice looking inside and out. Large trunk. Big backseat, can haul all your college junk! Good heat and a/c. Stereo sounds great,
Weakness:
Seats are uncomfortable, headrests are useless, you put your head against them and you''re looking at the ceiling! TOO UNRELIABLE!!!! Has left me stranded on more than one occasion! Lucky for me my parents live nearby and can borrow a car! Otherwise I would have been screwed!!! DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!I''ve had the car for about a year and a half, and I''ve probably put a grand into it. 2 Timing belts, new pulley, brakes, rotors, headgasket, oxygen sensor, you name it. The car is so loud, too. I have to blast the stereo to drown it out. I would not recommend this car. I''m in the process of trying to sell it before more things go wrong on it! I''m looking foreign this time, Honday, Nissan, Toyota, something with better reliability. Not some Chrysler piece of crap. I repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS CAR, unless you want headaches! Sharp looking Comfortable Spacious Spacious Trunk Good gass mileage
Weakness:
Everything under the hood! When I first got my Stratus I absolutely loved it. Loved the classy look, the spacious interior, spacious trunk, and the stereo system sounds great (there was an amp under the passenger seat.) After driving my car for a few years all I had to do was your basic up keep such as oil changes, new tires, new wipers, and new breaks and roders. After I had my car for about 3 years...things turned for the worse. I had to replace the Head Gasket (Very Expensive!) Valve Cover Gasket, Tyrod Ends, Fuel filter, Fuel pump, water pump, Thermostat (3 times), Belts, Timing Belt, Front Bearing on passenger side, O2 Sensor, Wires, Plugs (2 times) and now I have to replace the driver side Front Wheel Bearing and more Plugs and Wires. This car has turned into a NIGHTMARE! I wouldn''t reccomend this car to anyone. Similar Products Used: 88 Subaru GL 90 Chevrolet Cavalier |

I like the trunk. That is the only good thing I can say. Really!
Weakness:
I have had so many problems with this vehicle from the struts, rotors, brakes, power windows, marks in the interior, loss of power steering fluid at 15,000 miles, transmission leak, hard shifting, shall I go on. I never had these sorts of problems in my chevys! My car now has 19,000 miles and is only a year and a half old. I am looking into getting rid of the piece of junk! I will never buy a dodge, chrysler or jeep product ever again!!!!!!!! I thought I got a good deal during the purchase but boy was I in for a shocker! |

Dodge Stratus
Strength:
- Strong engine!!! - For a 18 year-old like me, its a perfect car. It has the looks, power, and size of a massive sports car. - Super speakers. - My friends 2002 honda civic can''t even match the power of the stratus, and he has the mufflers and intakes and all that boost crap. ** Remember its a 2.4L 16Valve 4cyl. eng. and its 150HP and 167trq **
Weakness:
- not many upgrades, body kits, and performance parts!! why ??!!!! - Autostick should have been a standard. My dad bought this car in 1997 when it just came out. This car had 19k miles, and had a dent in the hood. We had the hood replaced and this car has been in top shape ever since we bought it. Its a 2.4L engine 16 valve, and its a perfect car for the city like New York City. Similar Products Used: ''97 Chrysler Town&Country LX |

Power everything, 16" 5 star alloys(factory), great trunk space, ROOMY, accelerates quickly, and my favorite option of all is the "AutoStick". The AutoStick allows you to change gears without the 3rd pedal...Why go to the corner in 3rd or 4th(in automatic) when your going to stop anyway stay in 1st or 2nd.
Weakness:
No passenger powered seats, and I have yet to see Dodge put out aftermarket parts to keep the Stratus strong and racer friendly. C''mon Dodge! Remember who invented the Viper do the same for us Stratus owners! The 2000 Stratus ES 2.5 V6 is a great automobile! I traded my 1997 Dodge Neon in to put towards the metallic Stratus I saw in the showroom. It was well worth it. I received $5,000 for my Neon, which lowered my payments for the Stratus. I as the consumer came out great considering I dropped $11,000 on the Neon. Similar Products Used: 1997 Dodge Neon |

Good price new but make up for it in repair cost later. So if it is short term you are after, buy now and sell soon.
Weakness:
went to trade in before i found out about head gasket and wanted to give me between $750-$1250 for trade in on a 3 1/2 year old car that is clean.Engine is noisy. Liked the looks and the gas m.p.g. Discovered the 2.4 has head gasket problems.Guess what?after the warrenty runs out, hmm. Needs new head because it was pitted($800).Total price to repair over $1500.Dodge says they have alot of problem with the head gasket on 2.4 but will do nothing to help.I was going to buy a new Ram quad cab this week but have changed my mind.I have lost loyalty to Dodge.Admit there is a problem but tuff S_it.Tie rods Bad after 40,000 miles, brakes at 25,000,and went threw 3 window regulators and it still isn''t right.Dodge needs to wake up and relize looks doesn''t keep customer loyality.Say bye to the ram,bye bye....
