Strength:

power for a 4 cyl. Very roomy, Very large truck. Very sharp looking car.

Weakness:

brakes are constanly going bad, bubbles on hood, pulsating brakes, cup holders are in the wrong place, and have replaced the winshield wipers one to many times, along with brakes.. Boyfriend says brakes are squishy...

Overall, the car is a good car so far. I have owned the car for almost 2 yrs.. I am usually very rough on cars, and if a car can hold up to me, it means it's not a bad car.. Bought car with 24,000 miles, and now have 55,000 miles on it... Besides replacing the brakes 3 times in 6 months. And the pulsating brakes... There is some bubbling in paint on the hood. The car does have some power for a 4 cyl.

Strength:

It looks good and has good leg room if you're tall. However, against his mother's advice, my son purchased a 2001 Dodge stratus because of the ample leg room for the driver and front passenger.

Weakness:

Too many to name. Head Gasket, oil leaks, transmission, plus the expense of car rental while all the repairs are being made, towing costs if the car breaks down while you're miles away from home, dealer repair shops fail to touch major mechanically problems without a recall. (I had a minor oil leak for years and it was never addressed by a dealership mechanic)

I purchased my 1996 Dodge Stratus as a new vehicle. During the first six months, there was a problem with the front wheel that was repaired while the car was under warranty. I felt it drove beautifully and I was impressed with how well the car handled at 55mph and above. The other family cars (for our children) include a 1992 Ford Taurus sedan and a Toyota Camry sedan. The transmission on the Dodge had to be replaced around the 58th month of ownship ( Hard to forget with only two more payments remaining) The transmission replacment was well over $2,500 when you include towing expenses (I was 300 miles from , care rental expenses, and the labor and parts. Along the way the car developed a minor oil leak which turned into a major oil leak. All five mechnics said that they see this over and over again from Dodge Stratus vehicles as a result of design of the head gasket. (I understand that more recent models have been improved). My car is in the shop at the time of this writing getting the head gasket problem repaired to the tune of another (estimated) $1,800. My new Dodge Stratus has had more major mechanical problems than the combination of our children's Taurus and Camry--both of which were purchased used and are older models. It's a good purchase if EVERYTHING is under a comprehensive car warranty. It not a good purchase for someone who wants to keep a car for 7-10 yrs with few major mechanical problems.

Strength:

Nice styling.

Weakness:

Head gasket. Wheel bearings. Dealing with Chrysler.

No major problems until 85,000 miles when the head gasket had to be replaced. "coincindentally" 2 weeks later the oil pick-up arm broke off and burned out the engine. After reading all the problems Chrysler has had with head gaskets & being told the repair history is "proprietary information," I won't buy another Chrysler vehicle. If someone has to have a Stratus, my advice would be buy it new and get rid of it before the warrenty expires!

Easy to drive and fun. Leather interior kept it very nice looking.

Weakness:

Brakes needed fixed, but once fixed okay wheel bearing replace

This is a great car. We purchased it used with 17,000 miles and drove it 54,000 before trading. The only repair was the right front wheel bearing. I truly had fun driving this zippy zoom car.

Strength:

Handles well, spacious.

Weakness:

Costly repairs soon after warranty expires.

After just 55,000 miles the car is falling apart. I can see why Dodge only warranties the drive train for 36,000 miles. In the past six months I've had the following problems 1. Timing belt and water pump had to be replaced. 2. Driver's side seat severely tilts back to one side, making it very uncomfortable to drive the car and resulting in backaches. The seat must be relaced. 3. Blow head gasket. 4. The dirver's side window moter is appears to be on its way to failing.

Strength:

It is a good car for a teenager that will be moving on to a better one soon. I suggest never purchasing on used. There is to much up keep verses a new one with a good warrenty.

Weakness:

There are to many to list. Be sure to buy every warrenty possible and make sure you have towing insurance and road side assistance. I have four brothers that are all mechanics. Unforutnately I did not consult them before making this purchase. They all say that at their shop they have a name for the stratus: Stranded.

This car is the perfect car if you only want it for two years provided it has less than 60,000 miles on it. After about 80,000 miles you can prepair yourself to getting really close to your mechanic and very distant to the money in your bank account. Since I have had this vechicle, in the last 6 months I have replaced the timing belt, the transmission, the starter, the air compressor and fan relay switch, blown a head gasket, and all the electrical problems. Not to mention the cosmetic problems I've had like the trunk switch coming disconeted, the speakers, and the seat mechanisms. This car has been more trouble than it's worth. It looks great, but the blue book value has depleted so much just in the few months I've had. I am only one of the five people that I know that owns a stratus or a neon, and they have all had the same problems.

Neon. The same problems. Look into recalls and common problems. Ask Car mechanics what they have to say about working on a Stratus or Neon.

Strength:

It helps one learn the value of a dollar and how important it is to have friends who can drive you to work. It's also the "poster-car" for cell phones as most Stratus owners find themselves repeatedly thanking God they have one when their standed. The car has it's place in American literature now as the there is now a new definition to the word "Stratusphere"...Stratusphere (n) The anxiety felt by Dodge Stratus owners over what the hell is going to need repairs next.

Weakness:

Movement

Ever meet someone who you're attacted to until they open their mouth? You get a similar experience when you own a Stratus.

Strength:

Both Cars: A 2.4L 4 cylinder that moves more like a 6 cyl. Plenty of power but decent fuel economy. Knock out styling (looks better than the newer Stratus) and interior/trunk space of a much larger car. The orange instrument lighting is just plain seductive. While the interior is a bit spartan compared to a Honda Accord, everything is well thought out (except for the coupholders!) Suspension is taut-handles more like a European sport sedan. It's the kind of car that thrives on running-whether it be blasting down the interstate or tackling some twisty turnies.

Weakness:

Both Cars: Cupholders! Wind noise. While the 2.4L is a strong engine, after 75 MPH it does start to strain. The 96: Hoo boy! I've had to replace the following items under extended warranty: 1-Rear Engine Mount. 2-Transmission Solenoid 3-Head Gasket 4-Cam Shaft sensor seal 5-Catalytic Converter 6-Idle Speed switch 7-EGR Valve 8-Oxygen Sensor 9-A/C parts. All at no out of pocket expense!! The service department at Spitzer Dodge has done a good job of performing the warranty work (what the heck, it ain't a Chrysler Warranty! No money oout of their pocket.)

A Tale of 2 Strati. We own 2 Stratus-a 96 & 98. The 98 has been virtually trouble free and the 96; well the extended warranty company has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

Looks nice, got the Bright Silver and looks sharp with tinted windows and when waxed, looks great! Stero system is great!

Weakness:

Have found several manufacture defects in car. Have owned for 8 months and have had brakes replaced as well as turning signal unit and there is a terrible clicking noise in steering wheel, which mechanic says is normal, what does he think this is the first car I have owned? Pet peeve, in all cars, no ashtray, no ciggerette lighter, what will they think to do away with next. Cup holders could be located in better area. Would I purchase another Status? Not a chance, but would certainly purchase another intrepid if they can get pricing under control!

Over All semi-satisfied. Leased Dodge Intepid which was a great car but price went out of site so had to settle for the less expensive redesigned Status which looks like a mini Intrepid. Looks, but is far from the quality!
