Rides and drives nice, when it is not in the shop. Looks good...good gas mileage for a V-6
Weakness:
MECHANICS Piece of Junk. At 5,000 miles the transmission went out (in the middle of a snow storm) I am on my third transmission modual, then the oil pan gasket had to be replaced, the trunk latch broke twice, at 30,000 miles had to replace brakes and rotors, the water pump and thermostat housing has been replaced and it still makes a hum when it gets warmed up. Strength:
Solid car with a pretty neat looking body. Nice transmission feature (autostick) Good stock speakers.
Weakness:
Could use a little more power. The 2.5L V-6 has so much potential, but is tuned down because of government reasons. This is a pretty solid car. There have only been minor reparis made to since I got it. The major repairs were results of my actions. Only one real incident with bending the exhaust pipe becuase I backed over a curb. People who say this is not a solid car are wrong because their cars are at 100000plus miles and I have never seen a car that runs extremely well at this mileage. The conditons where they drive are probably not so great. |

The car has a smooth ride, except for that god-awful rattling noise coming from the rear. It is roomy enough for my daughter to have plenty of room in the backseat, without riding like a boat.
Weakness:
I have noticed that the brakes feel a little squishy. It's almost as if I can feel air pushing out of them. There is also this clunking noise when going over rough patches of road. I think it may be the struts, but I sure hope not. Overall, I would say that I am very pleased with my car. I have only had it for about four months. The car had around 47K miles on it when I bought it, now it has about 52K. I had definitely put a little wear and tear on the car. I have noticed a couple of minor things that have me concerned though. I came on the internet hoping to find out if anyone else has experienced similar problems and if they could tell me what they are. I don't quite trust mechanics. Similar Products Used: Toyota Camry |

engeneers were totally sleeping when this car was thrown together This car is a major engeneering mess. mitsubishi transmission failures at 68k miles, head gasket leakage at 56k miles, air conditioner relays every year since purchased, fuel pump relays every other year, mysterious no start problems every now and again. Dealerships that make 60$ an hour that forget to put bolt back in. overall i would not tell my worst enemy to have one let alone my friends. in all 4700$ in repair costs in last 3yrs. buy one and i promise you will live to reget it. |

It does have a cool looking shell, but give Dodge credit. It's a great deception job. Looks like a good, solid car but under the hood and, well, basically every part of the car is a piece of junk.
Weakness:
I paid over $4,000 in repairs and it needed more than $5,000 in repairs when I sold it. 1. Fuel pump went out at 42,000 miles. 2. Radiator went out at 70,000 miles. 3. Transmission went out at 82,000 miles. 4. Head gasket went out at 110,000 miles. 5. Exhaust Manifold out at 115,000 miles. 6. Radio, speakers, a.c., trunk latch, steering all went out at 125,000 miles. Sold it at 130,000 miles. Notice these are not small repairs. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a stratus. If you want to be completely frustrated, if you like paying tons and tons of money in repairs, if you enjoy not knowing whether your car will start or run properly, buy a dodge stratus. And all those people that have written good reviews, notice they're all driving new stratus'. Just wait, it'll bite you. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER BUY A STRATUS. |

Doesn't have any! I LOVE my car! It is the most perfect vehicle I have ever owned. It takes care of me and I take care of it. So far I have only had to change the oil and rotate the tires. Schaumburg Dodge is fabulous. Their service is beyond expectation. The RT IS the best kept secret. Now and then I see one exactly like me and the drive always gives a "thumbs up" sign. People have stopped to ask me how I like my car. I am a great PR person for the Stratus RT! Similar Products Used: Daytona Convertible |

Amazing reliability
Weakness:
The wind pushes it all over the place. The gas mileage is horrible I bought my Stratus in October of 2000 when it had 19,500 miles on it, and it now has 45,000. I drive a 70-mile round-trip commute everyday through the nothingness of the Northwestern North Dakota, and I have never had to worry about how I'm going to get home. The wind, however pushes the Strat all over the highway, and I only get about 24 mpg on the highway with it, so the gas mileage could definately be improved for a car with a 4-cylinder. On a better note though, in the two years I've had the car, and through the 25,000 miles I've driven it, I have not had to put any money into the car, other than oil changes, and regular maintenance. Strength:
I will give it this: It does have a pretty sharp looking shell for 1996 standards. However, even that is a downfall when you tell all of your friends how many repairs you have had on it and they say, "Really? That many repairs huh? Well it looks like a good car." You've got to gove Dodge some credit. They know how to hide their horribly built mechanical problems behind a nice looking shell. Beware of the good looking shell, it's false advertizing.
Weakness:
Through the course of three years and a total of 130,000 miles on the car, I paid more than $4,000 in repairs and had more than $4,000 in repairs that the car needed when I sold it. I got $1,200 for the car when I sold it. The depriciation value of a Stratus drops faster than than the stock market after 9-11. Let's list the repairs I had: 1. Fuel pump (44,000 miles) 2. Transmission (82,000 miles) (Oh yea, that's a big one. Mechanics have told me to count my blessings for every mile over 70,000 I get out of a stratus.) 3. Radiator (101,000 miles) (notice, these are not counting all of the little repairs like brake pads and rotars) 4. Hoses, connector wires, cables, and almost the timing belt, thank goodness we caught that one in time. (108,000 miles) 5. Trunk latch, radio, a.c., and automatic windows. (all went out around 115,000 miles) 6. Exhaust manifold (120,000) These are just the major repairs that I paid for. Not mentioning the minor repairs and the repairs ($4,000) that it needed when I sold it. To sum it up, the entire car is a weakness. NEVER buy a stratus. If you love paying constantly for mechanical repairs, if you love it when cars nickle and dime you to death, if you want a car that looses close to six thousand dollars off the lot, if you're looking for a car where the amount you owe will never catch up with the amount of the car, if you want a car where the make of the company promises new innovations and still have the same bad car they made ten or fifteen years ago, if you want a useless built in infant car seat in the back seat, useless because it won't pass any of the carseat standards, if you want a car that has a weird sounding motor while in neutral, that Dodge says is normal for the car, if you're wanting to buy a bubble looking car, then the Dodge Stratus is the car for you. I have really done my homework with the Dodge Stratus, internet, talking to mechanics, friends that own the same car, I even have a really good friend that's a dealer, and nobody, I mean nobody, has been satisfied with the Stratus. If you have any sense at all, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a Dodge Stratus. Oh yea, and never buy from Ken Garf in SLC, they'll lie their face off to you.
