Strength:
Started most of the time.
Weakness:
Major repairs include, short block engine, power steering pump 2x, now water pump is making noise....all this with just 61,000 miles on it. I bought this car with 16,000 miles on it, changed the oil every 3,000 miles faithfully. At 50,000 miles, had to have the short block replaced, (over $3 thousand) luckily, extended warranty covered cost. Now at just over 61,000 miles, power steering pump is going, and the water pump sounds like it''s going out. I am replacing this vehicle with a ''99 Infiniti, yes I know it''s a major step up, but I drive a lot and need a more dependable vehicle. Last but not least, do not buy from Larry H Miller dealerships (Utah) they leave you with so much negative equity in the vehicle that it''s almost impossible to get out of with a trade-in. Do yourself a favor if considering this vehicle, check out the Nissan reviews first. I guarantee you will think twice before buying if you do. Strength:
None--what a POS!
Weakness:
Have had to repair: Head Gasket--well known problem. Power Steering Pump Alternator Belt Leaking Trunk--another well known probem. Squeaking Brakes--was told by mechanic that Dodge/Chrysler notorious for this problem--use cheap alloy on parts. Blow Motor Oil Pressure Switch Cam Sensor Also found out there are problems with air bags not deploying and breaking front seats! One Word -- Poor Customer Service! Car falls apart right out of factory warranty --dealer refuses to acknowledge problems. When I checked on the web there were tons of complaints about the problems I had. Similar Products Used: Geo Metro--my Metro ran reliably for 140,000 miles--only changed oil, battery, muffler and brakes once. A way better car and for less of a price. |

Strength:
Peppy, good gas milage.
Weakness:
Oil leaks, gasket/seal failures frequent. Will not purchase another Dodge. Environmentally friendly paint started to wash off with soap and water after about 2 1/2 years. Went through hell with the dealer and Diamler/Chrysler (Out of 36,000 mile warranty) to get them to finally agree that this was a MFG defect and that they would repaint the car. Have driven this car hard and have placed many miles on it. Changed oil every 3000 miles. Started leaking oil at 65,000 miles. Replaced valve cover seal and rear main seal. Started leaking again at 95,000 miles. New valve cover seal and rear main seal. Blew head gasket at 110,000 miles. Water jacket deterioration on head due to an original MFG defect. Complete valve job, complete engine seal replacement, valve cover and rear main seal replacement. Less than 1000 mi later, rod bearings on number 1 piston failed. Getting rid of car. |

reliable, affordable, fun
Weakness:
Instrument panel seems to short circuit every 10,000 miles (150.00 to fix) At 55,000 miles, the head gasket broke...EXPENSIVE to fix My Neon always starts, and It''s been a great college car. It''s never left me stranded, and you''d be amazed at how much stuff you can fit in the trunk! |

Strength:
quick acceleration from a stop comfortable nice shape not too much road noize good brakes
Weakness:
acceleration on the highway non-adjustable steering-wheel hard to find inexpensive aftermarket engine parts i am pretty tall and my neon is comfortable for me it has good acceleration from a stop but it does not have good acceleration on the highway around 80 mph unless you shift down to 4th gear so when racing people on highways a lot of gas is used it is a smooth ride unless you have 17 inch rims with low-profile tires lowering springs and a strut bar then it''s kinda bouncy |

Strength:
well i cant say much about strenth because my head gasket recently went, but this car loves the high rpm and speed Handles very well Transmission shifts well at 6500rpm Brakes are ok, little soft Heater works very well Very comfortable to drive Takes bumps good
Weakness:
It didnt like the NOS upgrade, HEAD Gasket (of Course) A/C didnt work Cruise control doesnt work at high speed Stupid rev limiter wont let me go past 120mph,(like it could go any faster) Doesnt start good in very cold weather Grinds whne put in reverse when i first got this car i adored it. It is a bright red and it looked sporty and it is good handleing. But it only has 64,000 mile on it and it is starting to knock a little in the engine, Currenty i am trying stuff like Z Max. i have never seen a neon with a lot of miles. and i dont exspect to get more than 100,000. miles out of it,But i hope I''m wrong. I beat the crap out of my neon every day and every day it goes the same. |

Dodge Neon
Strength:
Car is extremely quick (faster than my V6 Rodeo for sure), handles great, is very roomy inside, has a decent sized trunk, and is overall a decent car.
Weakness:
The head gasket going pissed me off. I hit a bump once and 4 of the 6 speakers quit working. I put in a new radio and guess what, it DIDN''T FIX IT, I guess the problems in the wiring somewhere (sigh). The paint coming off in chunks is a bit of a turn-off. I actually have very few complaints about this car -- it''s just that the ones that I do have are kind of major I suppose. I''ve always been a fan of smaller, sportier cars, but I was also looking for a four door. The Dodge Neon turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. My waranty ran out at 36,000 miles -- my head gasket blew at 38,000. I refused to pay the $500+ that Frontier Dodge wanted to fix it, so instead I drove a practically new car around for three four years that leaked about a quart of oil a week. It didn''t BURN oil, it LEAKED it - in my driveway, in the street, everywhere I parked it. In July of 2001 I took the car back to Frontier Dodge and took a pile of printouts that I had gathered from the internet about the head gasket problem. Frontier Dodge installed a new head gasket FREE OF CHARGE - that''s right, no charge for parts or labor. The other day I took my ''95 Neon to the carwash and a quarter-sized chunk of paint came off. After closer inspection, I have found three places now missing paint. I searched the web again and see I''m not the only one with this problem. We''ll see what Frontier Dodge has to say about this ... If you see a Neon cheap, be VERY WARY, as you may be looking at some expensive repair bills right up front. Dodge Neon
Strength:
A very reliable car Goes fast when is needs to A/C and heater work great Handles excellent, especially in the snow I can''t say enough good things about it!
Weakness:
The fact that every neon has to have a head gasket replaced, no matter what year I have a white 1998 Dodge Neon 4-door. I absolutely love it and couldn''t have asked for a better first car. Yes, I did have to replace the head gasket at 55,000 miles, but the cost was almost nothing. The brakes are squeaky, but i have also heard of several honda civic''s with the same problem. I have had no peeling paint on my neon, and no rattles or squeaks on the inside. Maybe the reason I have had no problems with my neon, other than the head gasket, is the fact that it is very well taken care of. The oil has been changed every three thousand miles and I don''t treat it like a " cheap economical car." I would highly recommend this car to anyone. The key to not having a bad neon is to just take care of it. My grandmother also has a 1999 two-door neon and will say the exact same things about it- she loves it! Similar Products Used: none |
