Strength:

Smoother and more refined then previous neon. good amount of room good gas mieage easy on the pocket book

Weakness:

Still has a rough ride wind noise stiff gas pedal engine not as smooth as the ford focus ztec engine

Well I had a 1996 neon and had put over 136000 mile on it before I got rid of it. I brought a 2000 ford focus zx3 2 door hatchback. After many recalls with the focus I questioned the long term reliabilty of the focus and also I saw the need of a 4door car instead of a 2 door. I had many problems with the 1996 neon I had 2 head gaskets going out, transmission leaks. A/C going out. over heating. And many many other problems. Well it seems as though Dodge has corrected the problems of the old neon in the new one. There is more refinement in this new car. the engine isn''t as load and is also smoother. The head gasket problem had been taken care of I am told. And there are full frame doors. There is more room inside and out. The rdie isn''t as good as the focus I had was, nor is the engine as smooth, but, I have nothing really bad to say about it, A 100% improvement over the old one I used to have and Dodge gave me a 7year/100000 mile protection warranty on the engine and transmission for free.

Strength:

Excellent interior and dash. Really attractive and easy to read.

Weakness:

Braking Engine stalls almost twice a week. Loud...very loud interior, although it is a NEON.

This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned and due to the poor customer relations (I went arbitration to return the vehicle at 4,000 miles and they said NO) I will never again buy a Dodge product. Although I have had great success with the Jeep line, Chrysler is out for the rest of my income. We replaced the brakes at 22,000 and now we are at 36,000 and the car still brakes loudly and bad. Do not buy this vehicle!

Model Reviewed: Dodge Neon R/T

Strength:

150Hp performance & great handling for very little money. R/T option package, good supportive front bucket seats, head room in the back seat(for a 2-door). Nice heavy "real-car-like" doors.

Weakness:

Gas mileage is not as forcasted, but that could be because it is so fun to rev - my wife gets much better gas mileage in it than I do. Road noise, the stock Goodyear tires are rediculously noisy, and those rattles I discussed earlier. Cargo room - one big suitcase - tell your friends and relatives to pack light if you intend to pick them up at the airport in this car). Windows creak and groan as they go up and down - I think that''s a Dodge trademark as my Ram makes similar noises, not as bad as the Neon though. Stripes, my wife hates them.

When I purchased this car, I was looking for a high gas mileage commuter to drive everday in place of my gas-hungry Ram 4x4 (hungry-hungry-hippo as my wife refers to it). Initially I didn''t even consider the Neon since I was single at the time and the "Hi" commercials and looks of the Neon just didn''t give the impression of a man''s car. Nevertheless, after looking at several different small Japanese cars and a Saturn, I found myself at a Dodge Dealership just to see what a Neon was like. Despite the fact that the new 2000 models were already coming out, I spotted a couple of 99 R/T''s on the lot and decided to take one out for a spin since they seemed to have a lot of options for the price. What I discovered was a high gas mileage car that was actually fun to drive. After driving all of the Japanese cars, I had resigned myself to spending most of my commute in the right hand lane (that''s the slow lane for those of you out there who don''t seem to realize which each lane is for). With the Neon, I was having a blast running through the gears of the tight 5-speed and cornering. Needless to say, with this type of performance, its forcasted gas mileage, and the price I was able to overlook its less than manly looks and even its stripes (I failed to properly negotiate the removal of the stripes before closing the deal and was told that it would cost me $400 to have them removed post-sale). Since that time, my overall experience with the Neon has been good. The handling and shifting is still tight at 40k miles and have had no significant mechanical problems. I would say that the car could use a bit more refinement though. The cupholders down below the stereo, between the floor and the console, are an accident waiting to happen and definitely limit the size of cup that can be put down there. The windshield wiper/washer stick rubs the steering wheel when pulled back to spray the windshield (gives you sort of a "cheap" impression). The car has also developed a couple of annoying interior rattles, one from the trunk area, one in the driver door that drives me nuts and I can''t figure out where it is coming from, and the sunroof is prone to coming loose and rattling due to its poor design. The sunroof also generates a significant amount of wind noise, especially when it is out of adjustment. Overall, the Neon R/T is a great car, especially for the price.

Strength:

nice dashboard, great interior, big capacity trunk compartment, comfortable interior, have features distinct only for Neon products (automatic door lock, etc.), attractive body design, powerful enough for its category, and price is a bargain.

Weakness:

idling and vibration can be felt in the seat (makes you feel tired and unrested), control knobs paint peeling, poor rear view, HVAC system noisy at times.

This is the lesson learned: If you are after looks and advanced feature, go for Neon; but if you are looking for quality-ride and quieter transmission, consider corolla or civic

Weakness:

Paint scratches easy, Poor visibility in rear, stereo turns itself down, transmission probs, door sensors have been smached 5x''s now because the seat bealts do not tighten and stay out in the door.

Was not a bad car until 22,000 miles when the transmission had to be replaced. Then again this week 36,000 transmission is being replaced again????Why? No answer as to why. Will this car get to 100,000 without another trany replacement

Strength:

Everything inside and out

Weakness:

Nothing that won''t go wrong with any other car after years of wear and tear

I have driven my Dodge neon for over 2 years now. I love my car, it has been nothing but good to me. Of course I replaced the head gasket @100000km, this is expected over the wear and tear on a car. I drive my car really hard and the car has never let me down. It is peppy for a smaller engine. It looks sporty and its awesome on gas. The neon is roomy and really enjoyable to drive. Everyone should own a Neon. This car has been nothing but good to me.

Weakness:

None really, just not exactly the best gas mileage though.

Its been a good car for me. Uses gas like theres no tomarrow, but overall, its a good reliable car. It has good pickup for a 4-speed automatic, SOHC engine. Yes, 4-speed. Find more reviews if you want to get one.

Strength:

Very quick, good room for that small a car, nice button lay out, very nice SOHC 2.0 liter 4.

Weakness:

lots-o-problems, what for oil leaks, bad head gaskets.

I love it, it''s been a great car. except the fact that its been in the shop more days than i''ve driven it. We bought it used and after a week of having it, that''s when we had the first problem. But it was covered by an excelent Garantee, and after millions of oil leak fixes, ans a new engine (not the cars fault) it runs great. With the custom wheels I put on it, it''s a real head turner.
