just one - those darn door frames This is the first and only car I have ever owned, and I am very pleased. I keep on reading all these bad reviews of the neons and I just don't believe them. I am a believer of if you take good care of your car it will last forever. I have owned my 1996 Dodge Neon since the day it was driven off the dealer's lot. It has 170,000 miles(YES 170,000 on a 4 cylinder) on it so far and is still going strong. I haven taken great care of it. It's a super sporty little 2-door car with plenty of punch! I know you are thinking that something has to be wrong with this car, well i havent had a single engine problem that couldn't be fixed with a simple tune-up. The only thing i can complain about it is why Dodge didnt make the 2-doors with solid door frames to reduce some of the wind noise(very insignificant amount though). Overall, you could classify this as a little hot rod, the 150 horses is plenty for the slightly over 2000 lbs. car. It sits low to the ground with the 14" tires all the way out to the edges and handles/corners awesome! |

Crash Performance Factory Stereo '95 was the first year the Neon came out...a lot has changed since then. I really had no problems with my Neon during the time that I owned it. The only complaint I have is that I was involved in a low-speed (< 30 mph) front-end collision and the car really obtained a lot of damage. I'll accept the crumpled hood and busted bumper, but I was a little upset that my airbags blew out my windows...poor design. Prior to the crash, however, I really loved the car and I miss it to this day. Similar Products Used: Chevrolet Cavalier Volkswagon Jetta |

Weakness:
Head Gasket leaks Oil leaks Noisy brakes Fan relay failed Tight engine Lousy accelaration Easy to get into if you don't have keys. Overheats AC is no good on hot days, it will overheat the car. Don't expect to sell it. This was my first car. I figured the since there were so many around, it must be good. I found out real fast how wrong I was. 800 km away from home, the alternator fails. I had the head gasket replaced 3 times and it still leaked a month later. The repair manuals were no help, because you couldn't see anything in the engine. A car theif tried to steal it by using a screw driver in the ignition (luckily it was equiped with a security feature). The fan relay stopped working, and the dealership said the only way to fix it is to replace the CPU ($350)(they didn't mention anything about the recall on it). When the starter failed, I had to have it towed to the shop, because there is no way to get to it. The final straw was the accident. The parts alone were more than the original purchase price. The only Junker that would take it gave me $350. Similar Products Used: None |

if you get yellow...do not park under street lamps!! (bugs) i was looking for a car for graduation. i wanted something sporty but with a good price. my mother wanted me to get another honda, but where i live everyone has a honda. On the way to my grandma's house my parents saw a car that i would love. the next day i went to look at it. It was a limited sxt sport neon. i had to have it. i't yellow and comes with a spoiler, rims, and yellow around the shifter and cd player. It has four doors so it's kind of practical. i'm overall happy with the car. i soon got mirror tint on the windows. the guy who did it slashed the window seal stuff and dodge was nice enough to replace it. I really like it. It's good on gas to an extent.(i owned a honda civic that got 63 miles to the gallon) i recommend a neon. but before you buy make sure about the warranty. i don't have any problems, in fact i have started winning trophies at car shows because they think i've done all the custom work!!!! cute decent milage roomy has been reliable since the starter relay swich went out(almost a year ago) good first car price heating and AC good
Weakness:
head gasket? squeaky brakes no TAPE player loud the fear of "what's going to go wrong next?" not too good on windy days When I was looking into buying a new(to me)car, I was just thinking how good it would be to not drive the ghetto mobile I was driving before. But at least that car was reliable. I had the car a day and the battery was dead; a month later the spark plugs were shot; a couple months after that the "service engine soon" turned on and wouldn't go away-it was the starter; a month later the starter relay switch went out and left me stranded at work, and watching a tow truck take that hunk of junk to the dealership to get fixed. The brakes squeak(of course-probably a trademark or something). After reading all theese reviews I'm going to be waiting for the head gasket to go out(knock on wood-maybe the guy that owned it before me already replaced it-that's not my luck). I'm just grateful that I decided to go with the extended warranty or I would be out a whole lot of money, for something that I won't get jack for when I trade in. But I drive it like crazy and it has about 92,00 miles, but still is going fairly strong. I'm in the process of moving, and you would be surprised how much junk I fit in to the thing. But my Grandma has a 2001 Plymouth Neon LX and is really pleased with it, except for some sort of recall on the brakes. My overall review would have to be: not worth the headache. A word of advice: know about the car before you sign your name. I'm looking forward to saving up some money to trade in this headache(probably for a nother). Flawless Paint. Dollar Value. 7 Year 100,000 mile Warranty. Have nearly 10,000 miles on it and no squeaks/Rattles. Smooth/Quiet Ride. Awesome factory CD/Cassette Sound system. Great Acceleration/Passing power.
Weakness:
Fuel Economy could be better. Having to admit to liking a Neon. Almost bought a Civic... Then I drove this car. I didn't expect much as you always hear people telling you why not to buy any American small car, but I couldn't be happier! Mine has a beautiful dark charcoal leather interior, shiny alloy wheels, ABS, traction Control a sunroof and a CD changer in addition to all the power goodies for almost $2000 less than my best quote on a Civic EX with less equipment! Plus I got that great 7 year warranty and this car is so much quieter on the highway. My friends still can't believe it's a Neon. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic, Pontiac Sunfire (Yuck!) |

Strength:
small, drives well, good mileage, keeps running.
Weakness:
minor annoyances like squeaky brakes and a/c problems, and apparently the head gasket is a problem in most cars I love my Neon. I got her used in 1999, and she's been running great ever since. I did have a problem with the air conditioner, and the brakes squeak (unfixable), and I just found out I need a new head gasket. I hear people have a lot of problems with this year's model, but mine has had relatively few. If you just take care of it, it will pay off. I have nearly 93,000 miles on the car, and she still runs wonderfully. |

bad paint job, electrics I owned 2 ''95 Neons and had a love hate relationship with them. On the plus side they both got about 35mpg, and one currently has 210000 miles on it and is still going. The other had cronic problems with the check engine light staying on, and some weird electrical problems like when you stepped on the brake the left turn signal came on... The paint is flaking off badly on one, but really does not show any signs of age (rust). Similar Products Used: NA |

When the Neon isn''t at the dealer, it actually runs well. It''s peppy, handles well, and doesn''t rattle at all, even at speeds as high as 85.
Weakness:
Lack of reliablility, poor quality as described in my summary, loud engine, very poor gas mileage for a car in the compact class, difficult to see out back of window. I purchased my Neon Highline 4-door Automatic Sedan new in July of 1997. I''ve owned it almost 5 years now and currently have 15,000 miles on it. I have the oil changed faithfully every 3 months and I take it in for its scheduled maintenance every 3,000 miles. At approx. 7,500 miles, I started experiencing problems with the car (idling too low and wanting to stall; idling too high and bucking forward; chirping as it tries to change gears, etc.). That was 33 months ago. Within that amount of time (between 7,500 miles to the 15,000 miles I currently have on the car)my car has been back to the dealer six times. Five of the six times my "service engine" light went on and my car completely died a few of those 6 times. With each problem, my Neon has experienced the same symptoms as mentioned above; yet, the supposed problem isn''t always the same. (I say supposed problem, because I really don''t think the dealer knows exactly what the problem is; in other words, they guess...) The O2 sensor was replaced twice, the wiring harness was replaced once, the TPS sensor was replaced once, and the spark plugs were replaced twice(once at 12,145 miles and again at 14,800 miles!!!) My brakes have squeaked since day one, and I had a massive leak into my trunk and back seat that came from one of the tail lights (very common problem in the Neon). Due to all the problems that I''ve encountered, I did not trust the car enough to go without a warranty, so I purchased the extended warranty before my 3-year factory warranty expired. I know many people who own Neons and all have experienced problems with them. Would I ever purchase another? Absolutely not! Would I recommend a Neon to anyone? Never! My car is still like new and has been well cared for, so I completely disagree with the poster who claims that as long as you take proper care of it, you will not have problems! Definitely not true... I will be trading my junk in for a Toyota in the near future! Wouldn''t even want another Neon if it was offered to me for free.
