I had the 150 hp version kinda peppy for a small car.The gas mileage was good as well
Weakness:
WOW!major engine problems, master cylinder, terrible brakes(almost died once because I couldn't stop)cruise control, abs sensors, oxygen sensors, infamous head gaskets, suspension bottoms out,bad paint Basically this car is a Dodge Omni don't be fooled by newer versions-not much has changed this has got to be the worst car ever produced. I even wrote Chrysler a letter telling them how bad this car was.A month after I purchased this vehicle it was getting serviced.I can't think of much that wasn't fixed.Luckily I bought an extended warranty. Not lucky for them in the 2 1/2 years I owned it $12 000 worth of repairs were done. The warranty company even sent reps to look at the car not believing it could be so bad.Stay away from the neon it is the lemon of the 90's Similar Products Used: Mazda Protege 5 |

Head Gaskets, Rear Main Engine Seals, Valve Cover Gaskets, Timing Cover Seal, Tires, Paint Flaking, Sheet Metal Rusting. I have been an avid Plymouth Enthusiast for 20 years. My First car 20 years ago was a Plymouth and My Last just may be the Neon I purchased in 1997. It has accumalated only 52,000 miles and it has the Famous head gasket failure and also oil leaks, as well as the head light covers turning so yellow that it Failed the Yearly Inspection. Mopar wants over $200 each? huh? I think that even though I have been loyal for 20 years..... it's time to turn my back on Chrysler (like they care) and head in a positive Direction. Nice looking vehicle.
Weakness:
Squeaky brakes Very cheap quality Loud engine The list goes on and on......... Fortunately for me, I did not purchase this car, I am leasing it. Which means, that I can give it back and don't have to worry about the resale value of it. This vehicle has been more trouble then it is worth. I now have 70,000 Kms on the vehicle and my lease is up in two months. I had to replace the Serpentine Belt at 30,000 Kms which was not covered under warrantly. I have had the brakes done at 30,000 Kms (apparently not covered under warranty) and now they tell me I have to get them done again (which I have not done). Both times, at a cost of $177.00. There have been several recall notices and most recently, I had to have the cam sensor replaced, the rear main seal and my vehicle speed sensor had to be replaced as well. All of this was covered under warranty, but I also had to have 2 transmission cooler lines replaced, this was not covered under warranty. My passenger side window has worked maybe two years out of the four that I have had the car. I have had this fixed several times, but it continues to break. |

Head gasket Instrument panel I have owned my Neon since it was new. I had enjoyed it for 44,000 miles when I found out I like most other Neon owner have a blown head gasket. I have taken great care of this little car as it was my first new car. I am very disapointed in this major problem with so few miles. The dash instruments have a mind of their own. They work sometimes, sometimes they don't. I also have had an air leak in the drivers side window since about 10k. No wonder the warranty is only good for 30k or 3yrs! Great handling, the stock stereo is better than expected, very comfortable and roomy, good take-off, big trunk, good a/c and heater, very fun to drive!
Weakness:
a/c and heater: also a weakness...it's either too hot or too cold..it shocks you a lot when you get out..it gets kinda annoying I love my little neon! I bought an SE model that comes w/ AC, AM/FM tape and automatic... It's fun to drive, handles corners very well :), has a lot of torque packed into that little engine...I've had it for about a year and have had no problems with it whatsoever. I bought it with about 4,000 miles on it and have since put about 60,000 on it. I am pretty hard on the little thing and not always changing the oil when i should (whoops) but it's never failed me yet. I would defenitly buy another one! Similar Products Used: I've driven my friend's honda civic (2000 EX) and the neon has far more power and handles much better..also much much cheaper! |

A/C died (after I ran into a car and there was no damage) I love this car more then anything. I bought it with 69k miles. I used it or 3 years and the only problem I had was that someone ran into me and put my trunk into my backseat. But other then that it was a bream. Even after the crash it waas still running stong. The motor was a gem. The o2 sen. blow, but that is not a big deal. I never fixed it in 3 years. I also drove it everywhere. I went from Florida to Ohio and back and I drove 40 miles a day to work and back it had more then 121k and nothing ever major went wong. |

It's very stylish Am/FM radio, tape player, 6 disc CD player, nice wheels, rear wing spoilers and all.

I'm having problems with it so soon. I recently purchased a brand new 2003 Dodge Neon SXT with less than 50 miles on it. I drove it for six days. On the seventh day, an orange light came on in my car. I looked through the maintenance book and the symbol meant malfunction light. I called the dealership and they told me to bring it in. The man said that I could drive the car short distances but if the light started to blink, I needed to pull over immediately. I didn't want to take that chance, so I took the car in on the next Monday. I have now been without my car for almost a month. Which is longer than I have even driven the car. I am really disappointed that my first brand new car is giving me problems so soon. Similar Products Used: 1997 Ford Expedition 1993 Honda Civic 1991 nissan 240 |

It's almost paid for.
Weakness:
It's in the shop almost as much as it's in thre driveway. Right now, we're not using the Neon. Reason being, we're having the head gasket replaced...FOR THE THIRD TIME! Trunk leaks and the battery clamps won't tighten enogh to make consistant contact. We've had the driver seat reupholstered twice, and this car only has about 70K miles on it. I'll NEVER buy another Dodge! |

*Even though we only have a 4 cyl. it feels like the get-up of the neon is really good I own a 2001 Dodge Neon ES with the Sport package. I loved my neon from day one: the color, the style, the look, the price. I always call it "my little hotrod." My spirit has definitely changed about my neon, though it is still "my little hotrod." I bought my neon in Missouri with 4 miles on it. I was the first owner and it was my first brand new car. Two months after owning my neon, the Air Conditioner unit went out. When the neon was 6 months old my family and I moved to Mississippi (military). The motor in my power window went out. I then got a brake hose recall letter in the mail. Then, my back right tires started grinding when I applied the brakes. Since, all of these problems occurred simultaneously I had them all looked at during one visit. All of the problems were fixed except the grinding of the brakes. Of course, they would have to be changed and rotated, which was not covered under warranty for some reason. The brakes did get changed and rotated but the problem was still occurring and even worse than before. I took my neon back to the shop 7 more times for this problem, I have finally given up on this particular problem. Each time I am told, "There is nothing wrong with them," or "It is just the humidity in the Mississippi air." Sadly, we had 2 different brakes jobs which were not covered under warranty. Hurricane season started. My front driver floor board was totally soaked. Little did I know the trunk of my neon, where the tire is held, had 2 gallons of water in it (I know this because I used my shop vac to clean it up). A few hours later, after more heavy rainfall, I opened my trunk, which was full of water again. My car was in the shop for 2 months straight. While they try to find the source of the leak. All 3 of my brake lights had a leak. The front of the car had to have all the seals replaced and filled with smoke to find the source of that particular leak. My carpet in my trunk was replaced because mold was growing. But the front carpets were not replaced because there was no evidence of mold growing. When I finally went to pick up my neon, the mechanic drove it through the shop and the grinding of the tires happened (as usual). All the mechanics stopped to look and made comments such as :"wow, that can't be good," "I don't think the problem is fixed," and so forth. The mechanic which worked on my car made several comments about how much of a lemon my car was and how he knew are names and our neon by heart. Starting once again this January '03, my neon is back to all of its problems again. I started hearing a clunking in the front of the neon. At the shop the mechanics turned and rotated my rear brakes, even though the noise was in the front. After all that, my tires need to be aligned for $90 for just my back tires... I don't think that is right either. One, I don't know why that isn't under my factory warranty and two, $90 for only 2 tires. I took my car elsewhere to have the tires aligned. The exact same day I got my car out of the shop, I took it to have the tires aligned. The mechanic and I both noticed and wobbling noise with a little bit of grinding in the rear, same place all the work was just done. So, I took the car back to the dealership. Within an hour I was called and told inside my rear drums had excessive brake-dust in them, but my rear brakes and shoes were fine. The only problem was this too was not covered under my factory warranty, the cost for having this done would be $120. Okay, a pattern is developing here. I am beginning to wonder what exactly is covered under "My factory warranty." So far nothing is. I truly thought I loved having a dodge product, in fact right now I have 2, but I am not sure for how much longer. All the paper work is in line for my neon and the lemon law. It has been approved but only to an extent. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic Honda Accord Ford Focus |
