bad past brother Neon history

I test drove the new SRT-4 2003. It handles like crazy. Looks nice too. But is the new SRT 4 gonna have same problems as the Neon previously. Not sure. Still scared of neons bad consumer responses. So if SRT-4 is better maybee I will purchase it. Also wondering if SRT-4 and PT Cruiser Turbo have the same engine setup. Cause they are both 2.4 Turbo. But those Viper Style seats in the SRT-4 rock. I love my neon It has almost 70,000 miles on it and i havent had any major problems Its very reiable and looks good

It's terrible but most may be true about neons but they have improved over time. I just bought a 2000 neon es with 40,000mi, i now have 60,000 and the damn thing aint hicupped yet! I did some engine mods and added rims, i'm smokin rt neons and beating the stratus rt's with now prob, get to 4 on the tach and feel that head whip back, i'm impressed with this car. I wasn't gonna buy it at first because i love honda's but i gave it a chance and it has performed like a champ. In a couple months i'm ordering the srt-4, and for all u neon haters this means turbo, running 14.1 in 1/4 mile, more bang for buck baby, just dream of my tailights if u can see them cause thats all u are gonna remember, see ya on the road, GO NEON!!!!!!!!!!!

bad designs engineering, electrical problems

DO NOT BUY A DODGE NEON. After 1 year the electrical harness shorted out. The dealer immediately told me no warranty and laughed in my face. I have 45,000 miles on the car (yes i drive alot) however a car that is one year has an electrical short????? Call to chrysler did get the problem fixed for free although i was without a car for a week and had to pay for my rental car. Just today my check engine light has come on and shows codes 3, 4 and 5. 3 and 4 related to oil and 5 related to electrical (oh great!) Of course the first words from plaza dodge "Don't even think we are paying for this... its 75 bucks and hour to check it out and see us friday." NO WAY am I going back to them! The battery died in 6 months becuase of a bad design.. the battery is enclosed in an area that gets too hot and causes it to fail.. no problems with the new battery. If you have a 2001 dodge neon or any neon made 2000 or better, please contact me. If the list grows and grows I suggest a class action lawsuit for gross negligence.

Car is awful and I have been sorry since the day I bought it. After 1 week of having the car I needed to put in a rebuilt transmission. Shortly there after, I noticed that the truck leaked terribly which caused my interior trunk to rot out and also made my back speakers stop working. Not even 1 year after having the car the paint began to peel from it which made large grey spots all over the car. It runs VERY loudly, the service engine soon light seems to always be on, and water gets in between both front doors which makes the front 2 speakers cut in and out which is ebough to drive anyone nuts.

great pick up, real good handling, dont even notice its goin 85 when im supposed to be goin 75 LOL. easy to add power to. just over its fun. i love the car to death.

i cant really think of one, i like 4 bangers. kinda fun if you ask me put some work into it, its worth it

sleek car, always wanted one since i was 14 years old, now 20 and have one, im proud of the car. i have a lil fun with it, beefed it up some, added a new exhaust (tore off the muffler added straight pipes) added rims... looks clean as hell. carbon fiber shifter, new seat covers, all the goodies.

I've just sat here for the last half hour and read shockingly bad reviews of every model and year of the neon. I wanted to add my review to the long line I just described. This car was great until the warranty expired...sound familiar. Of course the first thing to go was the air conditioner, and while it was in getting replaced I was informed that the head gasket had met an untimely demise. Boom - a $2000.00 bill. Luckily for me I have a relentless and retired father who spent hours on the phone and managed to get the cost of the head gasket covered by the manufacturer. Now for all of the annoying incidentals. It's leaking some kind of fluid again, the breaks make squeaking noises akin to the hinges on doorframes in horror movie haunted houses...and that's when it's dry outside. If there's been any rain you could easily wake the neighbours with one footfall on the break pedal. The air noise is atrocious, there is no floor mounted air vent on the passenger side of the vehicle, and in Winnipeg's winter the result of that is that your passenger's feet turn into ice cubes, and the battery has been replaced twice. Now for the weird stuff. After turning the car off and exiting the vehicle it still sounded like the car was running. There's nothing like having all of your co-workers describe your car as "Christine". Apparantly this was due to a faulty "solenoid?" switch. Whatever. It was a first for me in 15 years of driving. Then, the hand brake broke. This is something I've never encountered in a car before. One day I just pulled up on the handbrake and there was absolutely no tension at all. That was $350.00 to replace. The dome light goes on sometime after you open the driver's side door - usually just as you're closing the door once already inside of the vehicle...and now the piece de resistance. For no explainable reason, after driving for sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 20 or 30 minutes etc, the air will stop coming through the vents. You can hear the fan motor working (which I've also had replaced by the way) but no air is coming out. The mechanics can find no fault for this, so I've had to devise my own solution. It seems that this problem can be rectified by switching the air flow to the dashboard level vents only for about 5 to 10 minutes, then the car is fine. Maybe I am driving Christine after all..

ok car it leaks oil and the door sticks the lights are so yellow you can hardly see at night. its got pretty good giddy up but the cabin noise is terrible between the engine and the wind you cant hear a thing.

Beautiful, good gas milage. Most of my problems aren't something that will keep me from driving-just little bothers. Lots of head room-even in the back seat, great interior, and heating/cooling system is wonderful!

If they know about the head gasket, then why don't they do a recall and save us all the money!! There are a lot of mechanical problems, and none of them seem to be cheap, nevermind covered by warranty!

I love my car. She's cute, she's sturdy, and she's been everywhere with me. Despite this, I keep finding little problems everywhere. I had the head gasket problem, and although I'm no longer leaking oil, my dealership told me that I've got a problem with my rear mail oil seal as well. My paint job is terrible, and was when I bought it. The slightest pebble causes a chip in the paint, which then procedes to rust. The windsheild is the same. Although it never cracks, it's got enough pits to interfere with visibility in bright sunlight. My trunk leaks water and the seals around the windows aren't tight enough to keep the wind out (although I haven't had water problems there yet). To top it all off, every dealership that I've gone to has the worst jerks working for them! If I had some service with a smile, I'd be more willing to hand over my money to them! The shocks squeak as do the breaks. She's as sturdy of a car as every (no engine problems), but it's nice to have a working O2 sensor, or to be able to have the light turn on when you open your door (like it's meant to!)
