Dodge Neon Sport Coupe
Strength:
- Excellent HP rating 150HP (DOHC) 132HP (SOHC) - Price - Availability of aftermarket parts - Engine's response to modifications
Weakness:
- Resale Value I got this car used at 125,000kms from a Chysler Dealer. The car has now over 160,000kms on it. I personally liked these cars before I bought one. Mostly due to the performance & price ratio. This an excellent car to modify. I've added a few modifications in the year that I've owned the car. There are many aftermarket parts available for the neon...in show & performance. I bought this car as a daily driver & to modify. The car has never given my any trouble...and I feel that as long as you follow the maintenance schedule and the basic DO'S & DONT'S (most don't follow these)...these car will last. |

nice back seat
Weakness:
Pretty much everything else. I bought my 97 neon with 36,000 miles in 1999 from someone that I knew who was at the and of her lease. I felt comfortable purchasing the car from her because I knew that she had taken good care of it. Less than 1 year later, I had to replace the transmission at a cost of $1,600. A year and a half after that, the valve seals were leaking so bad that I was putting a quart of oil in everyday. I had the car repaired through Chrysler. Today, my oil light is back on again and the tail pipe is spewing blue smoke when I eccelerate. This means that the valve seals are leaking AGAIN. There is also some sort of strange popping in the front end when I turn corners and the exterior lights keep burning out. Bottom line is ...THIS IS A CRAP CAR! |

The interior room makes you feel as if you're in a much larger car...I also enjoy the fact that it has pretty decent pickup for an economy car...pretty sharp car as well, especially my wife's car, with the candy apple red and dark tint on the windows...instrument panel at night is also pretty impressive...I look at this car as a "baby intrepid", it looks almost exactly the same, just smaller.
Weakness:
As mentioned in a few other reviews, I have noticed a slight squeaking of the brakes when it has rained, for the first couple of stops...also, over your right shoulder, there is a slight blind spot, due to the way the car rises up in the rear. could have better gas mileage for an economy car Personally, I like this car...so far, I've had NO mechanic problems with it, don't have any problems with the ride (or lack thereof) and the CD player is decent for a factory model. Some of the reviews I've read have been disconcerting, but hey, I owned an escort before this car, and I drove it into the ground, and it wouldn't stop running. My wife and I have matching Neons, (mines is manual transmission) and we have had absolutely no problems at all, even here in MO, where we have some of the worst weather and ROADS in the country. Got a very good deal on the cars, and was treated like royalty at the dealership. I will, in all likelyhood, buy another Dodge product, thanks to the people at Landmark. Drove from KC to San Antonio, TX last week, and drove the car hard...I was very impressed with the comfort and ride of such a small car. also got the 10/100,000 warranty with the car, so maybe I'll be ok for the next nine years? Good car for the price!! Similar Products Used: Ford escort |

Reliable, dececent acceleration with A/C off, Cheap price for reliability.
Weakness:
Poor gas mileage (average 22 MPG), Slow acceleration with a/c on. Overall, my 2001 Neon has been excellent. When I first brought it home, (16,000 miles) the same night, the battery died, replaced my warranty. Since then, it has had the fuel sender replaced for a incorrect gas gauge, and it was stalling out at red lights. Took it to the dealership, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Since my warranty ran out at 36K, I havent taken my car to the dealership, and I perform my own oil changes, and the car runs perfect now. The A/C is really cold, and works well, however it kills the performance of the 2.0 SOHC engine. I must say the 2nd generation neons are much more reliable than the first generation. I have had no serious problems with my 2001 neon, it runs great, and starts every time I turn the key. I would recommend this car for a first car, great for highschool or college, or a small family, but it's no luxury car, however if you are looking for great reliability for a low price, this is the car. Plymouth Neon EX Coupe
Strength:
Great gas mileage. I can go 300-50km on one tank of gas in the city. Handles the road nicely. Starts easily in -40 weather. Seats come out easily in case you have to do extra hauling. Cheap to fix! Parts are easy to find at the wrecker's. Great sporty design - I get compliments on how sharp it looks even with the little parking lot dents. Looks great in Platinum.
Weakness:
Metal is thin and gets parking lot dings quite easily. I wish people in parking lots were more careful! Resale value. Nobody wants to pay good money for a Neon. I don't know why! It's a great car. I need to sell it for a minivan (pregnancy), otherwise I would keep it. This is an excellent car. I bought the car with the warranty just for peace of mind, but haven't had to use it at all. I've already put close to 30,000km on the car and it still works great. Features of the car: power mirrors, door locks, and sunroof, and manual transmission. The car is very forgiving to a first time manual driver! Very easy to drive. With regular maintenance, this car will go for a long time. I love my Neon! Strength:
Attractive car Good trunk space Relatively roomy backseat
Weakness:
Too many to name. Primarily poor quality, cheaply made cars. You'll get what you pay for. I was nervous about buying a Neon, but it's a cheap car that is good looking and so I took the risk. Big mistake. In the two years I have owned the car, I have replaced the belts, head gasket, transmission, brakes, tires and battery. I just learned from a reliable mechanic that I need to fix three of four struts, the steering mount, the timing belt, and the belts again. Currently not working are the air conditioning, the gas guage, the temperature guage--all of this and I have yet to reach 96,000 miles. I have not had problems with exterior paint peeling, which is the one main problem I have seemed to avoid. Spend your money elsewhere. The Neon isn't worth the trouble. |

My 2001 Dodge Neon has good brakes and as always a cold blowing AC. The 2.0 liter, single overhead cam engine generates a fast 132 horsepower!
Weakness:
In both my 1995 and 1999 neons the batteries from the factory never lived to be over 2.5 years old. Sorry to some of you other neon owners I fortunately have never experience bad head gaskets or anything else for that matter. In a nutshell my neons have never really experience many weaknesses. My 2001 Dodge Neon is my 3rd. Neon that I have owned. I love the 2nd. generation neon styling. The neon drives and handles better due to a newer tuned suspension as compared to the 1st. generation neon. It is quieter than the my 1995 neon. My 1995 neon as well as my 1999 neon were both driven hard on the interstate (2000 miles round trip) from Jacksonville, Fl. to St. Louis, Mo. several times. In a nutshell my 2001 Dodge Neon has a sporty look, a smooth but somewhat firm ride, a great sounding stereo and its a lot of car for the money! Similar Products Used: Not available |

Sqeaky Breaks Squeaky Doors Bad Gaskets Bad AC Leaks oil A loud Car! After reading all of the bad reviews for these cars, I am sooo glad I'm not the only one with problems. I have owned my POS Neon for almost 5 years and now has 115,000 miles on it and I have had problems with it from day one. I had to take it in like a week after I bought it because of a bad oil leak, I had the head gasket replaced, and I have had my breaks done, since they sqeak all the time!! I have had my fans replaced for my AC, my power steering belt replaced, my doors sqeak, the car rattles, it's loud, when I make a sharp turn it makes a popping sound under the car like something is falling off, my engine light has gone on twice, and the actually it is on right now!! The only thing I like about my car is that it has a good cd player, which I put in,I like the color, and the trunck space. Other then that I hate this car, and I paid way too much for it. I think that Hondas and VW are the way to go! |

Looks good, very zippy pick up, great gas mileage (about 32mpg)
Weakness:
Cheaply made body and engine. Unreliable Contant worry Before I bought this car I heard "those little neons will run and run". Wrong! Not sure if the 99 and older model was better made to last because I have a friend that hasn't had one problem with her 99. I on the other hand have had 3 cylinder misfire problems where my car was jerking all over the place. Although I followed advice and bought the expensive spark plugs, the problem kept happening. Was diagnosed last Friday with a rear main seal leak. Should cost me about $1500. At 67k that's ridiculous! Feels rickety to drive, not a smooth ride at all. The body... well you might as well be driving around in a tuna can. These cars are made to be affordable but not reliable. If you are looking for something lasting, look somewhere else! |
