Strength:

The seats are extremely comfortable and it's not hard to find a good driving position

Weakness:

The factory stereo sucks.

I'm in sales, so I practically live in my car. This car at 65,000 miles still feels and drives like it is new. It has good perfomance and still looks good even though the body style is 5 years old.

Strength:

Great looking car - Wish those who build the car could get together with the ones that design it!

Weakness:

Sloped front end catches every gravel from the road causing nicks & scrapes. Same sloped front makes it difficult to judge distance when parking. Disgusted with Daimler Chrysler not standing behind their product. Read the review, what do you think the weaknesses are...everything??!

Purchased 4/99. 6/99 it was back to the dealer for faulty window regulator & window motor assembly driver's side. 7/99 in for first service. 8/99 back to dealer for replacement of passenger side window lift motor. 4/00 in for first "free" oil change. 9/00 back to dealer for replacement of window motor on passenger side. 12/00 back to dealer for connector replacement due to fluid leaking from bleeder valve at radiator. 10/01 back to dealer due to transmission lines loose causing transmission fluid leak. 3/21/02 back to dealer due to passenger front door leaking water when raining & they replaced the jamb seal weatherstrip and replaced driver seatbelt buckle which was getting very hard to unbuckle. We are now at 29,613 miles. At 31,865 miles (just past the 30,000 mile warranty mark) 7/02 the gear assembly goes out causing bad clunking noise in the right front area of the car and a lot of play in the steering wheel. I was originally told this was a rack & pinion problem resulting in a cost of about $1200.00. I was fortunate enough to get the dealer to split the cost. Called Daimler Chrysler for help since I was only 1800 miles over the warranty, but got no help at all, only rude customer service people. When I picked up the car, it turned out not to be rack & pinion, but they had to replace the gear assembly - my cost $380.96. They never acknowledged they made an error on the diagnosis, I just caught it on the invoice. (By the way, this was a 5 Star Dealer...Ha!) 11/02 34,919 miles took to independent mechanic due to having difficulty starting engine who replaced cam position sensor. $109.84 5/03 38,760 miles took to same mechanic to replace brake pads. He turned front rotors & replaced pads $202.52. 5/03 (2 weeks later) back to mechanic for brake noise. He tries to turn rotors again & they won't due to "pitting out" Cheap metal is what I am told & they have to be replaced along with the pads they have ruined. $147.87. 5/3 back to dealer for a replacement of a seatbolt. Now the seat doesn't feel sturdy and I can sometimes feel it move when the car accelerates. 7/03 40,300 miles - Appears to be getting a bit sluggish in power and now looking for another car! Can't believe I bought something so cheaply made. Swearing I will never buy Daimler Chrysler again. I believe the parts for this car must have been bought 2nd or 3rd hand at a road side stand somewhere in Mexico!

Strength:

The truck is huge and has plenty of room for all our equiptment. The ride is smooth and "Cadilliac like". Plenty of leg and head room in the front and back seats. The car is very responsive and the V-6 provides plenty of power to meet our needs. Like the fact that this large size car has front wheel drive.

Weakness:

Would like it if the stereo controls were mounted on the back of the steering wheel, like on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Hard to judge distance in the front end since the nose slopes down.

I just purchased three 2004 bright silver Intrepid SE's for our Security & Patrol company here in Colorado. I love the look and style of the Intrepid. It is a beautiful car and I really look forward to driving it. The car really meets the needs for our business. It is a comfortable and easy handling vehicle.

Strength:

Sporty, feel like your glued to the road, ABS really saved me a couple times. I like to drive fast and 200 HP feels good.

Weakness:

Little noisy and the the crap stereo struggles to cover it up.

I like this car. Its sporty, fast, handles well and has lots of room inside and in the trunk. Aside from the minor recall issues and having to fix the driver side window (which was covered under warrenty) there hasn't been any mechanical problems. Its the most popular choice for sales guys on the road. I guess thats why you see so many for resale since its frequently on leased programs. You can probably get good deals on used ones. They have lots of highway miles.

Hey this car is the best i have owned all you that say dodge intrepids suck you dont know how to drive a dodge to the limit all i drive is dodges and i know what they want this car as all the power of a V8 in a V6 and around 230 in my stock 3.3 how many cars do you think get that kind of power and still get 30 miles to the gallon Know you all say the engines knock well if you took care of the injectors ran some fuel injector cleaner throught the gas and kept the valves clean you would never have a knock and run a fram tough gard oil filter and valvoline in it you engine will love you to death. And another thing make sure you got a good airfilter and bosch spark plugs plantinum plus 2 are the best and just drive the car and it will be there for a long time and as the car being bad they had someproblems but what honda chevy or any other brand and the worst being ford doesnt have its flaws.

Strength:

Sleek design. Good front on being a decent car.

Weakness:

Poor resale value due to blown engines.

DO NOT BUY A 1998/ 1999 INTREPID!!! I just bought mine two months ago from a private owner in my neighborhood, no wonder he was trying to sell it. Thought I was getting a steal and ended up in the pokie. Anyway, spent my life savings on it ($3,800 doesnt sound like much to some but it is to me!). Put 3,000 miles on it going to Florida and back and to my hometown and back. Ran great. Came back to my hometown and it started knocking, immediately pulled into a parking lot and had it towed to my family's mechanic. He took the engine apart and found that there was a problem but there was nothing he could do about it except look for a used engine for me. I AM A POOR COLLEGE STUDENT!!! I just spent what I could have spent on a years worth of school. From reading the reviews, Chrysler is doing nothing to acknowledge the problem. One lady has a class action suit against them, so if you are reading this, find hers and e mail her, if we all get together and fight this, maybe we'll get some restitution. If not we can all set our cars on fire and at least get some closure.

Looks,ride,backseat room.

Weakness:

Noisy engine,wind noise,underpowered engine,trunk too deep to reach things.Overall quality poor.Difficult to get into driver's seat..like getting into a camaro..not a full size sedan.Stunning depreciation...my car after only 7 months has depreciated over 35%!!!!!!!OUCH!!!!

I waited several years to purchase an Intrepid having been put off by the bad reviews i read here and elsewhere. It rides great, with a nice combination of road handling and comfort.Overall quality seems to really be lacking however.Fit and finish are not up to standard. Many interior pieces have noticeable gaps.Driver's position is good, but not as much leg room as you would expect for a full size car.Constantly have a piece of foam insulation in door jam pulling out.Dealer said nothing can be done.Rubber molding came out of door jam twice.Pooped it back in both times but just reveals more poor quality.Front right headlamp replaced after it condensed up and would not dissipate.

Room, A/C, and engine power.

Weakness:

Roadnoise, wind noise, and sound system is not as good as whats in my 99 Neon.

Nice looking car. I have had a few problems in the past. The water pump went out but was covered under warranty. Our dealer is quite good to us, and checks the car closely when we do take it in. The paint is flawless, and everything is clean on it. It's got about 88 thousand miles on it and still is running strong.
