Strength:

Looks, style, comfort, room, strong engine, cruse control,

Weakness:

Transmission, owner's manual, loud windshield wipers, plastic bumpers, not-cold-enough Air Conditioner, wheels are rusting a lot, to many "optional" features.

This 1999 Dodge Intrepid with 70,000 miles when I got it. It drove good for the first 10,000 miles, them the transmission blew when I was driving into my driveway. After I spent $2000 on that, the alignment kept screwing up and grinded my tires apart. Then the "Check Engine" light came on and I spent $500 trying to get that fixed. That kept coming back on and I don't know what to do about it. The when I tilt the steering wheel up, the four-way flashes come on sometimes and I don't notice it. The I come back out to my car and the battery is dead. When the battery dies, the car is based on electronics so the engine won't stay running. Then the idle started getting really high and the transmission would get stuck in 3rd gear. I has to drive it back to the transmission shop and get some speed and motion sensor replaced. These problems are minor then others that I have heard so I assure you, that these cars are not good quality and don’t buy them-- I mean it takes three people to change a tail light! The owner's manal is useless!

Please tell everyone who you know ,that want to purchase a dodge intrepid DONT DO IT for gods sake. This thing is a piece of crap.I used to own a 1998 intrepid se and did 220457 miles on it and no probs, and then it died of natural causes, ha ha.But the problem is not with that one. After that intrepid "something possessed me" get another on damn that was a big mistake. So i went out searching and found a 2001 intrepid se with 60000 on the dial.So what you say-well the car was in immaculate shape,at about 68000 and about 3 months i was happily driving down the road and i almost lost control on a turn.Well the rack and pinion was gone.I installed a new one myself at $500,compared to a repair shop bill $850.After that i started experiencing suspention probs. So i said i might as well replace everything,so i did .I got a lowering kit from INTRAX,new shocks and struts from KYB GR2, and a camber kit and slapped it all on myself.Nice you say-well so everything was done and im driving at 95 mph on the highway and feel the steering wheel shake like it was mad.It turned out it was the lower ball joint and outer tie rod end at 70000 miles that is unheard of man. Then the break rotors got warped ,so i got new ones from the dealer another$180.Then after about 73000 they got warped again .Now at about 75000 im experiencing rough idling,i still havent figured it out but it tends to drop slightly as if the engine wants to stall. All i know is that i will never get another intrepid again and i will let ayone wanting to know that it will be a big mistake.Friends dont let friends drive dodge!. And i mean it.

brakes sensors ENGINE 2.7

Purchased this car with 48,000 miles. Car ran great.Purchased a warranty, just in case. Had road noise, thought it was just tires,so I put new tires on. Still had road noise.Had some brake work done a couple of times, had to take it back because of a grinding noise in the brakes. Then the crank sensor, and the cam sensor both went out at the same time. This was covered under the warranty. Now with 77,000 miles, the motor is locked up.(2.7) Sludge build up in the engine.Car dealership said maintenance neglect,I say BULL.The dealership said warranty wont cover it, but he priced me a new engine for $8,500.00.

Strength:

big trunk, luxtury style driving, excellent suspention and good stong motor. seats are very comfortable and relaxing for long rides. front wheel drive. handles awesome around turns. still the number one car for nascar.

Weakness:

outragious blind spots while driving. due to long back window thats slanted. may consider having transmission problems in near future. sound quality on sterio could be better.

after owning this car now for over 3 months i still have nothing bad to say about this car. the first week i had it i noticed a slight trans leak comming from the front of the car so i took it in and they replaced the line an added new fluid. iam very pleased on how this car rides. it is very comfortable and roomy. the items i found that could be corrected is the following... disadvantages: 1. the sterio sound could be louder. it doesnt have that ultimate premium sound. but i rate it a 7 because its not distoreted and plays loud enough for me. 2. the 2.7 liter engine doesnt have the pep off the line like most 6 cyl should. but once you get it on the highway she rides nice. 3. has very bad blind spots in all directions of the car. need to buy the cocave small mirrors at the autostore to insure you wont hit anybody on either side. 4. dodge cars are known to have transmission problems after 60000 miles. so to avoid this problem make sure you change your trans fluid at least every 10000 to 15000 miles.. advantages: 1. very comfortable luxtuary stlye comfort. 2. number one car picked for nascar. 3. very nice handling and suspention. 4. great car for the money. 5. if your looking to buy this car i suggest you buy it in a sedan. 6. seats are ver comfotable and cushioney. 7. front wheel drive is one of the best designs for this car. should be easier to drive in bad weather. 8. ver big oversized trunk. nice an big for the adverage golfer. can put atleats 4 golf bags in there. plus folding seat helps out real nice. so these are just some of the things to read about the intrepid. all in all its a great car for the value. id recommend this car to anyone. its my car an i love it bottom line..

i purchased the car brand new and now the car has 61,000 miles on it and the 2.7l engine went out, now the dealership or the extended warranty company wants to pay because there is sludge build up, and i can prove the maintenance was done. chrysler has major problems with these engines and are not wanting to take care of their problems. it has been in the shop also 3 times for the window motors to be replaced and a knocking in the front wheels. i am very unhappy with this car and carl gregory

I'm upset! I have had my Intrepid 3 months and it is in the shop for "a squirrel or something bit into my transmission line and I have to pay 235.00 to have it fixed. The service man said this has happened before. Why dosen't Chrysler put a protection over line so this dosen't happen anymore? Everything under the hood

I wouldn't Tell my worst enemy to buy a Dogde. I have had my Intrepid for 2 months, for the 1st week ran good, ran so good i bought brand new rims and tires. Into the second week all hell broke lose. fan went. Then belt broke 1 week later the other belt broke. Then water pump went bad and now it starts and shuts off when ever and where ever it wants to, like it has a mind of it's own. On a scale of 1-10 Honestly, without exaggerating -100

Strength:

Nice body style. Very comfortable. Great milage. Smooth ride.

Weakness:

Excessive repairs. Engine/cooling issues.

Bought the car with 39,000 miles. Ran great until around 45,000 miles. First item to go was the radiator cooling fans. Replacement cost $300.00. At 50,000 miles, belt tensioner broke. Repair cost $250.00. At 55,000 miles, crankshaft sensor died. Repair cost $250.00. At 62,000 miles the water pump broke. Repair cost $900.00. At 70,000 miles the engine develop an oil leak (front seal) and the car began to smoke; badly! At 74,000 miles the transmission began to act up. At 76,000 miles the lifters began to make noise. At 82,000 miles I got rid of the car and bought a 2003 Toyota Camry LE. Couldn't be happier! Daimler/Chrysler has a class action suit regarding sludge buildup with the 2.7L engines and it's well deserved! Be very cautious when considering the Dodge Intrepid. Don't let the style and the comfort sell itself. It's very unlikely that I'll ever buy another Dodge product. Also, prior to letting the car go, the front end began to shimmy. Electric windows periodically worked.
