Won't run We bought this car new in 1999. Now at 88,000 miles, the engine is blown and Chrysler says they've never heard of a problem like this! They make me furious, because not only will they NOT stand behind their product, they LIE! This car is a piece of CRAP! Similar Products Used: None, and will NEVER purchase another Chrysler product! |

Dodge Intrepid
We are the owner of a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7 liter engine. We have changed the engine oil religiously, however were not organized enough to maintain each and every receipt. At just under 36,000 miles the engine oil light came on and we took it to the dealer for warranty work. They changed the cam sensor, and did an oil change and sent us on our way. A few months later the car began to skip. The mileage was just over 40,000 at that time. As it turns out the cam sensor was filled with sludge and went bad again. We changed the cam sensor and did an oil change, but the car developed a knock in the engine. We are now stuck with a $7,500 repair estimate and a car that has depreciated in value from a $23,000 original purchase price to $5,300 in 3 years, and that is only if we get the knock fixed. |

Nice looking.

Engine seems to die at or around 60-70,000 miles. There is engine sludge/gunk, and the engine seizes. I spent about $4,000.00 in sensors within the first five months. The fan has two and both went within a week of each other. I had a lot of problems with this car in the year and a half i have had it. Do not purchase the extended warranty unless you read the small print. They do not tell you that it only covers a few (maybe 4) electronic parts. The engine seized and I replaced 6-8 sensors in the first five months (costing a total of about $4000.00). When I called Dodge Daimler they told me that they would replace the engine if I had receipts from service stations, but since i had already put out $4000.00 in sensors, I had a mechanic friend do my oil changes for me (costing me less since the intrepid costs more to do oil changes on because of the engine block). Dodge said that having my mechanic friend do the oil changes does not count and they would not honor the replacement. So now, i am sitting with a 10,000.00 car in the service station who wants to charge me 7,000.00 for another engine. Similar Products Used: Dodge truck, worked well. |

everything This car was good at the begining but turned out to be a complete waste of money. I have two kids and can not afford to get another car because I still have to pay on this piece of crap. I changed the oil every 3,000 miles and took care of it like it was one of my kids. The engine blew at 100,943 miles. I had a Ford Aerostar Van that had 201,943 miles that I sold to my mother-in-law that is still going strong at 267,976 miles. She doesn't even change the oil that often or take very good care of it. Maybe we should all start making fun of Dodge-Chrysler car & truck before we do Fords. At least if something goes wrong with Fords, GMC, Chevy, along with a few others that are problems caused by there design or making they have the balls to admitt they are at fault and recall there f-ups. Dodge doesn't want to do anything about this problem that seems to be with alot of there 2.7 Liter engines. They just say that it was your fault for not keeping up on the maintence. They also try to charge you anywhere from $6,000 to $9,000 for them to put in a new engine that will has the same problems as the one you had to have fixed. This charge for a new engine is more then the car is worth. This doesn't make any typs of sense to me or alot of others out there. |

awesome looks..very strong engine but off the line is slow. excellent cruising car for long trips, very comfortable seating, over sized trunk is a plus, front wheel drive, great car for the money..
Weakness:
sterio could be a stronger sound quality, has tremendous blind spots be very careful changing lanes, may run into transmission problems at 60k or more due to dodge making a poor transmission that goes for all dodge cars an trucks. not just the intrepid. still no complaints yet. im puzzled reading all the reviews on this car i cannot understand the majority of people on here having such bad luck thats what it basiclly is. to this day i still have no major problems at all. the car rides and runs like a top. i love the stlye and performance out of this vehical. do not let the other posted ads from everyone fool you or intimidate you one bit. this car is worth every penny id recommend it to anyone that would want to buy one.. if you take care of your car it will take care of you. iv had this car fora very good while long enough to tell iff its a piece of junk or not. so take it from me if your looking to buy an intrepid then do so dont let anyone stop you. its a great car... Loud Windshield Wipers, AC isn't really cold and eats a lot of gas when turned on, Engine gets really hot, heater takes a while to heat up, blower is noisy, wheels are rusting a lot, brakes get stuck, won't keep an alignment on front end, steering is unsturdy, ABS is weak, air bag light comes on frequentley, CD player is only works when it feels like it, sterio and CD player sound bad, Fuel economy, power window on passenger side doen't always work, four way flashers come on when you tilt the steering wheel up, water pump is noisy. This 1999 Dodge Intrepid with 70,000 miles when I got it. It drove good for the first 10,000 miles, them the transmission blew when I was driving into my driveway. After I spent $2000 on that, the alignment kept screwing up and grinded my tires apart. Then the "Check Engine" light came on and I spent $500 trying to get that fixed. That kept coming back on and I don't know what to do about it. The when I tilt the steering wheel up, the four-way flashes come on sometimes and I don't notice it. The I come back out to my car and the battery is dead. When the battery dies, the car is based on electronics so the engine won't stay running. Then the idle started getting really high and the transmission would get stuck in 3rd gear. I has to drive it back to the transmission shop and get some speed and motion sensor replaced. The CD player doesn't work in cold weather. These problems are minor then others that I have heard so I assure you, that these cars are not good quality and don’t buy them-I mean it takes three people to change a tail light! The owners manual is useless! Similar Products Used: Misubishi Diamante |
