Strength:
Good looking, roomy interior and lots of truck space and reasonably good gas mileage in the city.Fairly smooth ride.
Weakness:
Very major and expensive repairs required. Most repairs can't be done by your backyard mechanic. I can't say enough bad things about this car. Problem after problem and I have only 100,000 Kms on this car and each more expensive then the last to repair. It has cost over $1700 in 6 months to repair/replace eveything from thermostat, water pump, heater motor, O2 sensors, timing chain and fixing flooding problems. Nothing is easy to repair and so it's very expensive every time it goes to the shop. And now I am having transmission problems. This car has had more tows than I've had taxi rides! My advise-STAY AWAY FROM THE INTREPID Similar Products Used: Mercury Cougar |

Looks, size - LOTS of room....almost as much as my Grand Cherokee!
Weakness:
Quality, power, gas milage, the white dials for the instruments is just plain ugly....BAD idea. Nice looking car, but the quality is concerning....I've had the car about 2 weeks and already a problem, the door locks are making a terrible buzzing noise when they lock - started with just the rear passenger side door, but now the drivers door is doing it! The power of the 2.7L is unimpressive and the gas milage is nothing to brag about....I'm glad I didn't buy this car brand new and only psent $5,300...I thought I was getting a great deal - but it's starting to look like I might have been suckered. |

Intrepid ES
Strength:
Very roomy, comfortable. Big trunk. Still on the original brake pads even though rotors are warped.
Weakness:
As listed above. 3.2 liter engine is not as quick as 3.5 but better than 2.7. 16" wheels make winter difficult. Seemed like a great value and would have been if I dumped it before the warranty expired. Poor build quality and poor materials catch up to this car. Everything from static on the CD player volume control to two failed transmissions (1 under warranty at 29k and another for $4,200 at 56k) plus warped rotors for as long as I can remember. All of the paint on the front has chipped off and pitted. Lots of little issues. You get what you pay for. Similar Products Used: 97 Intrepid, Taurus, 300M, Luminas |

Dodge Intrepid ES
Strength:
- power (lots of get up and go) - very roomy - great feul economy (city travelling mostly) - great sound system (6+ speakers, CD, AM/FM) - trunk is huge
Weakness:
- front end problems (described above) - with almost 200,000kms, starting to hear mega engine noise (typical Dodge knock) - transducer needs replacing, causes AC fan to run constantly - low resale value Where do I begin. First year we owned the car, we had to have the transmission repaired. Also within that first year, something malfunctioned with the blinker switch and while driving home after dark, I had no lowbeam headlights...only day-time driving lights and high beam...cops loved that (I've replaced it 2x in 5yrs - $260 each time for the part only). The front end is a constant source of irritation. At least twice a year we have to replace the stabalizer linkage kits & tie rod ends. I understand that these are interchangable with those of a Ford taurus. I feel soooo secure in that little fact. We have replaced the climat control unit recently ($200 from salvage yard in ON).We have the car serviced every 5000-6000 kms. This car has every comfort, best sound system Chrysler has to offer, power windows, dual climat control, AC (currently doesn't work), it will even tell me what direction I'm going in, what the temp is outside and how much gas I have left in the tank. However, with all of these computerized options come very expensive headaches when it comes time to repair. In 5 years of owning the car (finally paid for) we have spent over $3500 in repairs. This doesn't include what was done under the extended warranty we purchased. Overall, this is a very comfortable family vehicle, good fuel economy and has been reliable to date (3.0L, V6, 198,500kms and counting). Overall not a bad car, but I won't own another one. CD PLAYER. THE DEALER HAS PUT IN 3 SINCE THE TIME WE PURCHASED IT. THE FIRST ONE THEY REPLACED BECASUE IT WOULD GET STUCK BETWEEN TRACTS, THE SECOND ONE WOULD NOT CYCLE BACK TO THE BEGINNING. SO FAR I AM NOT PLEASE WITH THE THIRD ONE. ONE TIME I CAN PUT IN A COPIED CD AND IT PLAYS WONDERFULLY. THE NEXT TIME I PUT THE EXACT SAME CD IN, WON'T PLAY OR IT SKIPS. I KNOW SOME CD PLAYERS WON'T PLAY COPIES, BUT WHY WOULD IT PLAY IT ONE TIME THEN NOT THE NEXT. DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME. We purchased a 2003 Dodge Intrepid program car that had 22,000 miles when purchased. So far, no mechanical problems. One recall that the dealer fixed at no charge to us. (Still in warranty) We love the spaciousness. We traded a Honda for the Intrepid for the room and the two boys we have love the extra space they have. |

everything- from the front to the rear. Took engine apart myself and found out that the crankshaft was broken. I have no idea what has caused this. I changed the oil every 3,000 miles. This car has two many things going wrong with it and Dodge/Chrysler won't do anything about any of the problems. This is the last Dodge/Chrysler I ever buy. |

Roomy, smooth ride, descent gas milage, dependable when new.
Weakness:
Transmission, Breaks, Electric: after 60k miles things seem to be going downhill fast. This is the second Intrepid we owned. It is a program car purchased with 12k miles on it. We liked the first Intrepid but did have break problems. This car has 59k miles and the Transmission went for $2k repair. Electric locks are squeeling when locking, seems like a wierd electrical problem or something. This is the last Intrepid for us. |

Powerful and responsive engine, smooth shifting transmission, large cabin area, unsurpassed comfort and ample trunk space. Excellent value in all quadrants.
Weakness:
Lack of manual transmission. This car has been one of the most reliable and dependable cars that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It's a little big for a single guy but I have grown attatched to it's large and luxurious size. The 3.5 V6 is one of the best engines that Dodge has put out in a long time and has never left me stranded in the 3 years that I have owned it. I had to park it when I went on deployment last year (Military), and it had to sit outside in the Pacific Northwest winter for 7 months. When I came back, it started right up with no problems. I have had one recall on this car with the fuel line, and Dodge was more than happy to fix it free of charge. I have heard horror stories about Intrepids, but if you look, hardly any of them have the 3.5 engine. I also own a Porsche and I admit the Dodge will sit sometimes (What would you rather drive on a daily basis?). But when I need it for driving to go snowboarding or a long trip, it have proven itself ten-fold as far as reliability and comfort. I believe that any family with children would do well to add this car to their garage, even if just a low-priced second vehicle. The maintenence cost are low, and the car does not require any major servicing. If you change the fluids, belts, plugs and whatnot on a regular basis, this car will provide years of driving enjoyment for monimal investment. All in all, the Intrepid is one of the best cars that Dodge has put on the market for the average consumer. Similar Products Used: 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix. |

I like the sporty look. The interior is spacious, as well as the trunk. Electric adjustable seats are nice. The A/C seems to work fine & we get upto 110 degrees here in the summer. Simple operation of dash & interior. My last car was a Cadillac Catera & there was a button for everything.
Weakness:
Struts should last at least 70K, mine are gone at 38K. Dash is not very resitant to heat damage, its cracking. My wife drives this car. We put very low miles on it, only 38K so far. I have had several interior problems. The dash board has a 3 inch crack just above the glove box already. It is a black dash & we live in a hot climate. I do garage the vehicle though. The window controller has broken off. No engine problems. I found this site because I am searching for new struts. Last night I noticed that the rear struts are leaking oil on the garage floor. They are about $100 each. After reading some of the reviews I am going to sell or trade it within the next 2 years. It sounds like 60K is the best you can get out of this car. If any car is having major engine or transmition problems before 70K miles that is sad engineering. I would guess that Chrysler does not want to fix the problems because the profit on repair parts is huge. That is a sad commentary on where our Country is going. I am very meticulous & spend a lot of money on oil changes, etc. So if my engine has the same problems I have read here then I will be completely convinced that the engineering is flawed.
