Strength:

Extreme value; as my first car at age 18 it was by far the best price for what you get. Amazing handling on A grade temp. and A grade performance stock tires, great stereo system, nice looks, good size trunk, decent alarm system built onto the key. I also like the 36,000 mile prepaid maintenance schedule and the 36,000 free Daewoo priority assistance (which is 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week anywhere in the world). So for the first 36,000 miles I don't have to pay for AAA :) Engine performance is surprisingly good for the size.

Weakness:

Damn cupholders. Don't get me started on those, I've become an expert on holding a double big gulp between my legs :) Gas mileage could be better at about 25-30mpg

Overall I would highly recommend this car to anyone who doesn't mind having a car that nobody has heard of but saving a buttload of money in the process. The power is there, the handling is there, and the ergonomics aren't too bad. Damn those cupholders though. The guy that said "hey lets put the cupholders right below the head unit of the stereo" should be kicked in the balls repeatedly. Other than that the car is an amazing value, the service is great, and there is a hot chick that works in the dealership that I hit on everytime I get my car serviced. She wants me. You know it, she knows it, I know it. Anyway, a week after I bought my fully loaded 2000 Nubira SE my dad goes an one-ups me and buys a 2000 Leganza CDX. And my dad is old and had lots of money and still bought a Daewoo.

I've driven my parents' van and can't really compare them. It is a very nice change from driving my dad's old ass Oldsmobile (that smelly smog-inducing POS). I've driven my brothers Honda Civic and would compare almost everything, including performance, handling, and ergonomics to the Nubira, just that the Nubira is a much better value.

Model Reviewed: Daewoo Nubira CDX

Strength:

Handles great, excellent low-end torque gives great take off power, excellent stereo w/ cassette and CD (sounds great), ABS is standard, rides confortably on long trips with great seats, attractive styling for the $$,very roomy

Weakness:

Cup holders in the way of the stereo controls, windows fog up, no 5 mph marks on speedometer, needs lever on back part of seat for adjusting instead of knobs, engine noise loud inside of car especially when accerarating

This car is a high recommend. Everyone that is in the market for a new car should at least give it a test drive. You will be overwhelmed at how great the car drives, acceralerates, looks, and the features that you get extra that still come out cheaper than the competition. Lets hope this car stays in the US and becomes another Honda or Toyota for reliability.

Also test drove 2000 altima, protege, and sephia. No comparison as far as confort and bells and whistles for the money. This seems like a great car that is very fun to drive. I just hope it holds up well in the long-run like the altimas or civics do.

Styling, all controls are on two sticks on steering column, sound system, cargo room, warrenty.

Weakness:

So so gas milage, poor tires.

I paid 15k for my Nubira wagon. I took it in for it's 6000mi check up recently, they changed the oil, rotated the tires, checked all the fluids and even wash the car. The only problem I have had is with the Kumho Tires. I had a defective tire and because there are no Kumho dealers in my area(are there in your town?) they had to have it shipped in. The dealer send me to a local tire store and they loaned me a full size spare till I could get my Kumho in. I was impressed.

Strength:

Troublefree, non tiring engine. Drove from Fremont to Carson City, via Lake Tahoe, with a single stop of 15 min. No problem. The grip on the road is awesome. Much better than a 1999 Corolla LE..I own that too. For a long distance drive, my family, walks towards the Nubira CDX Wagon, without saying. It is really comfortable and stylish. The brakes are fantasctic. The car never swerves on windy day on a bridge. With Corolla I am scared of flying away and drown in the water.

Weakness:

As everybody has said , cup holders come on the way for a biggie. A locking button should have been provided along with the power switches. The water jet at the back needs improvement.

First the price. Sturdy and solid. Satisfaction from every aspect. My service dealer is different from the one I bought. There are some obvious reasons. I just wanted my Nubira to be taken care off in the right fashion.
Please test drive one before you decide on a new car. Don't worry about the company situation, they will overcome it, I am sure.

I do have a Corolla LE. It is very light and delicate compared to Nubira. Moreover, the buying experience of a Daewoo, gives a satisfaction which cannot be expressed.

Weakness:

The cupholders are bad but nothing else

I would rate it good. My friend bought the car and payed 14,000 dollars for it with leather and sunroof. It has very good features.

Strength:

Very cute car with a lot of room for all your passengers and large trunk space. The stock cd & tape players and speakers that the car came with are very nice.

Weakness:

I agree with everyone else, the cup holders aren't exactually in a great place.

I love the look of my car, and I love the looks are remarks that I get about it, it's a great looking car! I also like the fact that I haven't seen another 4 door Daewoo hatchback out there.
The help I get at Wilson Motors is expediant and they are very nice. The car drives nice, and I feel incredibly safe driving my family around in it. I definately recommend this model.

Strength:

Best lb.-ft. torque in its class, resulting in good acceleration. 4 wheel disk brakes. Comfortable seats with good support. Quiet interior and not so noisy engine, for a 4 cyl.. Car feels solid. Have not had it long enough to have anything go wrong, though I have an extended warranty.

Weakness:

Flimsy cupholders. Feel like they are going to break at any time. Ignition switch difficult to locate. Minor stuff.

The main reason I bought this car was because of its price. It was the last 2000 Nubira on the lot, with only 900 miles on it. I will not pay full price for any Daewoo. Not that its a bad car. I hear nothing but good rewiews so far. And there sure are enough on the road, for such a short period of time on the American market. Its just that there are alot more choices out there for the $13-$15,000 range, that have been around for a long time, with proven reliability. And the other day, I saw a news clip of the Daewoo workers in South Korea, being smoke bombed by the police during a workers dispute. Thats somewhat scary. Their company woes. But I was able to see beyond these issues. At this price I was able to get a new car, a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, and still lower my payments from the 96 Plymouth Breeze I traded in. A vehicle that I bought used, with NO WARRANTY. Big mistake. It was not so well built, due to the fact that Chrysler decided cut corners on these cars, in order to keep the price low. Right away I had to make repairs to it. Kept it one year.

It's been a year since I purchased my Nubira. I have driven it for 20,000 miles and it has been absolutly trouble free. The dealer has been great with the scheduled maintenance. I get 26mpg, which is so so. I do like the design and ergonomics. I'll submit my next report 2-02. If anybody would like to talk about their Daewoo e-mail me at dia55@aol.com.. Have fun.

Model Reviewed: Daewoo Nubira SX Wagon

Strength:

Very stylish design (I like 99's wagon more then 2000). Powerfull engine. Free scheduled maintanance for 3 years/36000 miles. Price.

Weakness:

1.Manual transmission's gears ratios do not match the engine. Ie after accelerating to 3000 RPM next gear is "too late" almost like you have to skip one gear.
2.Check engine light goes on and off for more then 1 year. Whenever I come to the dealer the light is off, so they can't really find out what's going on.
3.Rattling noises from all four doors. Some are gone after applying vaseline to plastic arches. Driver's door had rattling nut in the inner panel.
4. Squeaking driver's seat.
5. No aftermarket parts at all. I can't find roof rack for my wagon's roof rails. Dealer says there are none. What the roof rails are for?
6. There is just one dealer in Houston (about 1.5 hours drive). This crosses out the nice deal of free scheduled maintanance for the first 3 years. I better pay $15 for oil change close to my home then spend half a day getting a free one at the dealer.

Even after such poor rating I like MY car.
This car's rating really depends on what you are going to do with this car in 3-5 years. If you are going to drive it up to junk yard I'd say it's a very good deal. But if you are going to sell/trade it in, buy something else like toyota, nissan, honda, etc.
