Sebring LXi
Strength:
Lots of power, nice exterior styling.
Weakness:
Dash is made up of three or four types of plastic, and they don't blend well. It's hard plastic, too- Grand Am gives you an expensive-feeling soft-touch dash for $5000 less. Wow, the new Sebring finally has some balls! The original had the style, but no power. The Sebring is exactly the same as the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, which has 200HP (the Eclipse gets 205hp except for the California emissions version, which has 200 - all Sebrings get the California emissions). You absolutely must get the manual transmission. Otherwise save your money and get a Chevy Malibu. I have a Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo, and this is the perfect substitute for daily commute driving (I drive 30,000 miles per year, and I'm not about to waste my Turbo out on that). The Dodge Stratus R/T coupe is not as flashy (lots of chrome on the Sebring) but it is more sporty looking- in fact I like the body better on Stratus. Stratus also has the stiffer more sporty suspension- the Sebring has some body roll on hard manuevers. Similar Products Used: '01 Dodge Stratus R/T coupe- basically the exact same car, mechanically. However, Stratus has a stiffer suspension. '90 Nissan Maxima- not nearly as quick. |

My heater/AC doesn't blow out any air. Spark plugs are impossible to get to. Stereo dislpay is burnt out. Front right end shutters between 65-85 MPH. I am overall very happy with my purchase. I bought it used with 75,000 miles on it and have not had any major problems so far. Electronically there have been a few hitches, but I have not experienced the problems the other owners have dealt with. I would not however buy this car again. It is too expensive to repair and maintain. Similar Products Used: Chrysler lebaron. No contest Sebring wins hands down. |

Convertible that catches the looks
Weakness:
Suspension is very loose and "squishy". Lots of body roll and slipping front tires. Bought it used because it was a deal and it was a convertible. I like the power, but wish I had the 2001 version with the larger powerplant. Even so, it trashes my friends cars, and they all wnat to ride with me. Gave me the look of a luxury car for the price of my old Protege. The brakes squeal even after being cleaned out. Suspension is very squishy and there is a lot of body roll. Similar Products Used: Chrysler LeBaron: Much better. 10 years of technology has done wonders to the convertible as a whole. |

good looks. Great body style.
Weakness:
Break pads wearing out. Tires also. It is a beautiful car. I only have 17,000 miles on this car and have already had to change my brake pads. I also have this black tar substance coming out of the door panels into the door jams. Has been back to dealership twice to have this fixed. On second trip they put tape, yes, I said tape around the door to keep the substance of the door jam and me out of their dealership. The ball joint has also been recalled already. 4 Door LXi
Strength:
The LXi V6, power group with leather interior gives you everything you would want in a midsize four door, with style and for about $4,000 less then the Camery. It drives as smooth and solid as my mom's Lincoln Town Car.
Weakness:
I'm not sure the interior design is for everyone. A little over the top with chrome, wood grain and a touch of retro. It might bother some who are into only vanilla ice cream. Warrenty could be better I didn't even know this car existed. Sure, I knew Sebring made convertables and 2 door sedans, but after a disappointed test drive in an Intrepid, I saw this on the lot, drove it, and fell in love. And after buying four new Hondas in a row, and checking out the the 2001 car reviews, I made out on this deal. If you are thirty or forty-something, making that transition from small and sporty to comfortable and roomy, this is the car for you. But if you want to hang onto the sporty feel...get the RED one. Similar Products Used: In the same category as Honda Accord and Toyota Camery, but outshines them in power, styling and included options for their LXi versions |

Strength:
Ease of convertible function; great stereo; tunk space better than most; plenty of pick-up getting on highway (V6). Like location of cruise controls and center front console handy. Remote lock/unlock and trunk release a bonus. Comfortable seats even on long drives - cross-country.
Weakness:
Brakes weak, pads shredded and were replaced at 32,000 miles. Brakes also noisy for the first few times used after rest even after being replaced. Was looking for a nice ride without getting speeding tickets. This car makes me happy! Similar Products Used: 1964 Mustang: Rag top, noise factor and appointments have improved greatly. |

Sebring JXi Convertible
Strength:
The car is beautiful to look at and drives nicely. The seats are comfortable and the back seat is amazing for a convertible. I did some research when I bought it and found out it is THE roomiest convertible you can buy at any price. The $300,000 Bentley Continental convertible is ranked as a subcompact! The stereo system is good for a factory one, though the CD changer in the trunk skips over bigger bumps. IT handles very well and flat and rides well for the most part. Dash layout is excellent. The car was reasonably priced considering the features it offered. The quality of the top is excellent and seals out the elements extremely well.
Weakness:
The interior materials are on the inexpensive side. The cupholders are too forward and can't take anything tall. The headlights SUCK big time. I am replacing them with something brighter but still street legal. The engine is torque deficient and you can tell at part throttle acceleration. I find that leaving it in (3) instead of drive in town makes it much more responsive as it holds the shifts longer. It doesn't feel logey that way. The brakes are weak but I haven't had any nightmares with them. When the window is down half way and you close the door, it sounds like the framework inside the door is going to fall apart. The steering squealed loudly when I bought it, I took it back to the dealer and he remedied it without telling me what they did, but the squeak hasn't returned. I have found that the resale is terrible, which is good when you buy it but it sucks when you want to trade it in. Make sure you get a good deal when you buy it and plan to keep it for a while. Overall I like the car. It drives nicely, most of the time, but doesn't like to be pused too hard. The seats are comfortable. It is reasonably quiet for a convertible and it is especially pleasing to drive with the top down. The exterior finish was very impressive when I bought it and appeared to be well taken care of except for the repainted rear bumper. The paint didn't match the rest of the car. I would like to see how the 2001 Sebring convertible has addressed the shortcomings, ( lack of power, awful brakes and interior cheapness. It sure is nice to drive with the top down on a nice day though! I would recommend the car for anyone who likes a nice looking car with pleasant road manners. People who like to really drive their cars hard should look elsewhere. Similar Products Used: I had a LeBaron convertible before this and the interior, though smaller, was better finished and had a lot more power. The transmission was terrible, never shifted right and I had to have it replaced at 82000 miles. It was a fun car to drive with the top down, with the top up, it rode like a conestoga wagon and the top rattled a lot. |

Money Pit! Repair cost are high due to labor intensity and cost of parts. Replacement of brakes required WAY too often. Paint defects. Cheap interior. Very bad blind spot. Uncomfortable back seats. PLEASE think again before spending all that money! Read the warranty very closely, ask about repair shop statistics on this car. Also has a low resale value! If I could give less than 1 star I would! Chrysler has lost me for sure! The Worst move I ever made! Has cost so much money for repair of things that the warranty doesn't cover. Brakes constantly squelling--replaced rotor and pads at 24K miles and still squelling. Paint defects (Red car, big white spot on trunk when it gets wet.) Low front end (always scratches parking lot curbs). In the shop now at 38K miles, brought it in due to "catching"; ran diagnostic, showed the ignition wire was broken, the EGR gasket not on car, spark plugs and wires needed replacing. Cost $575.99 because tune-up is highly labor intensive, must remove entire cam to get ot back 3 plugs and wires. Left the shop and car stalled on me. Next day, took to dealership ran another diagnostic, showed the distributor bad, crank sensor bad, power steering fluid VERY dirty (how'd that happen???) and belts cracked. This all at 38K miles. Cost for repair $1375--------nothing covered under warranty! I Will NEVER buy a Chrysler again and I will spread the word! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Great handling, very comfortable and beautiful shape.
Weakness:
Acceleration not very good off the light. (1999 Model) - I test drove this car last weekend. I like the look of the hardtop better, so I tested that one. Everything was perfect! I loved the turns, the leather, the sound, the brakes.... but when I went to accelerate from the red light, it didn't go like I expected it to. I'm still impressed overall and will probably buy it within the next 2-3 months. After all, the one I want is up around $23k, so I'll wait for the 2000's to come out and get a good deal on a '99. |
