Model Reviewed: Chrysler Lebaron

Strength:

The best car I have ever owned. Her looks are second to none, great gas mileage (26-30 MPG), reliable to the point of going 110,000 miles thus far and only requiring one trip to the shop for a warenty repair (no cost to me). I do my own scheduled maintenance.

Weakness:

No cup holders - Not a big deal. Position of the electrical switches to lock the doors are in a bad location which allows them to be contacted by your knee at times. Lastly, the trunk could be bigger but that would ruin the looks of the car.

How many of you can say that you have driven your car for over 6 years, accumulating over 110,000 miles, and still have no problems. Burns not a single drop of oil, still has the origional brakes, and the engine has never required a tune up and continues to run like a top. In a bad mood... Not a problem... Put the top down and feel all you worries blow away. I intend to keep her for the rest of my life. After all, how can you put a price on happiness?

Strength:

Styling - It looks like nothing else on the road( if anything I see GM coping the Sebrings to make their newer Grand Am's) , Bang for the buck(fully loaded including leather, fantastic stereo, ..etc.),Suspension,Tires and rims(17")(expensive but way cool)

Weakness:

Engine - could have at least 30 more horse,Not enough afertmarket parts for it (things are getting better though)

I get so many comments on how good this car looks , but they all have no idea what kind ,or make the car is.(GM-Grand Prix are like belly buttons ,everyone has one ,Honda Accord,Civic,Ford Mustang ..etc the same, absolitly no originality (way too mass produced). This car handles like a dream with the 17" and low pro not to mention the kick ass suspension. It also has the best in factory stereo's,I have had this car for approx 2 years with no problems(bought it used with 60,000 miles on it) , put on a set of pads 1 1/2 years ago, I can't think of another car that gives you all this not to mention power everything and leather for the price you can buy one of these cars. The car ride is harsh only because of the tire and rims plus it is a highway runner - high end seed handling - 0 to 60 suck but top end thats another story

Strength:

Sweet look, women must really like Chrylser. Good enough power for the small V6 underhood. Personally find hit handles very well with new tires, no shaking or excessive wind noise. VERY quiet ride, scary quiet.

Weakness:

Need new rotors, pads, and rear wheel bearing as soon as I bought (dealer sucked, not really cars fault). Only true mechanical problem I've seen is I have to tap brake for it to click in park.

Overall I love the car. Done bout 3k in work since I have had it. But it drives smooth, shifts fine, and the body is perfect. One thing you can all agree on is Sebrings look awesome, plus paint doesn't chip/fade. Myself being 19 fully enjoy the car. Cheap insurance, good looks, good enough power. Perfect car for younger people. Seems like older adults expect too much for a $20k car. If you want power buy a z28 ss or a Mustang Cobra. As far as tranny problems, Chrysler has always been notorious for having shoddy transmission. I didn't know this till after I bought the car and probably will not buy another. For you out there who knew and still bout the car it's your own fault. But all and all sweet ass car, and the ladies dig it.

Appearence.

Weakness:

I purchased the car used. During the first month of driving I began hearing brake squeaking. After about a month it became unbearable, had the brakes replaced. Squeaking continued and I have now had the brakes replaced 4 times. Leaking ALL OVER. The car itself seems very unstable. Steering wheel shakes and steering is terrible.

I will never buy a Chrysler again. They have no customer service and have basically told me they can't help me. I am extremely upset that there has not been a recall on the brakes. (Mechanic claims this is the Sebrings personality)I hate this car and wish I could get rid of it.

Strength:

Looks sharp. Sleek body contours.

Weakness:

Engine not balsy. Car shakes noticeably. Wind noise. Leaks when it rains even though seals are good. Steering is lousy when sudden. Drives uncomfortable and does'nt perform like a sports car. Had to change entire steering system, brakes, entire air conditioner set-up (includes compressor, pump etc), batteries went way early,,,,,I could go on.

Absolute do not recommend.UNSAFE PRODUCT. Right now is in shop awaiting news from insurance. Reason. My wife started car went in reverse and for no reason car's engine started revving way high and out of control. Car took off on her so fast the brakes would not stop it so she turned ignition off, car spun around several times blew all the tires, hit street post. Air bags never deployed. My wife is so upset she does not want to set foot in this car again. Needless to say chrysler has lost a good customer as I usually purchase a new vehicle every every three years. Will never purchase a vehicle from this manufacture again.

Looks, V6 Engine, comfortable ride

Weakness:

Shakes miserably on bumps

Have been driving this car for a bit over 2 years and I must say have been extremely happy with it. Knock on wood I haven't had any problems with this vehicle. I faithfully change the oil every 3K and that is it (20K miles so far).

I must say the car is beautiful inside and out. It offers a nice, smooth ride on the highway but, if I am disappointed, it is with the "shaking" on local/bumpy roads.

I had always wanted a comfortable and this was a reasonable alternative to the overpriced eurotrash out their. Needless to say, I've had my fun and am now looking to trade in. I am disappointed though, that if you are looking to purchase this car be aware that the resale and/or tradein value on these cars are very low (hence the 2 star rating); but for driving enjoyment do not dismiss the Sebring.

Strength:

The car is great! Great leather interior & factory sound system. Good looking low profile tires and alloy rims(Org. tires lasted 57k). The shiny black exterior with gold accents is eye catching. The engine has fair - good acceleration and passing power(especially when dropping the car into overdrive). A very nice looking package. Gives off the essence of a sports car.

Weakness:

All that glitter is not gold and all the shine was just for show. I'm the type that supports regular maintenance and or repair, but on the real, the car has alot of maintenance issues that the manual failed to mention. I replaced dealer rotors and break pads (3X) all before 45k. Installer's fault or defective products, who knows? Eithier way thats excesssive and expensive. The alloy rims are easily bent even without the bumps and replacing one caught me at $250! It seems that once the rotors go you never get that smooth ride back. I've been shook/shaking/rattled thank God, the car hasn't rolled. Alot of noise that cannot be found by the dealership service dept., but alot of money spent in their search.

My driver and passenger external door panel moldings (the panel that the Chrysler logo is on) both have fallen off and been replaced (4X). According to the dealer the doors are to heavy for the molding. I was happy to finally see the recall letter for its repair.

Still riding at 73k and anticipating the 75K extended warr. closure I've experience yet another Chrysler trouble. The trasmission coolant line has burst and is not covered under the Service Contract. I now began to feel the rush of big out of pocket repairs. Got it fixed some $350 later the trouble returned less than a month later. According to the dealer the trans. coolant line is metal and only breaks if shifted or moved. No surprise seeing the car shakes and rattles when braking/idled/and at high speeds (70-85mph). They patched it with a rubber hose.
Now the acceleration is inconsistant and on occasion the car looses rpm's and shuts off when idled. Taking it back to dealer to review again.

Replaced interior drive side support molding (the molding supporting the window/door lock controls). Surprised it to was not covered under the Ext. Service Agreement. The thermometer sticks blowing cold air when needing warm/hot air and it's not covered. So another $65 was paid.

Would like to get rid of it, but the car has a horrible trade in value. It seems each time I speak about the car now repair money follows.

Regular maintenance: Oil/tire/transmission changes/fuel injection and radiator flushes ... $20-85ea

Excessive repair: Front-rear brake pads and rotors/ defective door molding/ defective thermometer/ defective trans ... $65 - 350ea

**** For once talking about the troubles is . . . Priceless!!! ****

** (2) For excessive repairs
** (3) For the statement "It looks so well?"
