Brakes

I must have a different car from everybody else! I bought this car new about 5 years and 90,000 miles ago, and would buy another without a second thought. The brakes did wearout too fast until I had the whole front brake system re-done at 75,000 miles. Since then they have been great. The original Michelin tires were noisy, bumpy and lacked adhesion, as many Michelins do. I replaced them with Nitto Extremes and the car is quiet, smooth and corners great. The top is tight, with no wind noise, and the only leaks are tiny drips after it goes through th car wash and the water hits it from unnatural angles. It has required very little in repairs or maintenance. In fact, I'm still on the original plugs. Power? It puts out more than a horsepower per cubic inch on 87 octane fuel; what do you want? Best of all, it is as much fun to drive now as it was 5 years ago!

Strength:

It has a nice sound system and it is a very attractive car.

Weakness:

I've had the brakes changed 3 times since I've had this car and there is a slight squeaky sound like the belt is loose or something. And the passenger side window is off track when you hit a bump it sounds like it is going to fall out and break. Then the seats are too low. And every bump you hit it sounds like the motor is going to fall right out.

I've owned this car for a year now. And I didn't like it the third week since I purchase it.

Strength:

The sound system is nice. I like the leather interior. It's quite roomy,with plenty of back seat leg room. I like the way it looks, everyone always says they "love my car".The top drops easy.

Weakness:

I got it used, and figured it was already broke in (20k miles) but then the breaks needed changed. Then the automatic speed sensor went out in it. Now it doesn't like to shift into drive, the only way I can get it shift is if I totally romp on it and get the RPMs up in the first few seconds of take off. The a/c quit working. When it rains the top leaks. When you raise or lower the windows at night it draws so much current that the lights dim. It makes horrible noises when turning.

If I wasn't having so many transmission problems I would really like it. Most of the problems aren't really that bad, but I would never buy another one.

Strength:

Stylish looks and nice drive.

Weakness:

At 30K miles, needed to replace brakes pads twice and repaint my trunk hood because of paint fogging. At under 55K miles, had to replace the head gasket due to oil seeping into the coolant. Needed to flush out my system several times. Then that led to A/C coolant problems where I had to replace the core unit. Still having loud steering noise and squeaking brakes. The convertible top is slow to retract and cover. In addition, there are leaks at the corner latches. The side door panels are very weak and can easily get dented with minimal effort. Other than that, I still hate this car!

Read the weaknesses and you'll know why not to buy a Chrysler ever! Don't try let the salesmen convince you to buy the extended warranty, it never applies to your problems that need to get fixed.

Big American-made convertible. Holds 4 comfortably. I hear a lot of problems with this car. I guess I must have gotten a good one. 70k miles and it's never been in the shop except for body work. Definately an under-rated vehicle.

Weakness:

The interior could have been made of better materials.

Nothing but good times in this sleek ride. Highly recommended for a family car. Room for the kids, but top down fun. Good for younger people like me. Not being a sports car keeps insurance down. Has a huge trunk, especially for a convertible. Car runs like a dream with 70k miles on it. I've taken it 1200 miles in one day and and she didn't even flinch. This isn't Chrysler's fault, but not many aftermarket parts available.

Strength:

Good looks;
Easily operated power top;
Roomy interior and trunk;
For all you get standard on this car, it's a good deal compared to what other similarly equipped 4-seater convertibles cost;
Geez, I just really like everything about the car.

Weakness:

The brakes - started sqealing almost immediately, and had to replace pads and get rotors turned at 35k. I am used to brakes lasting a lot longer.

This alarm horn that keeps dying on me whenever I go through water is annoying. It always dries out and works perfectly in about a month, so it's just a nuisance I have gotten used to.

We purchased this car new in '98 and still love it. Presently it has 52k on it and is still performing wonderfully. I have read the negatives about this car, but the '98 JXi for us has been great (maybe '98 was when they got all the kinks out). It is top notch in the looks department, the cloth top has never leaked and works smoothly, the tires handle well, the power is more than adequate for us, the leather interior is comfortable, it is loaded with all I could want & more, the sound system is great even top-down, the trunk is quite large for a convertible, and the back seat does indeed hold 2 adults with ease.
We have had some small problems with it, such as the alarm horn will consistently "muffle out" on me when there's a good rain; the top needed to be adjusted so it wouldn't pinch (covered under warranty, now no problems); the cupholders are useless; the brakes don't last long (replaced at 35k, but have done well since).
These problems were/are not significant (although disappointed in brakes), and do nothing to deter me from giving it high marks. I love everything about our car and would recommend it to anyone interested in a good looking, easy to operate convertible that can hold backseat passengers and all their luggage, too.

Strength:

The Sebring convertible is VERY stylish!
Even though the car is not a performance car it can and will go! I have glided mine to over 100 MPH!!! (which is NOT my fastest)

Weakness:

Have had it in the shop for some repairs all under 30,000 miles -- the driver's mirror system had to be replaced. Tune up when recommended at 60,000. Wheel bearing and motor mount went. Convertible top needed aligned several times and the transmission "thumps" when changing the automatic gears (reverse, park, drive, etc).

This car is more for style than it is masked for massive performance.

Before I purchase a car I ALWAYS see what it has and can handle. I admit, I have a lead foot and thrive on speed and performance. I highly agree that the Chrysler Sebring is not a performance car, however it can reach excessive speed (I can vouch for that!!). My husband is GREATFUL that I chose this 6 cylinder instead of the Mustang V-8 (he gets leary when I drive our van, which is a V-8.

Re: mechanics of the vehicle: WAY WAY WAY too much goes wrong with the vehicle at an early age. I don't expect to put a lot into a vehicle, other than routine maintenance, until the car is at least 5 years old or more!

Re: performance. The consumer has a right to purchase a car with a higher performance after all, that is why we, as consumers, test drive vehicles. Instead of driving the car home blindly.

Would I purchase another Sebring? YES, IF the performance is increased! I would LOVE a V-8 or V-12!!! VVVVVVRRRRRRMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!! In the meantime, I am content with my baby! :-)

Weakness:

bad sharp turns, low 0-60 speed, brakes!

I just read all of the reveiws everyone has submitted and it seemed to me as the car went into the later year models it became worse in performance (see the 95 lxi reveiws) I have driven this car for about 40,000 miles and have not had 1 engine problem, the brakes on the other hand! I've had to take it to a repair shop twice to get the brakes fixed, it sometimes scared me to drive the thing. All in all this is a woderful car all the less. I've had numerous comments on it, and it hasn't let me down yet! Good car.
