Strength:

I have the 3.5L V-6. Bought it about a year-and-a-half ago from the dealership for 12 grand. At the time, it had 88,000 miles and was loaded. Leather, all the power and electronic options. Sure did enjoy it. Gas mileage was about 17-22 (I don't recall exactly). Very roomy interior (my wife and I are both 6'0", and we fit comfortably in either the front or the back). We also just recently had twins, and find that we can put two car seats in the back plus have room for an adult between them (nervous new parents). Nice cargo capacity. Good radio, good controls, good power - although it seemed to get "mushy and squirrelly" when hitting puddles at speed.

Weakness:

For a good long time, there weren't any, then we started having problems with the tranny. It would down-shift a couple of gears and then stay there until it had been turned off and cooled down (a couple of hours). Became unreliable for long trips. Started having transient and unpredictable problems with overheating. The mechanic said the tranny needed to be overhauled or replaced - due to some shims wearing out. Said it was a common problem... $2000 to $3000 repair cost = I'm trading it in. Trunk lip could be lower to increase size of baggage you're able to stow and make it easier to get in/out. Rotors seem to warp easily - told by the mechanic it was a common problem. Had them turned three times, decided to live with the chatter. Had a problem with it running rough - mechanic says timing. Ended up replacing "distributor" (or whatever that thing is now), wires and plugs... ouch. A chevy V-8 it ain't.

Overall the car has been a good one, and we have enjoyed it alot. Because we are bigger than many, we find it hard to find a car that truly fits, and this one has. It has good power, comfort and features. The wife took a minor hit (rear driver's quarterpanel) and was very well protected with minimal damage to our car, and a good bit to the other driver's (hahaha). Teach them to run a stop sign.

The only drawback has been mechanical. If Chrysler could resolve some of the consistent engine/transmission problems it has faced, I'd consider purchasing another one. But in it's current state, I am not comfortable going long distances in it - and that's a drawback for work, and for the wife (and two new babies). Because of that, it's time to get rid of it.

Many rental cars of similar size (business trips) made me appreciate it that much more. Not too many I'd trade it in for, except the quintisential Nissan, Toyota or Honda.

Model Reviewed: Chrysler Concorde LX 3.3

Strength:

I am the proud owner of a 1996 Chrysler Concorde. It has taken a beating, 87K in less than 5 years of ownership. Terrific accleration even with my 3.3. Smooth shifting, comfy ride.

Weakness:

Electrical system is getting a little eccentric. Tranny is hesitant to downshift when gas is applied. Other than that , the car is in perfect shape.

My chrysler gets abused. When my parents gave it to me in June 2000, it had 72k on it. I have put 15k on it since then. The only other problems is that i need to have the bushings replaced. Its a costly job and i am a poor college student, so i put up with the popping noise and the traction control is rendered uselss in ice (the car just pulls to the right). Luckily, Chrysler thought to put an on off switch. I would reccomend this car to anyone who does alot of highway cruising. last sememster i was commuting from York PA to the NYC area at least once a month. The car has plenty of power for assertive NYC driving, and it feels like it is made to be driven at 80 on the highway (as the NY, NJ, and PA police will attest to). The top speed i have attained is 110, 3 times. First on W. College Ave. outside of York City PA. Its the crime capital of York but it turns into a straightaway farm highway a few miles into the county. I also attained this speed on I-97 in maryland, dueling with a sh*thead in an audi. Strictly road rage, in retrospect it was real dumb. And i have acheived this magical speed at the South George St. (exit 5) exit of northbound I-83 in south york. I love the chrysler. I am about to take it off the road for the summer in favor of an old Jeep Cherokee that i intend to kill by the end of the summer. But come fall the chrysler will return.

My families other cars are a 2000 VW Passat and 93 Saab 900. The saab is awful, it was a lemon when we purchaced it. The vw is great, but we still perfer the chrysler on long trips, its more comfy and stays between 75-80 just as easily as the VW

Strength:

Lots of features at a low price. Roomy. Styish. Reasonable re-sell value.

Weakness:

Lack of quality and poor realiability

I purchased the 1997 Concord new at CAD$26,000. A fair amount of options for what I paid for the car. The gas milage was Okay as well. Fairly good ride.
The first year was great without any problem at all. I had a lot of problems/breakdowns during the second and third year of ownership - steering gear, power steering pump, water pump/timing belt, battery, thermostat, 3 times light bulb burn out, rusted rotor at 18,000 miles, EGR valve.... Most of these were fixed under warranty. The replacement of rotors costed me $300. Year four was problem free!
I went through a period where the car was towed in every three weeks and I was really mad. I told Chrysler that I wouldn't buy another Chrysler car if I had to pay for the rusted brakes (only 15 months use since new). They blamed it on the snow and salt in Canada.
I traded the Chrysler in for a 2001 Nissan Maxima after 52 months (56K miles). The re-sell value was Okay. I got $12,000 for the trade-in. Will I buy another Chrysler? I don't think so!!!

Strength:

Great styling, room, ride, and fuel economy for such a large car.

Weakness:

Horrible resale value because of Chrysler's continuing rebates which seem great when you buy it, but they kill the resale value. Quality of this car is questionable. Too many rattles, non working power door lock, revving engine for a 5 month old car.

Beauty is only skin deep. I have owned my Concorde LXI for 5 months and have mixed emotions about it. The styling, ride, and fuel economy are what attracted me. But, the rattles, revving engine, and AWFUL depreciation are making wish I hadn't bout a Chrysler product. In just 5 month my car which stickered for $29,000 is worth $15-17000 as a trade in. NEVER BUY THIS CAR NEW, BUY a 1YR OLD MODEL.

***DO NOT BUY THIS CAR*** spent over $5000 in repairs in the first 3 years of owning this car. have replaced the transmission 3 times, AC is always messed up, drivers seat broke, computer related problems, paint chipping off, leather sucks, headlights went out...so many things i cant name them all. This car is cursed and posessed by demons straight from the pits of hell. Stay away from this car.

If you are stupid enough to buy a '94 concorde, remember...i told you so.

that junt ride so good and easy to flex on the highway
got a whole lot of room and a big a** trunk
good on gas and runs real quiet
Woody Wood all through the interior with the blowed out brains

Weakness:

all I dislike is that it came with a cassette player
tends to shake a little when changing out at high speeds

Strength:

Looks great, accelerates well when transmission works properly.

Weakness:

the tires were worn down to nothing in the first 6 months, even though dealer kept re-aligning the wheels. We do not "hot rod" the car by any means. The Transmission had some problems (it didn't really like shifting into the nexy gear). The steering box and assembly were replaced after the car almost went out of control at highway speeds. The trunk release broke, the check engine lights frequently light up, the rubber seals around the back doors are falling off. We bought the upgraded Infinity stereo and the front speakers keep blowing. Luckily everything is under warranty, but it's a hassle to keep going back for trans. and steering problems. This all happened within the first 1 1/2 years of us owning the car. it only has 34000 miles on it.

I paid $26,000 for this crappy car. Should have never bought a Chrysler, it's a piece of garbage. I recommend that no one ever buy a Chrysler product!

Strength:

Spacious interior, looks amazing, accelerates nicely, confortable

Weakness:

Air conditioning failed, transmission was terrible, front of car shook while driving, brought it in and they couldnt fix it. this was in the first six months and the car was brand new. Many electronics failed, including lights on dash

Out of all the cars I've had (Toyota Corolla, Saab 900, Isuzu Trooper, Honda Accord, Dodge Intrepid, Infiniti I30, Volvo S80) this was by far the worst. The A/C had problems from day one, but it was covered in the warranty. It looks nice, but looks don't mean anything. Go with the Dodge Intrepid.

Strength:

The Chrysler Concorde is a very beautiful car with a smooth ride and a spacious interior. This car is great for a family.

Weakness:

I had to have air conditioning worked on two summers in a row. Recently I paid $1500 for transmission repair. It seems to break down on me every few months and it only has about 70,000 miles on it. Just today I noticed that the automatic locks on the doors and trunk are opening by themselves.

I bought the car used from my in-laws and paid $4000 (which is what the dealer offered them.) I didn't pay much in the beginning, but I have certainly paid for it in the end! I would not recommend buying a Chrysler unless you plan on trading it in after a couple of years.

I honestly had better luck with my '90 Hyundai Excel (which was the car I replaced this one with two years ago.)
