The power, the looks, the stero system...I get people telling me all the time that it sounds like I have subs and they can't believe its a factory system!! I love everything about it, but the problems!
Weakness:
I baby this Monte Carlo like no other, and its new just like the last one and I am already have problems with it! I started off with an 01 Monte SS, nothing but trouble. Airbags in the seat replaced 9 times, repainted 4 times for peeling pant, and two sets of ground effects. Told deal thats it, then he gave me a new 02 Monte SS. As of now the car has 3369 miles and the transmission just went out. What is it with these cars?? I love everything about them, but sometimes I wonder. Strength:
Damn good reliability (so you jap lovers know what you can kiss), and swift for what it was given.
Weakness:
Performance parts are hard to find since most people don't hook these up. But more and more parts are becoming available all the time. The only package I didn't get with this car is the sports appearance package, which I just didn't think was needed. This car already looks beautiful and sporty. And for only having 200 hp and 225 torque, it moves faster than you think. I have never had a problem with it. I am trying to break it as a matter of fact. I want to add performance parts, so I want whatever is going to break to break already, but it's just taking the abuse too damn well. She loves it! |

Strength:
The handling and smooth ride. The sound system is great and with the auto volume, even with the sun roof open, you get great sound.
Weakness:
The only weakness I could find is the Leather Drivers seat "with" the side airbag. Design defect with them that the factory will not fix or even desires to address. The problem has been on going for some time without any solution. The car is a fun car to drive. It has the power you need to get going as well as the looks to go with it. However, If I had of know about the design defect with the front drivers side airbag, I never would have purchased it. I have been the car the dealership 9 times for this problem and it is still not fixed. GM has came up with 2 fixes long before we even looked at the car and they do not work. With the seat being torn apart so many times now there is a question that the airbag will or will NOT deploy. GM's solution is to give around a $1300 cash check and we drive around a car with a six inch hole in the side. This is even with being told that 40 to 50 percent of the Chev. Monte Carlo's coming in for warranty work have at least one of the "fixes" performed. This is not just in the Salt Lake area, it is from what I can tell all around the nation. ( I called various dealerships in various states ) My review is: Great car, but do not buy one with a Leather Seat and Side Airbag unless you want a certified Lemon. Toys, Toys, and more Toys. This car is loaded and fun!
Weakness:
I wish it were a 5 speed with about 250 bhp. I plan on adding the SLP exhaust and SLP cold air intake. I haven't had the car long, but I'm very impressed so far. The ride is ultra smooth with a decent amount of power. I traded in a '99 Wrangler that was tricked out pretty nice, but this car has way more options! My friends can't believe I got rid of the Jeep, until they sit in the Monte's heated leather power seats and we play with the voice activated Onstar. I also got the extended warranty so if anything breaks it will be covered. expensve parts need replacement often, expensive to maintain i bought the car in hollywood,fl and it costed 15000 dollars with finance charges and it only had 39,903 miles and i bought it in 5/11/00 and from that day i couldn't fix this squeak in the back and i had to replace the alt. the struts all around the strut assembly in the back and the blts and hoses etc. and the parts are very expensive. i swear i will not buy another monte unless it has a 3.8 because the 3.4's are nothing but trouble!!!! Pick up, power, looks; only one other in the area where I live so it is unique.
Weakness:
Everything is jam-packed in under the hood of the car (and everywhere else for that matter) that it is very hard to get work done to it; as a matter of fact, one repair shop refused to work on it ( to replace a timing belt) and another was very hesitant. Fell in love with this car from the moment I saw it! On the outside, it looks sporty, yet not overdone. On the inside, very nice and sporty, yet comfortable. Have had this car for about 1 1/2 years now (had 75,000 km on it when purchased) and have only had problems recently. Fuel pump went a couple of weeks ago. While putting new brakes on, the heater hose sprung a leak; which if you've ever seen one, is metal and already curved all over the place, making it nearly impossible to put a new one on. Basically, though, this car is great - love the performance. Similar Products Used: not really similar, but a Chev 1972 ElCamino |

Speed, sleak, sharp it's comfortable.
Weakness:
Only 1 cup holder, rear seat entry and egress. Winter time the passenger side windshield wiper doesn't clear as well and I have replaced the blade thinking it was that. Need better front window defrost. I think it will help with the wipers. Same thing happened in my '98 LS I can't complain. I love this car. I am currently looking into some SUV's only for the room with more people. You tend to feel squished in the passenger seat especially for larger people. I'm kinda sad thinking I have to give it up. It's currently got 33,000 miles and I just replaced the rear brakes, rotors are next which I'm sure is only due to regular wear and tear. I totally love this car. Lots of power, quick pick-up, very roomy - even in the back - esp. for a 2-door, comfortable seats, stylish,
Weakness:
Repair costs. I drive this car fairly hard but still the repair costs are much more than should be expected. In 2 1/2 years (car now at 97,000 miles) I've replaced the breaks, shocks & struts, alternator, timing belt & pulleys, power steering pump & hoses, fan belt. Car is very difficult to work (high labor costs) on so costs have ranged from $200 to $800+ for each individual repair job. I take very good care of this car - regular oil changes, etc. and have it looked at whenever 'it just doesnt feel right', which is actually quite often & there's always something to be fixed. I've been driving it for months now with transmission problems. I can rarely get the car to shift into 4th gear. This does not seem to be a major problem when I'm driving - pick up & performace are still excellent, but I'm just waiting for it to go out or just as bad - the engine because it now always runs at 3000rpm instead of 2000 at normal speed. I'd get it fixed because I still love this car, but with all the other repairs I've already paid for its just going to have to wait. I got an awesome deal on this car about two and a half years ago at a repo. auction. Purchased it for $5500 with 75,000 miles. I loved the car from the moment I bought it - very nice sporty design, but not too showy. I love the pick-up the car has - beat about any other car I've met at a stoplight and is absolutly tops for quick passing even at high speeds. The slate gray leather seats and excellent factory speakers just top it all off. Similar Products Used: Occasionally drive a '97 Dodge Ram, '97 Mercury Mountaineer, or '97 Pontiac Grand Am. None of them compare, I still always opt for my Monte. |

Strength:
The roomy interior for a coupe, looks nice, the factory stereo bumps well.
Weakness:
Undependable, that blind spot IS a problem, sits so low, watch out for the doors they can ram ya, the handling is alright, power windows are a joke the driver side rolls down automatically by tapping down but doesnt go up by itself and the passenger side does neither. Should have a wiper blade for the back window. No low fuel light is strange. And that damn service engine soon light is always coming on and off, it should be more descriptive. On the outside it looks smooth,on the inside it is surprisingly roomy, i regularly fit 5 people in it. The car shocked me by its power. I fell in love with this car...for about a week. It seems like something new is always breaking down on it. I bought it from this mechanic/dealer, and he said everything was fine. The first week the temperature gauge was running laps, from 120 one second to 400 the next, it was a broken thermometer. Not long after that the manifold intake gasket blew, that aint cheap. Since the car sits so low, i went over a pothole and i cracked the underneath bumper. Right now something is messed up with the transmission (big surprise going by other posts) where the car doesnt think its in park, so it wont let me turn the key to take it out, it shuts off but just doesnt turn all the way. oh yeah my a/c isn't working and summer heat sucks. Basically, this car has me paranoid every time i drive it. Similar Products Used: 88 buick lesabre, similar power and size |

Powerful and attractive... always been a halmarks of Monte Carlos, this lives up! I just wish it was rear wheel drive
Weakness:
None really... the car has had it share of oil changes. only real issue i have is the tire pressure with the alloy rims... but i hear thats an inherant flaw of alloy rims I bought the car when last year and its great ever since, this is the kind of car anyone can appreciate. After owning a 1980 Monte Carlo and upgrading to this puppy my love for chevy only increased. Ever since day one i have babied this car, i got it with 38,000 miles on it and it was taken care of to begin with so it had absolutely no problems. this car has power and style, I frequently get compliments on my car and it is completely stock! I have recently had to share the car with my mother and she really hammers on the brakes but the car takes it really well (her 91 explorer went through brakes like crazy) in fact she doesn't want to give up my car now! she likes it that much! the only major work that had to be done were replacing the roters which was only $300 not bad for a car thats over 3 years old. when i'm in the car i feel very comfortable, the handling is superb, and the stock Bose stereo is better than the set-ups people spend thousands for. I'm in love with the car and look forward to newer generations! Similar Products Used: 1980 monte carlo... |
