Strength:

The Z34 has better than average power and with a K&N air filter the mileage holds around 18/28. Leather, CD, Power Seats, Cruise, and AC come cheap.

Overall I give my car a 5 on a 1-10 scale. Bought it as a GM certified with 50,000 miles from the dealership. I had already spoken with the first owners and they swore there were no problems with the car. Within a few months I noticed a thousand different rattles in the doors, dash, and molding. Fit and finish quality is very poor. Within a year the brakes and rotors were shot because Chevy uses extremely thin rotors for a 3500lb car. Even with aftermarket drilled and vented performance rotors the braking isn't perfect. After a year the transmission began to build slack between the gears, especially at higher speeds. I don't recommend the Monte Carlo or any other GM product. As an international economics student I've studied in depth General Motor's policies. It is the worlds biggest outsourcer of auto parts. GM parts are made from Mexico (all engines) to East Asia, and this drastically reduces the quality control within the company. My father drives the top of the line Chevy Silverado for a company truck. He continually has problems with the brakes, catalytic converters, and I've noticed the 454 runs very rough and has poor gas mileage. It's amazing that GM still sells more cars and trucks in America than any other auto company. Consumers are stupid, stupid, stupid. I will never buy another GM product. My aunts and uncles that drive Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus never have problems.

Strength:

pick-up, smooth ride at high speeds, handleing, comfortable interior, good looks, all the options available are in the car

Weakness:

uncomfortable seat belts when the seat is up to high

I love this car! It has great handleing, great acceleration, great everything. I got the car for 4000 less then blue book value, which always helps. the only problem i've had with it is a outer tierod that busted. The thing is that i don't think that was really the car's fault i drive some really really rough roads so naturally something like that would give out. i have read reviews on the monte carlo and noticed alot of people say that the rear seats are not easy to get to. Well yeah, when you buy a 2 door you shouldn't expect to be able to get into the back seat all that easily its just the nature of the beast so to speak. over all this is an excellent car!

Strength:

Style, acceleration, overall appearance

Weakness:

Road noise, low clearance, electrical malfunctions, rear seat entry, mechanical problems

At first look, this gorgeous car is pleasant to the eye. However after driving this for a little over a year, I sure wish I had investigated further into the potential problems with this car. So far I have had to have the heater repaired, the intake gasket replaced and the fuel pump replaced. Now the thing just won't start. Seems like this car is in the shop more thanI have a chance to drive it.

Strength:

I like the seats they are very comfortable and the handling of the car.

Weakness:

I have had my counsole replaced twice from it peeling. paint is poor. radio has been replaced once. Battery was cross threaded. Also I have had it in the shop 3 times now for it stalling intermittenly still can't locate problem. It is leading to be electrical

Over all if I knew I would have this many problems with a new car I would have bought one. Buying my frist brand new car I thought I was making a good decision, don't get me wrong I like the car but I have had the car for 10 months and it has been in the shop almost more than I have had regular oil changes.

Strength:

* Nice color (on the areas that weren't peeling, that is). * Lotta Room in the Trunk * I Didn't Buy It

Weakness:

* Noisy Engine * Tacky Interior Quality * Poor Ergonomics * Recalcitrant Automatic * Useless CD Player * Uncomfortable Seats * Intermittantly Functional Door Locks * Build Quality * Handling

The 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS is perhaps the worst car I've ever driven, besting (or "worsting") other questionable vehicles such as a 73 Dodge Charger, 82 Nissan 200SX, and the absolute champ of maligned vehicles, the Chevrolet Corvair (in fairness, I will note that the 65 Corvair I owned was actually a quite nicely done car despite its quirks). Luckily for me, the Monte Carlo was only a temporary loaner for about 30 days since my car (an '89 Nissan 240SX) had just succumbed to its first serious problem after 220,000+ miles. In that short time, however, my experience with this under 40,000 mile car pretty much turned me away from considering any GM products at all. From the zero-feedback, overly-assisted steering, peeling paint, tacky interior plastics, noisy V6, boat-like handling, and balky transmission, to the CD player that skipped and ejected CDs over the most minor of bumps, its easy to see how the Japanese were able to overtake domestic vehicles on almost all fronts. I recent years, I've noticed that American vehicles have improved astronomically in terms of styling, fit-and-finish, and performance, but this GM product is the hands-down nadir over ever single vehicle I've ever driven. Whatever happened the the legendary GM quality?

Strength:

Good sized engine, roomy interior, awsome stereo(200 watt stereo), cool looking car

Weakness:

Entry and exit of rear seats

I had bought a 2003 Monte Carlo SS and I love the car. When I first bought the car I didnt really like it but I grew on it. I had went to the dealer for a Camaro SS and walked out with a Monte Carlo SS. I chose the car because of it's Nascar looks and sleek body panels. When I got in the car I expected little room and a very modest interior, but it was the exact oppisite. The car was leather and had everything on it. The leg room and the shoulder room was good. I am a 6'2'' and dont fit into most cars but this one had alot of room. The engine in this car is fast and quick in acceleration. It handles well and does really good on long trips. Gas mileage is good but not really on city streets. I reccomend this car for anyone who wants a well rounded performance car.

Weakness:

I have had the rotors in the front replaced due to constant squealing of the brakes. Now it is making a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. Dealership cannot locate problem.

Real nice looking car. Love heated seats and the sunroof. Love the power. Getting good gas mileage. It is hard to park and get out of car.

The modern + retro look!!!!!!! Handling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Interior room for a coupe!!!!! Superior Blue paint!!!!!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Entry / exit rear seats. Large doors per parallel parking.

I wanted a SS but had to settle for the LS because of credit problems. I added an aftermarket ground effects and spoiler package. I loved the sexy lines of this car which are modern and retro at the same time. Whith the ground effects and high spoiler on the trunk lid my Monte looks very agressive. While I'm driving I get so many thumbs up and stares at my car I can't help but smile from ear to ear. The 3.4 Liter is decent enough performance for me because I'm more interested in the looks of the car than the performance. Now my LS w/gfx and aftermarket checkered flag decal on the front and rear quarter panels looks wayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! better than that SS that I originally wanted.

Strength:

The look --- it is an amazing looking car! It handled great before a tire blow out! It's fast!

Weakness:

Drivability in the wind... alignment not being fixed after 3 visits (see above review)... some road noise... doors are too big for some parking lots

I wanted the new body style since it was first introduced and finally purchased one. I was generally pleased with my Monte Carlo the first few months. It handled well and felt great! However, I had a tire blow out after 4 months and ever since then the car has had a terrible alignment. I've had it in for service 3 times and the problem is still not fixed. I was told by the dealer that it drives just like the new ones on the lot. I am sorry to say but it does not! I am also not pleased with how it handles in the wind. It is very hard to control! I love the look of the car. I am very indifferent towards it at this point.
