Strength:

The car is beautiful in design. It responds well when steering, has many bells and whistles, some which are very distracting, such as a radio which displays the song title and artist"s name. It's hard to drive and read the display at the same time. Getting better gas mileage around town than with the LS. Holding my breath for the other problems which may develop. I'm gun shy!

Weakness:

Interior carpeting not from Karastan. Fill in plugs in frame not painted well. Inside frame ledge under lower door edge collects rain and dirt.

I fell in love with the Monte Carlo SS, after having driven the car from hell, a 1996 Monte Carlo LS. I had it one week when I noticed paint lifting on the drivers side door above the body molding. I rubbed it with my fingers and the paint came off in three little blobs. The dealer said two looked like car door dings, and couln't explain the third. They did not believe that it might be a paint problem. With another month a rather large blob of rain water caught my eye. I again rubbed my fingers across it, and voila, another three small blobs of paint missing, but not as deep as the earlier ones. Maybe now the dealer would believe me. No such luck. They couldn't explain this one, but did warranty it out, still not believing the first happening as a paint problem. (An older Chevy Beretta had a complete new paint job.) Chevvie says the dealer is their eyes. (He does wear glasses.) As a long time user, I was completely disillusioned.

Previous cars were Plymouths (they really performed well), and a Ford Granada which I purchased while working for a Ford dealership.

Strength:

suspension, excellent handling. Good gas mileage,Great looking car inside and out, space to spare. GM looks after its customers with a no hassle warranty policy. This was important to me and appreciated. The factory top of the option list six speaker CD cassete stereo system is excellent. All around good car.

Weakness:

More power. This car is Nascar inspired everywhere but the engine. The car is fast but I would have liked to see more power. Traction in bad weather could be improved. If given the choice again I would buy any other color but black. Black cars only look good in the show room. Some difficulty getting in and out of the back seat as front seat will not stay in the forward tilt possistion without being held. Talk about depreciation! holy crap! this car has gone down 10 grand canadian since I bought it(this may not be unusual but holy crap! anyway!). So if you get one better plan on hanging onto it!

(2000 to 2004 model)I have to honestly say that this car meets most of my expectations. My black 2001 Monte currently has 55,750km (34,843 miles). This car is loaded. Heated leather seats are great! except for a repair required early on where the top of the rear leather seat was damaged by the sun. This was replaced under warranty and I further tinted the rear window as well as frequently treated the leather to avoid any future blistering. The instrument panel is well laid out. Oil life sensor and tire pressures sensor are both useful and work well. One thing to remember about the oil life system is that it may not go off until you reach 11,000 to 12000 k.m (7200 Miles approx)and if its been drilled into your head that you should change your oil every 5,000k or 3000 miles then you will get very stressed waiting for it to go off. Just remember that this system uses three different sensors to determine oil life and if that doesn't help you sleep at night then I would suggest synthetic oil. You should also be sure to reset the oil life system yourself as I find that mechanics will forget to do so occasionally, esspecial non GM mechanics who may not know it exists. This car is very comforatable to drive. I drove it from Toronto, to Daytona,Florida (5,ooo km approx) with little if any discomfort. The Nascar inspired suspension lives up to its name this car loves cornering however in my opinion, this is a fairweather car . Traction control feature is a must on this car when it comes to winter or wet weather driving, In fact on one occasion my wife had trouble getting the up our sloped driveway last winter (I'll be buying snow tires this year). I attribute this to the car's light front end. My car came with Onstar and a basic one year subscription. Its a great feature but I found it costly in the age of cell phones and did not renew the subscription. This car gets two thumbs up for space. The cabin space is comforatable the trunk is large even before you push down the fold down split rear seats. The trunk also has a glow in the dark emergency tunk release inside it (I actually had an occasion to use it and no I won't elborate). As the warranty for this car is 3 years/60,000km (you can get that extended I didn't), I recently went over the car from front to rear (I would advise doing this with any car before the warranty expires)and had a few things checked and replaced: One of the keyless remote controls, stopped working. some of the throttle body bolts holding the ground effects molding in place were missing, the rear trunk lid was miss aligned and as a result required hinge readjusment and both "lift struts" replaced. Also replaced right rear tail light assembly as I found condesation in the rear lense. All this was done under warranty and without further cost to me. The most recent problem that may need to be adressed is the rear window defrost. Despite a few minor repairs and one recall to change bolts on the rad the car comes with a high recomendation from me. My wish list for this car: Standard shift and more power. My car came with the 200 HP 3.8 V6 and even though this was the largest engine availible I would have liked to have seen a little more juice. I'm hoping someone will come up with an aftermarket supercharger or a "chip" for this model year(the 2004's have the supercharge option). I would advise that if you are in market for one you should treat yourself and get one with all the options, you won't regret it.

Body styling-looks good Nice ride for a big car-not to soft and not to harsh, comforatable at high speeds Decent gas mileage easy maintanace (3.1 Liter)

Weakness:

Transmission just had to be rebuilt (89,000 miles) and it cost $2,300

I do like my monte carlo, I just wish it had more power (But I wish every car I have had was more powerful). Its nice to drive and ride in, it has a large interior and lots of room. The tranny did go out init at 89,000 miles but I think the owner before me didn't do much mantanace on it. Overall I would recommend the monte carlo to another person

Strength:

Great gas mileage on the highway quiet quiet quiet on the interior it looks soooooooo good! powerful for such a big car, the engine really suits the car

Weakness:

it takes a little getting used to parking because the car is quite long (17 1/2 feet)

This car is great! I love it! I love driving it, and I love the way it looks. I picked a great car for the money. I always have to wonder if it is really running when I start it up because it is so quiet. I don't hear outside noise, especially on the highway it sounds great and you can carry on a conversation just fine without yelling over the engine. I have not had any of the paint peeling problems or anything like that. The car is in mint condition. The gas mileage on the highway is amazing, and the city isn't too bad considering the size of the car. I did purchase the GM extended warranty, and I will admit, I have used it once. It really was a minor problem, but I did use my warranty for it. Overall, I love this car and I plan on owning another one.

passenger space, but its a sports car, there should only be two allowed

The 3.8 V6 is a powerhouse, anyone who has ever been behind the wheel of a sports car knows that this is a true sports car. The handling and suspension is perfect, acceleration is amazing. NO WONDER THIS IS THE MOST USED CAR IN NASCAR.

I love the wood look inside. Inside look is beautiful in general. It idles very smooth (I've had several comments from friends that think my car isn't even on when we are at a light). Nice sound system. Very reliable. It rides very smooth and handles well.

Weakness:

i spend a lot on gas but I also have a huge commute to work. nothing else I guess, I love this car!

I love my Monte Carlo! I've had it since 1999 and my mom had it brand new from the lot (she loved it too!) It has over 114,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Few minor problems: the electric lock on the passenger door doesn't work anymore (but that may be due to the security system I had installed years back) and the door to the console broke off. I love it's look and it's 7 years old and just started to rust by the gas tank door. The battery finally died after 6 years (the guy at the store where I bought a new battery from couldn't believe it!)

Great gas mileage for it's size. Comfortable to ride in and drive.

Weakness:

Haven't found any yet.

This is the 3rd Monte Carlo I have had. My first was a 1970 model and was hooked on the car. My 2nd was a 1998 and it was the best car ever until I got this 2003 Monte Carlo. This car is not only nice to look at but is comfortable to ride in and drive on long road trips.
