Strength:
I is very fast and the new redsign is really sexy.
Weakness:
I have found nothing wrong withit, only things that come along with a GM coupe. Hard to get in and out of rear seat, huge door, but oh well. I love this car and will always have a monte in my garage. Similar Products Used: I had a 1999 monte carlo also and the new ones are a huge step forward from the cheap interior of the previous models. Also it has much more curb appeal, very sharp and modern. |

I love this car. I had a choice between a 98 monte carlo, and a new toyota celica. I am thankful i bought the monte because I am not a fan of oriental cars. For a 3.1L it has great pick-up, and the interior is very roomy. I am going into first year university, and this car seems like it will last. I have about 110 clicks on it, (KM) and have had not one singal bad issue. It handles greta in the winter, and is such a fun car to drive in the nice weather. Also, i got it in bright red, so it is a head turner.
Weakness:
The dashboard is a little plain, and the blindspot in the rear is terrible. It would have bene nice with an optional V8 and fog lights. I love my car. I would reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a fun, strong car.! Similar Products Used: my parents both have new high end lexus and benz's so i can't compare. We do have a 2001 impala, and a 2001 Yukon. it compares with the impala for acceleration, but no where near the yukon's power. |

Strength:
Nicely designed body
Weakness:
The fact that it is front wheel drive Bought a fully loaded model in Sept '97 and got a good deal. Replaced the transmission at about 1500 km due to irratic shifting (hidden recall). Since then it has been clear sailing with no problems - now at 60,000 km. It handles great for a heavier car and has an Ok lever of power (I always want more). Handles well enough so you can drive fast and at the same time is not a target for cops like a Mustang or Camaro. Similar Products Used: Better than a Cavalier, Sunfire etc. not as good as a Buick or Caddy. |

I love the exterior styling of the Z34 with the spoiler, alloy rims, dual exhuast and a few added emblems/decals. Interior is very sporty with a bit of class added in with the wood grain and shine of the dash/console. The 210 HP that it cranks out is great to have if your on the highway and need to pass in a hurry or going for those nice rides in town and taking off from anyone at your side! Factory speakers sound great all around on added cd decks. Keyless entry is handy. Easiest oil change I have ever done! Great heat in the cold norhtern Minnesota winters. Did I mention the looks? Heads turn!
Weakness:
Doors seem a bit heavy, battery is a task in it'self. Had to replace the intake manifold gasket after 72,000 miles. Only 1 cup holder. Location of cigerette lighter is low, radar detector cable needs to strech and gets in the way at times. The infamous left side blind spot. Manual tranny would be a nice option. And ofcourse a V8 wouldn't be too shabby. I have enjoyed every minute of using this vehicle and it has been very dependable. If I did it all over again I wouldn't hesitate on picking the Z34 Monte Carlo. Infact, I plan on keeping this one and getting a brand new one to go with it. Great Car, Nice and Fast, takes me where i want it to, when i want it to. Hardly Lets me down, other than the regular check up's ( monthly oil changes can be a good thing) Our Dept uses this car as a chase highway patrol car. Chevy have done mods on it, runs nice,
Weakness:
I think the Alternator went once, as well as the starter, new struts on the front and probbaly a set of tires......NOT BAD for 1995 and a Police car. This car is a great car for the highway, would not recomend this for daily city driving....highway stop and go's are a good thing with this car, wash it once a week, wax once a week ( if you want to keep that nice black shine ) and keep it clean, we live by these lines, take care of your car'' and your car wil take care of you. Monte Carlo LS
Strength:
Even though this is a midsize vehicle, the 3.1 liter engine pulls it along quite nicely with plenty of power to handle all types of driving conditions. The ride is smooth and quiet. The body styling is clean and aerodynamicly sound. The back is comfortable.
Weakness:
Although the steering wheel is adjustable, I have found that I must keep the wheel at a higher location than what I have been used to, in order to see the speedometer. There is a blind spot which requires greater effort in backing up or changing lanes. There is no hood light. Although the Monte Carlo's comfort level does not compare to a cadillac or lincoln, the ride is superior to other midsize vehicles of similar price. My last Monte Carlo was purchased new in 1982. That year model was a little light in the front end and seemed to float at higher speeds. The 99 supension and ride has definitely been improved since then. I would highly recommend this year Monte Carlo. It is a keeper. Similar Products Used: None |

Dangerously large blind spots It just seems like GM times their cars to go to hell a few days after the warranty ends. Please tell me why a car's fuel injectors should go bad just 3 years after it is purchased? Tell me why someone would make a 200 Horsepower car only offered as an automatic. I have had nothing but problems with this car, I have maintained my car ahead of its scheduled maintenance, and had no luck. Now I am having problems with my starter and alternator. My car barely stops when I am standing on the brakes and I have had them changed 3 times. If you are thinking of buying go with a Diesel or Turbo Jetta, or better yet a Ford. At least they offer most of their cars as a manual, the get decent mileage, and if you want power chances are the car has a fun rear wheel drive. For 28,000 its better to pay an extra 3 grand and get a Lincoln LS, rear wheel drive manual. Now that's a real luxury sports car. I will never buy a GM car, if I won one for free, I would set the accelerator and watch it fly off a cliff enjoying each moment that it shattered into millions of parts. Its a shame GM designers are blind. I wonder how drunk they were when the decided to make the Aztec. My Monte Carlo is fast off the line. It has a beautiful leather interior with all power options. I love how this car is amazingly relaxing to drive and chill in. The cd player is an added bonus which I love and works well with the decent speakers. The dual exhaust gives the car a sporty look which makes everybody turn their heads. I really like the folding rear seats which go into the trunk. This makes it easy to check on your friends in the huge trunk and able to transport long items. All the functions such as heat, ac, stero, lights, wipers, blinkers, etc. are all easy to access. I love my first car with a passion.
Weakness:
The drivers side blind spot is horrible and it is sometimes hard to see out the rear window. Though i have not had any problems yet (knock on wood) i heard that the breaks, alternater, struts, and starter can all be a problem. I also wish my moonroof was a sunroof and that the 3.4L V6 was a 5.0 V8 with rear wheel drive. But you can't have it all. This is my first car and I love it. I have been having a lot of run competeing with my friends mustangs and cameros. My Z34 keeps up and usually takes home the gold. I did throw in in flow master exhaust system which helps but nothing compares to the nitrous kit. This adds about 100 horsepower to the current 215 it already has. Though it is there if I need it almost always the stock engine performs exceptionly well. I would love if chevrolet brought back the old monte carlo ss with the V8 305. This engine and style is what true american muscle cars are suppost to be like. Until this happens I'll settle for my 96 MONTE CARLO Z34. I like the style and performance. It has a lot of get up and gopower.
Weakness:
Since ive had the car the air bag on the steering wheel has come loose, the change oil soon light stays on even though its been reset, the cd player skips all the time. Dont understand some of it. I give it a 4star. Besides the some minor problems the performance has been great. My monte has 27000miles on her now and is still going. But i do believe i paid to much for it. I could have got a 2000 for probably close to what i paid for this one. Similar Products Used: Its a sporty car and gets the looks but i liked my 1995 Dodge Intrepid better. |
