Strength:

powerful, good gas milage, good stopping power. nice comfortable interior, and nice body style

Weakness:

NONE, that I can See

I have always owned a chevrolet and i would not ever change. i have driven ford trucks before and they like to fall apart. i have been sitting here reading the reviews that people have been saying about the chevrolet Malibu and all i seem to hear about is the brakes. well I have to say that i am an auto tech. and i see the same problems in every vehicle. it is not the manufactor it is the way people use the braking system of a car. if you ride the brakes you will heat up the rotors causing them to warp, If you use very little stopping time you will wear down the brakes quicker and warp the rotors, so allow yourself more stopping time and the brakes will last longer. I have owned many Chevrolet products and every car or truck that i have owned the brakes have lasted me at least 50,000 miles. and just to let you people know I am also a vol. firefighter/EMT so I drive and use my brakes alot. And for the engine problems, the 3.1 liter v-6 not only comes in the Malibu, it also comes in the Corsica. It is all in how well you maintain a car's engine. You will only get out of it what you put in it, if you maintain it well it will last you a long time.

Strength:

Has good power, good gas mileage, Great exterior. Great transmission

Weakness:

Brakes are too small for the car, and wear too quick. Could handle bretter. Overall quality.

Brakes have been the most common problem with this car. I have replaced the brakes 4 times in 4 years, not to mention the rotors. Replaced the waterpump, Ignition, Computer, and the Cruise swith. Not to metion that the check engine and coolent light appears out of nowhere every week. The car now has 122000m on it, and is still running so I can't say much more about it.

Strength:

I'm starting to doubt if it really has any.

Weakness:

Brakes, they are terrible. I really am starting to dislike this car.

I bought this car new with 5 miles on it, 6,000 miles the car shook when you touched the brakes, dealer turned rotors. I just returned from dealer today 18,500 miles, dealer again turned rotors, said they were in tolerance would not replace them, had to replace brakes pads $90, rear brakes had to be cleaned and adjusted, and they charged me for that also. Replace switch for fresh air, it kept jumping back. Engine peck when you start cold engine, dealer said it was normal. If I had seen this web site before buying Chevrolet would still have this car. Firestone tires are horrible, 18,500 miles and they are worn out. I wish I could get rid of this car before the problems really start but can't afford to trade it, they won't give you any trade value for it.

Strength:

Good mileage, fun to drive, nice looking car. Too bad the brakes are of poor engineering design!!!

Weakness:

BRAKES!!!! I have just over 58000 miles on my malibu. Replaced front rotors and rear brakes at about 17,000 miles. (Warranty covered it) Replaced front rotors and rear brakes at 35320 miles. (Warranty covered it again) Replaced front pads and rear cylinders again at 42471 miles at my own cost ($347) Replaced rotors and rear brakes again at 57101 miles. Cost $536

Overall good car EXCEPT for the brakes. Would not buy another one. Dealership nor GM seem to care that brake replacement is excessive.

Breaks

This car has been great, the only problem I've had with this car is that it eats breaks. I've had the breaks replaced 3 times in 4 years.

Nice look.. quick car

I really like the look of the Malibu... that is why I bought it! Well in the 3 months that I have owned it, there has been a constant ticking sound in the engine... along with that, the car bucks when idle... it does not happen all the time, but when it does... I get so embarressed... the car shakes! The dealer has not been able to reproduce the bucking... THAT IS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME!! The paint is also chipping on the car... water gets into the tail lights... The visor mirror is broken...

Weakness:

Ticking sound when you start it in the winter ONLY.

I have had this car for almost 2 years and I havent had to do hardly any maintenance on mine! The only problem I have with mine is in the winter theres a tapping noise from the motor being cold.

Strength:

good air-flow over the car at high speeds keeps it stable on the highway (spoilers are just for looks, right?) roomy enuf cockpit for my 300 lbs chunky frame. 6-way adj seat gave me the perfect driving position.

Weakness:

seat belt too short - not enuf lenght to fit around my belly. need some more slack.

I bought this car w/67,700 miles on it as a replacement for my 1985 CAPRICE that had 275,000 on it after 18 years. It surprized me the amount of pick-up for a six. the stereo is decent. in one week, on the 1st warm day it began to run two notches hot above the mid line while driving in slow trafic. then it spewed a good amount of coolant when I shut it off. I noticed that the cooling fans were not spinning when the engine is running. is this normal? or should they be keeping the radiator cool at this point? I enjoyed the smooth ride on the brand new GOODYEAR EAGLES that came with the car. it handled great, floating down the highway going 100mph @2800RPM. the brakes are quiet and good, (must have had a new brake job) the whole car has not a squeak, rattle, or clink. every light & button works. so I began to read these reports. I'm sorry. I need a dependable car like the one that i was accustomed to. I donot want to risk being stranded. I am returing it to the dealer and trading it back in toward the RAM 1500 w/HEMI even if I have to suffer some loss of $$ :-( too bad. I really did like it overall.
