Strength:
Can't Kill it no matter what! It has no over drive and still gets between 25-30mpg on the highway. It has 205,000 miles. It used to have power but now it is fading away probaly because of no tune up in past 5 years. It is very comfortable. It is really easy and cheap to fix. Over all appearance is appealing with a few touch ups. Handles like it is on train tracks. Has a good factory radio along with speakers. The car is not to much to purchase neither are the parts to fix it. Easy to find parts.
Weakness:
It has no cup holders but I put my own in. I got the floor shift and i put one right on that. It is an adjustable cup holder. Than I put one on the dash. It is a ver great car. It has 205,000 miles on it and hasn't had a one problem in about 8 trips equaling about 64,000 miles. Usually when it does have aproblem it's my fault. I can floor it all the time or go off roading with it and it will not go under 20 mpg. I have had it for 4 years and I have done everything with it. I have raced on the dragstrip all summer and gone done through the roads and also snowmobile tracks. I bent the back axle getting it pulled out and still goes straight down the road when u let go of the wheel. The only thing I hate right now is I bent the rims. It has been to NYC 10 times and it is a 600 round mile trip with bigger bumps than a bus. Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer, Lincoln Town Car, Ford Thunderbird, Cutlass Ciera, 99 Bonneville |

Strength:
nice acceleration, nice room in car, and trunk nice looks, has a character back 6x9 speakers pretty nice, they played some techno pretty nice
Weakness:
none really except that torque converter clutch solenoid problem, was potentially dangerous; when the car would be warm the solenoid would lockup when it shouldn't and the car would stall on stopping or accelerating, just have to have it replaced: about $300 what is all this about cupholders, don't drink and drive, haha, it was a cool car, I had it for two years from about 44K miles-93K miles, mine was silver, I would still be driving it but a month ago a guy in a ford rental van plowed into the back and the insurance people wouldn't let me keep it, I am fine but the cops said I took quite a hit, it got me a lot of places, I used it the last two years of college, I am 23 now, (I had my first kiss, etc. in it) yeah I always felt like it had more than the 140 or so rated horsepower, either all those sports cars weren't even trying or I just burned'em, it was definitely fast, and a great highway cruiser, and if you aren't getting about 20city/30highway gas mileage than change the oxygen sensor for $25 or so, yeah you have to rotate the engine to reach it easy, here is my website; I describe the process there: www.geocities.com/Spettro9/ I also changed the steering pump, replaced a rusty heater line with a piece of rubber heater hose, and torque converter clutch solenoid needed to be replaced and I fixed the back brakes myself, yeah the calipers stick on the slides easily I guess, that is why sometimes the one side of the rotor is rusty, Chev. has better brake designs on our trucks at work, I have changed there pads, but my brakes always worked fine I just saw the rust, and started to hear some s, s, s, s, sound, so I changed the pads and it looked nice, the wide back end with the row of lights and the nice slope of the back window, I had the luggage rack/spoiler thing, that was utilitarian but sporty, hey sport-utility my mother has the 1995 Lumina and has had an trouble-free, pretty fast car for about 5 years now, she got it in 97, so since my nice 91 Lumina got wrecked, I am looking for either a black (gotta be black) 2000 Lumina or maybe black LTZ Lumina (with 3,8 V6 engine, spoiler, and alloy wheels) yeah Lumina is cool and reliable, Similar Products Used: my ownly other car was a 1987 Plymouth Reliant, it was def. pretty reliable, I have driven other cars, I like my mother's 1995 Lumina, my friend's 1992 Maxima, Buick is cool, someday I will get a hy |

Lumina LS
Strength:
Rides smooth, handles well, roomy interior and trunk,16" tires and alloy rims, good power, tracks solid and hugs the curves (keep the GA's,expensive but excellent tires), LS a good upgrade, good climate control, good delco cd/stereo (do not code in the anti theft system, 40 bucks to unlock). Six way power seat, sweet, keyless, auto dimmer interior lights.
Weakness:
The brakes, dusty on front rims, very noisy, expecially when it sits a few days when it has been raining. The brakes locked up going down my driveway, layed black rubber over 50 feet before unlocking. Front pads wear out, rear drums need cleaning. When tank is below a quarter tank, parked on a angle will not start. I bought this car new in 96', it now has 85,000 miles. I have had the front brakes replaced, the head gasket blew shortly after the warrenty expired, replaced the brake vacuum booster, the battery, and it is on it's third set of OE tires, goodyear eagle GA'S. Overall, this has been a good solid, reliable car, BUT NOT ENTIRELY TROUBLE FREE. Weakness:
The word weakness doesn't come with a lumina My Lumina is a great car. Whether it's for traveling, cruisin, or racing. The only major problem was that the tranny gave out, but that was my fault cause I saw it leaking oil and I did not care. I would recommended a Lumina to anybody. Rides smooth and looks good to. It looks better with my 18' wheels,2" drop and mirror tinted windows. My lumina is the BEST! |

Lumina Euro 3.1L
Strength:
Acceleration- this car can beat anything off the line! Reliability- with the exception of the electrical problems in the '93 model, Lumina's ROCK! Cargo space- this car can handle anything. Handeling- You might as well have glue on the tires. Climate control- the AC can run you out in the summer and the Heat is AWESOME during the cold months. Aerodynamics- this car simply slices through the atmosphere, speed is difficult to judge on the open road.
Weakness:
Breaks- The breaks can be tempermental and soft, but once you learn them, they work when it counts. Electrical system- especially in the starter and alternator, these tend to go out often and as a result, wear the battery faster. Ease of repair- The earlier models were easy to repair, the later models were designed so that only GM dealers could do a competent job. Ease of roadside assistance- again, that pesky design of the later models, while you can jump these cars by use of the "positive jumping post" connected to the battery by a small wire, it is very difficult to jump from the Lumina. Turning radius- Very large for this type of car, sometimes difficult to park. My family has been driving at least one Lumina for about 10 years now, it started with a '90 that just didn't know when to quit. That car started life as an Avis rental and had over 250000 on it when the transmition finally gave up second gear. The lumina I have now has over 100000 on it and the only complaint that I have is that the electrical system(battery, starter, alternator) is giving me fits, but this is the first Lumina we have had this kind of problem with. The breaks on all luminas tend to be soft, but we've only had to completely replace the breaks on the '90. My father and I now both drive '93s and he is kicking himself for having Mom in a Concorde. I was sad to see this model leave, but I look forward to the performance of the Impala, its replacement. Chevy got it right with the 3.1L V6! A great first car. Ideal for the college student away from home for the first time. While not advertised as a performance car, the Lumina has climbed to the top in my experiance... and it did it with the family in the back! Similar Products Used: Lumina- years 1990,1993,and 1995. Chrysler Concorde- year 1993. |

Good acceleration, great on the highway, comfortable, loads well, stable on snow and ice.
Weakness:
ABS brakes are always breaking down and have cost me too much in the last two years. It seems that just about every seal or gasket on this car has broken on it so far. I love the ride of my Lumina especially on long trips. I've been to Cape Cod from Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) and back and the miles just slip by. Great in the winter. Not the most stylish, however it's not made to be My dad bought this car new in 1995 for his work plan. Since then, this car has had NO major work done to it whatsover. It is now just soaring over 90k miles and still running pretty dang strong. My dad mostly used this car for highway miles, so not much stress was put on the engine. Since last year, I've now been drivin my father's car and haven't regretted it at all. It doesn't get all the ladies, but it sure doesn't get those high repair bills either. Strength:
Roominess, safety rating and a fairly nice ride. (The dealer reupholstered the driver seat.) Handles well in snow & ice.
Weakness:
Only 20 mpg, weak brakes and high maintenance incidents and costs: Blinker shorted out tail and brake lights, alternator replaced twice, power window motor replaced, transaxle replaced, and something to do with the engine that cost about $1,000. I decided on this car after test driving the Taurus, Sable and Intrepid. The key factors were the safety rating, comfort/roominess, and purchase cost. Since this was the first year Chevy came out with the redesigned Lumina, there wasn't a lot of research data on it's maintenance costs or history of problems. So, I purchased the car with an extended warranty which turned out to be well worth its cost! 13 days out of warranty, I was handed a repair estimate of $4,000 which included a new transaxle. I will say this for Cheverolet, they stood behind their product and covered the repairs....Didn't cost me a dime! |
