Strength:

Smooth ride, lots of room, looks the same as ''97,''98,''99 & ''00, huge trunk, great stereo, good A/C, and nice to drive around town and on long trips.

Weakness:

Low to the ground, not the easiest to get in and out of.

Purchased used in ''99. It had 46,000 miles and now has 96,000. I replaced the alternator, front brakes and a power window switch. Other than oil changes I havn''t spent any other money. It is a very solid reliable car.

Strength:

Handles well in poor weather, good cornering, perfect for long trips, a lot of headroom (room in general), spacious trunk, quick-acting & powerful climate controls.

Weakness:

Brakes: I was surprised to find that I preferred the brakes of my clunky ''92 Taurus to Lumina''s ABS. Lumina''s brakes are weaker (long stopping distance), lack feel, generate a lot of brake dust & noise. Seats should be a lot firmer and have better ergonomics. As I recently found out, parts & maitenance can be very expensive even when a car is D/C d.

I am very happy with the car that I bought. Overall, it picks up speed nicely, and the soft suspension ride makes for a comfortable ride. The car handles very well, with some floating. It is deceptively quick.

Good handling, easy to work on.

Weakness:

Count on big dollars if the airbags deploy. Mine deployed in a front end impact and busted thru the windshield and destroyed the instrument panel. Too much power is expended when the bags open.

We love this car. It has good power, good looks and is safe to drive. Unfortunately, it was just totaled in an accident. When the air bags went off, they caused over $4100 in damage. The airbags totaled the car, not body damage. Even so, we just bought a 2001. Chevrolet should not have removed this car from their lineup.

Knock on wood - I haven''t had many major problems. We bought the car in 1996 with 40,000K on it and now in 2001 it just turned over to 90,000. I sum it up to good car maintenence. When purchased it was mint with a stack of maintnece records to go with it. The only problems we''ve had was 3 years ago there was a coolent leak and a hose needed replacing. Last year I had 3 breakdowns.. but it was at 85,000 miles. These included a brake caliper break, an alternator and the fuel pump went. Duh, no one ever changed the fuel filter. I can''t complain. I recently had some minor over heating problems but the thermostat was replaced and it''s been fine since. So it''s had it''s average things going wrong. Essentially for having 90,000 miles on it - it runs great. I''m hoping to drive it for at least another 3 years. The 2 door models look very sporty. I hate 4 doors.

Strength:

Above average power (w/mods 6.75 sec 0-60 & 15.0 1/4 mile-see below), lots
of room, sporty look, handles fairly well, will beat most vehicles from
red light to red light.

Weakness:

No cupholders, costly to repair, hard to work on, change of timing belt
every 75,000km, won't beat a Z28 Camaro without nitrous despite what some
say (unless they can't drive their 6 speeds (see below))

The car is pretty fast for a V6 and handles the Canadian winters very
well. My Z34 is a 5 speed with a Hypertech Street Runner power chip,
160 stat, under drive pullies, 3" Flowmaster with high-flow cat, plus
some other minor mods AND STILL CANNOT OUT RUN A CAMARO. I know for a
fact. My 97 Z28 did 13.9 stock, and my current 98 Z28 (A4) ran 13.6
stock. Either the Z34's are running nitrous or the Z28's are not wasting
their time (unless they were V6's). But back to the Lumina. I use mine
as a winter car and it is a fun car to drive. It is roomy, peppy, hand-
les fairly well and does draw attention. I liked it better before I bought
the 97 Camaro, but I do highly recommend it.

NO CUP HOLDERS! o lord you never appreciate cup holders until you're squeezing a big gulp between your legs. has an aversion to downshifting.

I've had this car for about 8 months and have yet to have any repairs on it. When it does start making a noise or acting up I give it a day and it fixes itself.

Mileage

I purchased my 1992 Chevy Lumina Euro about 8 months ago. My first car, I took out my loan for 3500 and bought the car for $4500. This turned out to be a great investment.

I didnt know it at the time, but now I am glad i got a 92. Apparently the 91's had some major brake trouble. My euro has 4 wheel discs with ABS, and they've always done what they're supposed to do: stopped the car. And not only that, they stop it well. Don't buy a 91 Lumina unless youre willing to pay a lot for brake repairs.

I love the looks of the EURO model lumina's. Maybe its just that red trim, the big 16" tires, and that huge spoiler, but believe it makes all the diference. If you buy a regular lumina, i definately recommend getting the spoiler off a euro.
The 3.1L V6 engine is a great one. Its one of chevy's finest engines; it is known for its reliability as well as its power. At 145 rated horsepower and 160 pounds of torque, it's quick too. Right off the line is when it really stands out. Its great having the ability to lay down a little rubber whenever necessary. Its midrange power is adequete, although somewhat lacking. The 4-speed OD makes a lot of noise in 3rd gear withought actually doing anything. Its not until it FINALLY shifts at the redline when it really kicks. The car has great passing ability and really goes when it finally shifts at about 60-70 MPH. It could be faster but I'm satisfied. It'll kill a taurus any day.

Its not until you look inside when the car really shines. My euro came equipped with power locks windows, power trunk release, and my favorite feature: the power driver's seat. I love tilting it back and sliding it as far back as it goes. VERY comfortable, the perfect car for road trips. When i was looking for a car, i knew that i wanted something with 4 doors with a lot of room. Maybe it's just me, but I hate small cars that sacrifice comfort for just a little more performance. Not worth it, I'd say.
People always compliment me on how comfortable the back seats are... and if you slide up the 2 front seats, you'll have room to do whatever you (and your girlfriend ;) want to do back there...
I love the simply designed dash...It's a work of art. Chevrolet used very little plastic and minimized cluster. It's kind of soothing to get in my car after riding around in my friend's Pontiac. Pontiac does not know how to design the interior of their automobiles. My euro has fake woodgrain trim. I love it. It looks great. The big black leather wrapped steering wheel makes driving just that much better. The car has a great feel for the road, i love the handling; very smooth, and the 16" tires make taking corners at quicker speeds a lot more stable and tight.

If there's one thing Chevy perfected on the Lumina, it's the exhaust system. The lumina (3.1 anyway) sounds like a musclecar. You'll think there are glasspacks for mufflers, but actually they're not. Hit the gas a few times and you'll scare off any Honda or Ford (Taurus) that thinks they have a chance. Stick on a few chrome exhaust pipe tips and It'll look even better.

Mileage on my car isn't the best right now. I average about 220-250 miles on a full tank (about 17 gallons). I have close to 100,000 miles on her, however. When I hit 100k I'll put in new plugs and change the oxygen sensor, the sensor that tells your engine how much gas and oxygen to mix for the ideal fuel economy. As they get older, they tend to not mix the correct amount, therefore using more gas then necessary. Apparently they are supposed to be changed every 100k, although they are often neglected.

As for the sound system, the factory Delco cassete/radio had to go. When I dropped in a new Pioneer GM-Sized CD player(DEH-P47DH, checkout my epinion on it), I was amazed at how much better the speakers sounded! The 6x9's pounded, with tons of bass. They did not have the greatest high's however. All in all, if you're not in really big on your car's sound system, than the factory speakers in this car will more than satisfy you. I dropped in some Alpine 4x6 & 6x9's, and suddenly my car has this top-of-the-line sound system. The 6x9's make having subs pointless and are often mistaken for them. Even if you purchase new 6x9's, you won't notice a huge difference in bass. If you have a lumina and want to buy new speakers, than I recommend getting new front's first. It'll give you the high's you need and you'll still get plenty of bass from those 6x9's.
I have had no repairs on my car, and it now has 92K on it. The day I bought my car I fell in love with her. I become friends with people simply because they have the same type of car. I feel the lumina is the perfect car anyone looking for a comfortable, reliable, 4- door sedan with a little kick. The 1" Eibach lowering kit, which makes the car handle ten times better, able to take s-bends at 100mph, scarey as hell but fun, doesn't rattle the dash when doing 100 either, the 17" wheels are a nice touch too

Weakness:

It's a chick magnet, the girls love it but I'm married. It's very hard to find performance parts for these cars

I bought the car off of a friend 3 years ago, I have had it in my garage since then, I ripped the car apart completely, rebuilt the motor, added a Hyper-Tech chip (I highly recommend this, gives you a lot more power)added new Recaro leather racing seats (Cha-ching) new carpet, needed a better sound system so I added 2 Kicker Solo-Barics (Square Subwoofers) 1000 watt Kicker amp, Panasonic deck 6.5" Kicker Resolutions, I had to replace a trunk hinge, the Solo-Barics did some damage, now the trunk is re-inforced. Also added 17" Boyd Coddington wheels (Smoothies)and a new Silver paint job
