Chevrolet Geo Storm Midsize | Compact

Chevrolet Geo Storm Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Geo Storm was a sport compact car manufactured by Isuzu and sold in the United States by General Motors from 1990 through 1993 as part of GM's Geo line of inexpensive automobiles. The Geo Storm was a rebadged version of the sporty Isuzu Impulse minus some of that car's more expensive features. Slow sales of the Isuzu version doomed the Storm as when the Isuzu Impulse was canceled, the Geo Storm derivative had nothing to be built from, meaning both cars were discontinued in 1993.

Strength:

Geo Storm has a sporty look, its good on gas and no need to lower it cause its already pretty low.

Weakness:

Has no cup holders, very hard to find any custom parts, very small back seat ( you have to be about 3'0" or you'll hit your head on the back window),and no backseat ash tray.

I know it looks like this ain't the greatest car in the world.. but I love my car. I paid $6000 for her and she hasnt had any major problems.

Strength:

It has amazing power off the line for a 4cy. Great on gas, cornering is good for the weight of the car.

Weakness:

PARTS! Its hard to find used parts for the car, new ones are out there but they are going to cost ya.

I like it. The person I got it from purchased the car new and decided to sell when the ran up on a curb and busted the left axel and lower control arm. I've since replaced the needed parts and it runs great. The car has just a little over 60K miles on it, so I expect it to be a great work car for many years to come.

Strength:

Looks like a sporty car. Has decent acceleration off the line.

Weakness:

The 90 hp engine just doesn't really cut it. The shifter is too balky (needs to be exchanged for a short shifter). Major idle problems.

Overall, if you can get one for cheap without many miles, it wouldn't make a bad first car. But watch out once the miles start climbing because the car starts really showing its age and signs of wear. I was unfortunate to catch mine right before the downward spiral (started about 100,000 miles).

Strength:

Roomy, comfortable, and sporty! This car handles very well around town and on the highway. I've had mine since '92. It's got about 109K on it and still runs like a champ! I especially like that you can take the rear windows out on a nice day, or if you're toting around long items (like brooms, big plants, etc.)

Weakness:

Like any vehicle over 100,000 miles, this one requires a little TLC. The exhaust manifold cracked last year and there were problems with a disintegrated steering column. (Both problems have been fixed 100%.) I was told that the manifold problem is common with Storms, so watch out!

I have read several reviews about the interior "noise" factor. Personally, it never really bothered me as I always have the stereo turned up very loud. hee

In '92, I paid around $8500 for this wagon. It was actually a lease vehicle before I bought it and was in like-new shape. I especially like the interior aesthetics--the dash, for example, is very unusual. You've got that wrap-around which makes you feel like you're in a space pod.

Back then, airbags were all the rage and now I wish there were a handy on/off switch to turn mine off. All-in-all, I would recommend this car to anyone considering a purchase. It sure would be nice if they still made these cars. I would definitely love to buy a Storm 2000!

Geo Metro (2-door). The Metro and Storm are different vehicles, of course, but I was a fan of Geo's back then. Metro's are small and low-end, but hey--you can't beat their economy and gas mileage! They are good little cars and I still love them.

Strength:

Small and handles well. Stylish looks without the prices.

Weakness:

have spent more to fix it than I did to buy it $74000 CAN. Door prone to problems as the body around the latch is poorly reinforced. Spark plug, brakes, and other probems make this car a real chore. If you dont mind working on it yourself it can be reasonably reliable. Never broke down but been close a few times.

Believe it or not I love my Storm, it is reliable to a point and can be fun to drive. Nevertheless it costs an arm and a leg to replace anything, headlights are pricey, and parts are harder to find than normal. bottom line not a bad first car but get ready for some headaches.

Strength:

The looks of a sports car, Handles like its on rails. Good top-end HP. Practicle. Good AC.

Weakness:

Engine Noise, vibration. The Automatic trans...It has very little power off-the-line with the Auto. Wish it had a 5 spd. ! The gas milage is only 20mpg around town. Make sure you change the timing belt before 70K !! I lucked out, I had no internal damage .

Payed 6k back in 1994. Never had a major problem. Very easy to work on ( I changed the timing belt myself ).I would recommend as a first car out of school.

I think it's a good practicle car to drive. I believe it's look is very modern for a 9 yr old car !

Model Reviewed: Geo Storm Wagon/GSi

Strength:

GSI: Looks, Broad powerband, Great handling, And still gets great fuel economy!

WagonBack: Still Semi-Powerfull, Same great handling, Rear Windows are removable, and 92/93 Storm wagons are pretty rare where I live.

Weakness:

GSi: Might have ECM problems someday..... but runs fine now!! 5-speed leaves you wanting a 6-speed when on the highway.

Wagon: Underpowered compared to Base Storm (It's Heavyier),
3-speed automatic zaps lots of pep out of it.

I recieved my Storm Wagon as a Graduation Present... fell in love with it. It's great for hauling all my stuff to and from College and also allows me to have a little fun in the process. :)
I purchased my GSi Storm for 3500 because I felt the calling of more horsepower (uhh..oh) and am putting this engine in my wagon at some point in the future (I hope this summer)...
I just remember to change the oil fairly frequently and I'm sure both these cars will last quite a while longer.
