Chevrolet Geo Storm Midsize | Compact

Chevrolet Geo Storm Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Geo Storm was a sport compact car manufactured by Isuzu and sold in the United States by General Motors from 1990 through 1993 as part of GM's Geo line of inexpensive automobiles. The Geo Storm was a rebadged version of the sporty Isuzu Impulse minus some of that car's more expensive features. Slow sales of the Isuzu version doomed the Storm as when the Isuzu Impulse was canceled, the Geo Storm derivative had nothing to be built from, meaning both cars were discontinued in 1993.

Strength:

Great gas mileage, sporty, dependable, reliable.I bought this off the showroom floor in October 1992. Wish they still made them. I know when we have a snow storm, I can always depend on my Geo Storm to get me there. It has 120,000 miles and is still going strong, I keep the maintenance up and as soon as I discover a problem it is fixed. Plan on keeping this car no matter what. Very satisfied customer.

Weakness:

The only weakness I found is the back seat, it is small and I am glad my son is 17 and has his own car. It is perfect for a single person. I have had a problem with oil leaks from the camshaft seal, but this was minor, replaced both axels in the front at 90,000 but this also was minor and the timing belt has been replaced twice, once at 65,000 and once due to the oil leaks, but other then that and general maintenance, I have had no other problems

I would buy a new one if still made. I would recommend this to single or college students, this is the perfect car. But, make sure when purchased used that all the maintenance was kept up or your experience would be a bad one. They must be kept up, like anything else. I plan on keeping mine even if I purchase a new car or truck.

very reliable if you get one that has been maintained like it should be and you keep it that way.love the way they look.comfortable easy and fun to drive.

Weakness:

rust seems to be a problem for alot of storm owners.headlamps come on by themselves in cold weather(defect).door handles and locks and window cranks were not made too well.

the backseat was not made for adults but i dont use my car to joyride with friends or haul people around so it doesnt matter to me but it could be a problem for some people i guess. you really need to keep the timing belt changed every 60,000 like the book says or that 20.00 belt will cost alot more.my storm has 210,000 miles and still runs great just needs struts and leaks a little oil but its a high mileage car so i cant complain.it made it this far without major problems and i think that makes it a pretty good car.isuzu stopped making storms because it decided to go into the suv market only.i wish they would start making them again i would love to see a 2001 chevy/geo storm. would probably be one of the most reliable new cars out.oh well 2 bad.storms rock!

Weakness:

expensive parts and cup holders and stock exhuast manifold.

This car had me form the second i saw her sitting in someone eleses driveway. I drive this car 30 miles to and from work EVERYDAY and it has NEVER let me down even on the coldest of winters -20. I will NEVER give up this car IF the engine dies i will rebiuld it same with the tranny the only major repair i have had to do is a CV shaft and that was easy i would recomend this car to ANYONE! None

Weakness:

-Small backseat
-Loud on the high way
-Lights go on automatically due to malfunction (draining battery)
-I have blown multiple gaskets
-I have had many problems

I would say if this is a second car to get around town, it is good. It is small you can park almost anywhere and well used to be pretty good on gas. However, my car has had a long list of problems and I would not recommend a geo storm to anyone. I have fixed my car more times than I can count. It has has so many problems, and is definately unreliable.

Strength:

Excellent on Fuel!! 36-40mpg on HighWay. For the engine size, it has great acceleration with the 5 spd; doesn't redline until 6500 rpm.
Very reliable; never fails to start. The car had a unique look which always turns heads.

Weakness:

SOME parts can be hard to get; but most common ones are available. No intermitant wiper settings; this is easy to forgive.

I have a almost 115k miles on it and it's never let me down. No major repairs besides a new gas tank and rad. (Damn Canadian Winters) Try driving one, there is just something about this car that makes you like it!

cute as a button--- second family car-- small for a small person(me) the back seat is turned down and we use it alot for transporting things for the house. Just like a station wagon

Weakness:

blew the engine 6mo after having it, the cooling fan quit in the middle of the desert 100 mi from home in 115deg weather, also hard to get in and out of the car---

we like the sporty look of it, and the gas mileage, but had a used engine put in and the driver's side gets hot, took it to Chevy dealer and he said that we need a Steering Shaft boot, and they don't make the part anymore. So I need to locate that part, preferably used as the parts seem to be very expensive. Can some one help us to locate the part?????

Strength:

Great gas mileage, and I love the sporty look too it. It's a 2 seater and thats what i love about it most, and the 5 spd kicks ass too.

Weakness:

I have had to put a new stereo in it and new speakers cause the old ones just blew when i had the bass half way. So i had to put 2 10" Subs with a 300watt amp.

I like the car it will go and will give you a good ride for the low price and the low gas mileage. I recieved the car at 80,000 miles and it has had no problems and has gave me no problems. I love my car.

Strength:

The best qualities about this car are probably the ease of everything about it. It is easy to work on, it's got torque comin' out the tail end of it for what size car it is, and it's not that bas looking either. Probably the best quality so far though is that for it being 2001 buying it being a 93 it only has 36000 miles.

Weakness:

I really don't think it has that many bad qualities. The only bad quality I have found so far is that the driver's side CV shaft the boot on it at since it wasn't driven that much was dry rotted and it ripped. That would most likely happen to any car though.

I believe that anybody needing a car that will last them for a LONG time for cheap and cost efficient they should get one.

2000 Jetta it is up there with it on torque somewhat but you have to figure size.

Model Reviewed: Storm GSI

Strength:

Good styling and good gas milage.

Weakness:

Four speed auto transmission. Small rear seat/trunk area. Seats get uncomfortable on long drives.

Car has good power(GSI 16 valve engine), But I have had a lot of problems with four speed auto tranny. Original trans. went out at 96,000 miles, was replaced under extended warranty. Took GM dealer over two months to get/ replace transmission. Replacement tranny lasted until 126,000 miles. Now car has no first, reverse or overdrive, and the dealer wants 3000.00 dollars for the replacement transmission, plus 800.00 dollars to install it.
I would recomend the car only if it has a five speed manual in it.

Strength:

It's a very reliable car. Pretty good on gas. Very comfortable compared to other and more expensive cars. Sporty looking, and easy to sup up or make it look good.

Weakness:

Cheap parts on the interior of the car. VERY SMALL BACKSEAT!!! It could have a little more power. Cheap dashboard(mine cracked 3 days after I bought it!) The doors are very very cheap and the parts break easily. The windows are also pretty iffy.

This car is in MINT condition with only 84,000 miles on it. I put some nice rims on it and put a good system in it has been a great looking car ever since. I haven't had any huge problems with it at all, there are a few things that I could fix that are starting to wear out (i.e. the door and window of the drivers side).
