Geo Storm Wagon
Strength:
It''s super easy to quickly get in and out of tight parking spaces, handles very well when exiting expressway ramps. Has dashboard "controls for idiots", ie huge headlight and windshield on/off buttons to the right and left of steering wheel! I like all the auto GLASS that the wagon has and the fact that the rear windows can be removed, although we haven''t tried that yet, my husband jokes with me ,imagine putting our two Rottweilers in the back with the windows out and driving around. Nobody would mess with us! Very easy to conceal a decent sound system in the very back, although you loose that cargo area. Nice big front seat area for such a small car. It had a bent front stock wheel when we got it but went to Pep Boys and bought four nice but not fancy aluminum rims for $39 apiece! The darn thing had 4 new tires on it when we bought it, we lucked out.
Weakness:
We were driving back from Orlando last weekend at 85mph constant when the timing belt went out, got it repaired for around $150 with no internal engine damage. Stock intake manifold was cracked when we got it, but found it at the first auto parts store we called and it was in stock. Clear flaking off hood and roof and small rust hole between front and rear windows on passengers side, but luckily my hubby''s a paint and body man and it will soon be pretty shiny teal again! No cupholders, small backseat area, but we don''t have kids, just two Rottweilers, who one at a time fit perfectly in the big back SEAT one at a time when it''s time for a trip to their vet. Slow to take off at the light/stop, but it''s an automatic, wish we could have found the sportier GSI? manual transmission model wagon. I haven''t seen any other Geo Storm wagons driving around this area though, when we get done with her she will be a real head turner. Hopefully it will be worth it to rebuild the engine ourselves and end up with a cute, reliable, good looking PAID FOR car! I really like the little car, it''s cute, different, great on gas, I''m getting rather attached to it after owning it only a few months. See below, I list many good things about in it strengths. It had 139k miles on it when we got it, read on........ Geo storm base & GSi
Strength:
quick, handles like a true sports car (the GSi has Lotus suppension in it) tough little cars, wish they still made them
Weakness:
The coolent system after about 150000 miles goes bad and the struts go bad after 80000. This is my first car and my second car. I have had my first car for almost 5 years and I have been pretty mean to the car but it''s tough the car has been in 3 major accidents (all body work) and I have changed the timing belt once and maintained the engine very well, even thou I will race anything at a light, my first car has 96000 miles on it and the GSi that I just bought has 150000 miles on it, I''m going to treat the GSi like a baby (excpet to race) becuase it has had a lot of abuse to it and I want to restore it Similar Products Used: None |

The GSI model with a 5 speed can hang, I stomped many tricked out CRX''s in my factory GSI.
Weakness:
High maintanince car, no matter how you drive ounce you hit 100,000 you better take great care or expect a crapy car. Here it goes. Geo''s were made cheap to be sold cheap. At first the car ran great, it was a fast little car, but after 3 years and a 120,000 miles it just fell a part. Similar Products Used: none |

A little bit of speed, style, sport, and fun.
Weakness:
Needs struts in rear and cv joint are going out. I have had my geo storm for about six months now. It was my first RUNNING car. I have a 5 speed manual tranny. I love it. I have the normal problems for the Geo''s: need rear struts and other very minor stuff. I love driving it as well. It is very fun to drive on flat straight-aways. It only goes 115mph but its cool! Strength:
Good gas mileage, cheap, good acceleration
Weakness:
No room for fun! Bad tires, something vibrates under my seat, no cup holders, and a strange noise is ruminating from my exhaust. I bought my car a year ago. It was my first car and it was in pretty bad shape. I had to replace the muffler and get new tires, which i still haven''t done. It fits me perfect because I''m only 5 ft tall but my boyfriend on the other hand can''t really seem to fit. He''s 6''3". The traction sucks, and it doesn''t like to start when its raining, but i love it anyway despite how often my boyfriend makes fun of it. I love it becuase i only have to spend 10 bucks a week on gas and the pickup is really good for a small car. I can accelerate faster than my friends jeep can! I love my little car and i love you. Strength:
engine and transmission on mine has been trouble free so far i its on 213,00 miles now. Know alot of other people with high mileage storms that keep on running.
Weakness:
90-91 models have factory headlight defect. They may start blinking on and off with no keys even in ignition. May come on and stay on while you are sleeping and you wont be going anywhere in the morning with a dead battery. Usually only happens when really cold out. Just wanted to tell everyone that keeps wondering why storms backseats are so small, storms are 2+2 cars which means the cars backseat is for small kids and groceries or other stuff not for adults. Great car for single people or ones that dont have to haul alot of people around cause they really only handle about 600 pounds total. Similar Products Used: none |

Geo Storm
Strength:
The car gets good gas mileage and looks somewhat sporty. It's a good college car, as everyone has said. It gets you around and you still look somewhat cool in it.
Weakness:
The repairs are pretty frequent. My car is up to 130,000 miles now. I'm wondering how long it will last. I have replaced the tires 2 times in 2 years, the exhaust manifold cracked, and needed to be replaced, the shocks went out, the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced 2x in 2 years, the power steering fluid is leaking out. The spark plugs need to be replaced often. I've had new wires, new exhaust hoses, and radiator hoses. The boot is ripped now. The ignition coil busted. The speedometer makes a crazy whistling noise while you're driving. The "heater bypass hose" broke. Basically, the only system in the car that hasn't needed repairs is the fuel system. The headlight went out, the license plate light went out. The muffler needed to be replaced along with pipes underneath of the car. I had to replace the battery. Well, I think that's it...but there may be more that I'm forgetting about. I paid 2000 for this car and put in about 2-3000 more in 2 years. Kind of a bummer, but considering that I used it for college, it worked out somewhat well. When I bought the car it had 89000 miles on it. I wouldn't recommend this car after 100,000 miles. I am paying the price to maintain it at this point. I'm definitely considering a new car soon! Maybe a Honda!? :) Similar Products Used: This is my first car, so I can't really compare it to another. |

Strength:
Driven extremely hard by a highschool student. This student went above the 100 mph mark daily for a semester. Capable of racing any car with the right driver and co-pilot on streets or sidewalks. No matter what, always got 25 to 35 miles per gallon. Lawn job worthy. Won the 1997 off road of the year challenge.
Weakness:
Leaked power steering fluid, oil, brake fluid, and sometimes gas. Really had to know the gas pedal in order to get the storm to move quickly. Stereo smoked during long use. Another highschool student has it now. SHE has wrecked it 5 times, and it still gets 30 miles per gallon. $1,500.00 Drove from 90,000 miles to 160,000 miles and then sold it for a case of beer and 500 dollars Similar Products Used: One of a kind. |

Base
Strength:
I like the performance off the line, provided that you manually shift gears (on the automatic). Handles corners and turns VERY well. Low center of gravity and bucket seats give it a sportscar appeal. Simple to operate, warms up quickly in the winter. Small size rules in the city! Has a mean/agressive style and demeanor if you drive it right. I can drive it hard and not worry too much about major mechanical failures.
Weakness:
The back seat (hatchback) is quite small. If you fold the seat down, trunk room becomes better (but what do you want for a hatchback?). Parts are EXPENSIVE to replace, and many have to be specially ordered from a dealer. Impossible to do even minor work on it (try replacing the serpentine belts). MY gas mileage is horrible for a 4-cylinder. I get 20 to 24 MPG at BEST. Undersized fuel tank. Underpowered engine. There is plenty of room under the hood for a bigger one that could yield 180hp if engineered right. 3-speed trans in the base model just doesn't cut it, concerning automatic shift points. Doesn't like the winter too much. I would recommend it as a cheap college car or a car just to get around. If it is your main mode of transportation, make sure you take care of it, as it doesn't like neglect. I would not recommend it if you think a used one will last you 5 or 6 years. Have it as a transition car (in between saving for a newer car) at best. Similar Products Used: Haven't used any similar products (I had a 1987 Buick Century before this). |
