Blew a rod and no help offered on repairs from dealer or Chevrolet

My grandson was driving to his school in his Z24 when he heard a loud bang and opened the hood to find the engine on fire which quickly burned out. A tow to the dealer revealed that a rod had blown through the engine block and that repairs would cost $3600. The dealer advised that no help could be provided as the warranty had expired. The vehicle was well maintained and driven carefully. Don't believe I would encourage anyone to buy from Chevrolet after this experience.

I own a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier VIN# 1G1JC5244V7334161 manufactured June of 1997. My vehicle’s original A/C compressor failed under warranty in August of 2000 at 63,400 miles. The invoice indicates that no PAG oil was put in the system and the unit failed prematurely in August of 2003 due to improper installation with 129,824.6 miles. The question in my mind is: Can I expect to replace GM vehicle A/C compressors every three years with only 6,000 miles +/- 300 miles? The problem has cost me over $900.00. I have returned the repair receipts and the faulty A/C compressor manufactured by DELPHI 5271 of Moraine, Ohio, P/N 1135271, Code 012901544B, SAE J639 for evaluation on September, 27 2003 to GM. I have had no trouble with my Z since i purchased it, except for the electrical system and i had to replace a wheel bearing. I didn't like the car at first because i thought it was a girls car and i wanted an import. After driving it for awhile and feeling the power and torque the 2.4 engine had, i would'nt sell it for any amount. As a matter of fact, i just dropped over 5 Grand into the engine and body so i can show up them " every where u look" Hondas.

heavy doors electrical system ride on bumpy roads

I purchased my 1994 Cavalier with 36000 miles. The car has been good for the most part. The only major problem I had with the car is at 50000 miles, the head gasket went, but was covered under the extended warranty (YES I RECOMMEND IT). Minor and annoying problems I have encounter include having to replace the radiator twice, the switches for the interior heat stopped working, the lights inside the dash blew and the automatic door locks decided the no longer wanted to unlock. I have to say I am pleased overall with the car. I now have 160000 miles and the ORIGINAL CLUTCH!! Thats impressive. I now have a Jeep but still drive the chevy to work.

Excellent reliable used car.Especially if you get your hands on one that's been well taken care of.(as with any car) I've had zero problems,it now has 125,000 miles and still going strong.I don't know why people are complaining about the stupid things, such as heavy doors, crappy radio or anything else that doesn't matter as long as the car RUNS good. Those things can be fixed.I highly recommend buying one,as long as you do your homework first. If you're looking for something affordable and cheaper to fix should something go wrong, you should consider the cavalier. It'd make a good first car as well as a reliable only car.Just take care of it and you'll have no problems. It's one the better compact american cars, beats out the neon and escort by a loooong shot.

Little bit noisy. CD player skips when I hit a bump in the road. Could have a bigger engine V-6

For a 2002 model it drives like a new one! Its great on gas I get good gas mileage, It has a lot of options exept cruise control but the power moonroof makes up for it.

Weakness:

bad exhuast needs body work wheel alignment needs breaks needs motor mounts bad rear springs bad convertible top

when we bought the car the passnger window was stuck down and it had just got through raining so it was wet in side. on the drive home the car jumped timing and the tire went flat it also over heated and it still does. the springs and shocks were no good in the front. one day as we were driving a cop pulled us over and gave us a ticket then about 20 min later every thing form the manafold back fell off because of the springs. so i put on an old glass pack muffler and there is no converter. but after all this the car will go about anywhere but before you plan on going long distances you must check everything and i mean everything before leaving anywhere.
