Strength:

I have put new tires on it for the first time at 76,000. The originals still have approx %15 tread left. Pretty good.

Weakness:

Starting to make some squeaks I never heard before. Oh well. Getting older sucks.

This is an update on the cav I posted a while back. I have slowed down beating on the car because my wife needs it to drive accross country for her job. So far so good. She has put just shy of 28000 since end of April which brings the car to just under 80,000 miles. Still running strong. I have had one other problem since then,(another owner induced problem) I decide to put the car on jack stands to learn how the traction control works. Well, I put the car in gear and immediately the traction light comes on. Well after fooling around with that for about fifteen minutes I burned out the 2-3 coil which is the one the computer shuts on and off to regain traction. $200 mistake. One more thing, for those who do routine maintenance yourself, you know this, for those who don't, heed the maintenance schedule. The serpentine belt should be changed at the required interval, the cheap oem part DOES GO BAD. I use the Goodyear Gatorback(lifetime warranty) and so far have extended the life of the belt by more than twice the recommended belt change interval.

everthing is great car drives better than some cadillac's

Weakness:

yeah right!

This is the car! This car is great not mentioning the $9600.00 price I paid with a $400.00 dollar radio that I had installed. I live 60 miles away from the place were I work. I wake up and drive the distance everyday. I was driving this distance in a geo metro because I had to have something with great gas mileage, so that I wouldn't give all of my hard earnings to the gas companies the, “legal thieves.” It was so dangerous this car that if you drove over 55 mph the car would shake and if there was water on the ground 45 was the max, without the car starting to slide. I am just a working man and I thought that I was stuck into this car for life. So when I herd about the Cavalier I went down and found out the price and drove it. For the price, and how it drove to me it drove better than my grandpa's Cadillac. I bought it striped with the five speed for better gas mileage. It is fun to drive and has great power. I loved the car so much that I decided to drive to visit my sister in Virginia a drive total of 3000 miles that was a great trip I found that this car is not what I call striped, it has everything electric trunk opener, tac gauge, and a whole lot more. Not only did I see all this car's "striped" features it use but I found out that the car was getting 38.5 miles per gallon! In traffic! Better then my P.O.S. Geo. This car is great!

Strength:

hmm not much to speak of

Weakness:

all the above mentioned its just a very poorly put together car

I dont really know where to begin on this car guys all i can really tell u is STAY AWAY. Ive had this car less than a year and already i'm getting rid of it ASAP. the interior parts are very cheap and the accessories are as well. I've had 4 seperate problems with it so far and no sign of slowing down. First the radio preset stations just reset all by themselves i got that fixed. Then the AC was making a weird noise followed by a 300RPM jump whenever it was turned on i took it in and they said nothing wrong with it but they must have fixed something cuz it doesnt do that anymore. The passenger door sticks for the 2nd time getting it serviced and last but not least the trunk only closes when it wants to u have to slam it on average 8 times before it closes along with all the various interior parts that are already snapping off thats all the problems i've had so far

Strength:

*Gas mileage *Stereo system *Size *Steering *Brakes *Turning radius

Weakness:

*Paint job *Cup holders in odd spots *Small compartment in center console that holds no purpose, good for storing objects I suppose

Very nice car. Compared to my previous vehicle its very nice. Rides smooth, gauges work, and has good gas mileage. I can usually get a full tank on $20. Decent stero system and mine came with power windows, sunroof, and custom interior. The paint chips somewhat easily and has already started coming off from the bottom up but was quickly stopped by clear car super glue that keeps the chipping from going further. Steering is touchy but its nothing you cant get used to, it all depends on what you used to drive. EXCELLENT turning radius.

Total peice of trash inside and out!

I would imagine that by now there are not too many of these still hanging around, but if you are considering buying a Pontiac of any model dating in the 90's, i hope to change your mind. I paid $3,500 for my car, which was about what it was worth, but ended up putting over $6,000 of repairs into it before i wised up and got a Cavilier. This car gets bad gas miliage, has horrible electric problems - alternator went out, sensors kept going out casing car to die, ignition module went out FIVE times, which cost over $800 each time (three times it was free b/c it had been less than a year but the wiring was so bad that it kept shorting the part out), the gaskets cracked... and the car just cut out all the time bc the wiring would cause some of the cylindars to cut out and suddenly id go from a V6 to a four-banger.

Strength:

Very reliable, sporty-looking (2dr, spoiler, sunrf), awesome handling and maneuverability, nice spacioius trunk for size of car, more than decent gas miliage. I really like my hub-caps too, they are alloy though.

Weakness:

Cup holders are in dorky places and the forward one is too shallow, my dash cracked, even though the car was only 4 years old and i had a visor covering it, although someone told me it was b/c i used armorall, said that makes the dash pretty but hotter... who knows! Also, my dealer was a total jerk, charged me for paperwork and this 'anti-theft' device while acting like they were just part of the deal... also, the car will say it has a malfunction when the gas cap is loose... ya... always tighten the gas cap before paying $75 to have them tighten it for you! Last biff, for some reason mine has a three speed transmission, which is very dorky, and i would like power doors/windows.

I really like my car! I have never had any problems with it mechanically, and using synthetic oil, a KNN filter and a tornado air-intake-vortex-maker gives it a lot of spunk. It isnt what I would call luxury, it is all plastic or unpadded fabric inside, but it is far from ugly and, contrary to one review posted, pieces do NOT break off... not at all! My only complaints are listed below.

Weakness:

All of the above

This is the worse car I have owned. I used to love Chevy, but after purchasing this cavalier I will never own another chevy. I hae had this car for 9 months now and am already trying to trade it in! My AC is gone, Brakes need to be already be changed when the dealer had already put new ones on, plastic pieces break off easily, I tried to have a cd player installed and had to pay $60 just for the wire harness because the airbag system, theft system, and door chimes are all wired to the same harness and in doing so hte theft system acted up and now none of my gauges are working, I don't know how much gas I have, how fast I am going, or if my car is overheating or not,the odometer isn't even keeping track of how many miles my car is going. When I turn the car on I have to turn the ignition half way push in my gear button then turn the car all the way on just so I can get the car out of park!! When I take turns the tires squeel even if I am not going fast. The wind blows it all around. There's only two things that I can say are good about this supposed good economy car which doesn't even save me a lot on gas, I have a silver two door one so it is sporty looking but the paint comes off easily and it has some power for a four-cylinder 2.2 liter. I am never purchasing another chevy in my life!
