Strength:

Looks good and I don't mind the handling but thats about it.

Weakness:

Cost of repair parts, availability of parts, lots of little things to go wrong. Cost of fixing it after the warrenty runs out.

Oh, How disappointed were we in owning this car. We proudly show it because it looks great coming or going. Looks is all it has. We have own it less than a year and are planning on selling it soon. During the year its been in the shop numerouse times, Transmission had some solenoid valves replaced then back the same day we picked up for the transmission again. Stranded on the road both times. In the shop again for motor mounts, apparently they don't install steal washers on the bushings at the factory (they are expected to go bad after the warrenty ends) There is a trouble light for a bulb that is out but they can't find which one, The Brake indicator goes off on sharp turns but the fluid level is fine. Hard turns to the left results in a noise that I am told are bumpers of some kind and that they are a wear item, ( I can look forward to replacing them once a year, they only cost $50 but the labor more.) Lastly the 17" rims promote tire distruction, after discover a flat the techs always tell me that since I drove on the flat in creased the side walls, new tire $230, so far I have bought two. The keyless entry are finicky, sometimes they work from a distance other times I must walk out of my house to set the alarm. I am just tire of owning it. Thank Goodness it looks good, its my only link to not feeling foolish about buying it.

Strength:

Handles really solid. No mechanical problems even though I was concerned about the Power turbocharger at first, there has been no issues with it.

Weakness:

Couple of small detail items as described in the summary above.

Awesome car. Kick ass power in the T-6 turbocharged engine. It is scary at times since I have a heavy foot. I have had 2 problems to-date. Lugs that rusted (Replaced at no charge) and a trunk lock that malfunctioned (replaced at no charge). Otherwise, it has been an awesome driving machine. It tracks like a railroad car especially in snow and sloppy conditions. Granted, you have to learn to drive the car with it's SRS and anti lock braking system. But once you do there's no going back to a non computer comtrolled auto. I am going to buy or lease another S80 (2003) this month for my wife's X-mas gift.

roominess safety features road handling and stability comfortable seats lots of generous sized cup holders fun to drive have always had good service at dealership in the past looks, it looks awesome great price for the quality you are getting everything from what I can see

Weakness:

couldn't find any, but I will write another review when mine comes in in early 2003.

I have been anticipating the arrival of this vehicle for months now and finally got to test drive it last night. It did not disappoint. It is a well thought out SUV with a lot of leg room in the front and back. The cargo space is very generous. I drove the T6, it has plenty of power. The interior is laid out very nicely. The leather was beautiful. The interior was graphite in color and it was very impressive. I loved the silver accents in the vehicle as well. This SUV felt very solid on the road and drove very much like a car. It was smooth and pleasurable to drive. Looks great with the 18" tires. It is actually a bit bigger in overall size than my Jeep GC. I have ordered one and can't wait to get rid of my 5 month old Jeep GC.

Turning Cirle Parking, sometimes

Well, this wasn’t the first Volvo we had purchased and I think this is a definite pattern with Volvos, when you buy them you know what your going to get, reliability, performance and value for money. The S80 is one of the best saloon cars available in the middle/high range price bracket. It combines a whole host of great luxuries with more gadgets than the stars on the US flag. I have the leather seats which are a must, we’ve done 27,000 miles in our S80 and one trip has included a 1300 mile holiday around the east of France which not an uncomfortable mile was inhabited. The 2.4 litre is a little bit under powered and off the mark it needs a big push. We had the optional Satellite Navigation fitted, which is a real sweet bit of kit, it is excellently placed and positioned on the front dash and pops up out of the dash when required a sort of James Bond thing. BMW and other car manufactures seem to be placing the screen in the area you would have your air conditioning system controls which to me seems very dangerous as when you looking down your incidentally not watching the road for other cars or people, well done Volvo for the innovative feature. The system is relatively easy to use and the voice commands are clear and easy and sometimes rather humorous with things including a lisp in his vocals when he says the number 2. It has made our trustworthy map redundant and has been easily more useful than the map could ever be. The car is a big one with more than ample room for tall people and can seat 5 comfortably. The boot is very deep and practical for luggage and everyday shopping. The car is very stylish with a new Volvo image portraying safety with looks, the main competitors are BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar which I personally feel are not as good in all department as the S80. The problem with the S80s size is its turning circle, do you remember the days when learning to drive you had to practice the 3 Point Turn, well in the S80 3 Point Turns don’t exist usually about 6 or 7 is more realistic. The S80 has good MPG for a car of its size and I’m not complaining. It’s a very good steady drive and definitely one to consider if you do hundreds of miles and you want first class travel and safety.

Strength:

Safety, smooth ride, room for all. A Volvo feel.

Weakness:

Not a high performance car. Even in the turbo version. Why not make the car 2" bigger like the little produced elite model. The folks that are buying this car are looking for a big car that has some panache, but don't need the performance of a BMW or a the stigma of owning a Caddy.

A nice car that seems to be about $10,000-$15,000 cheaper than a full size BMW or Mercedes. Ride quality is good, yet the suspension is not heavy duty. I bought a non-turbo with lots of options as I thought the suspension and the extra power didn't match. Having driven other Volvo Turbos, one problem is that they lack low-end power and feel sluggish at lower speeds. Has a safe Volvo feel to it. I have not had any mechanical problems. Reading this board, I get the feeling that the 1999-2000 models were a disaster. Based on my informal inquiries, it appears that things have gotten better. Since I am not a performance guy, the extra $15,000 for a BMW 525 or an E-Class didn't seem worth it. I wouldn't argue with any who went this route. By the way, I like the Acura's, the Lexus', and the Infinity's--the seem to lack character, but there are very few problems. For a little more $, I guess I could have bought a screaming Q45.

Strength:

it looks good

Weakness:

it's poorly made. even the metal seems cheap, and i'm constantly having dings removed

this car is the most over-priced vehicle i have ever owned. i have had repeated quality problems, admittedly mostly with minor things: knobs that fall off, lights that don't work, etc. the seat memory has never worked, despite it being replaced several times. the remote keyless entry only works within about 3 feet of the car (and yes, i've checked the batteries). it has more stupid defects than any car i have been in, and for the price, i expected more than a fancy looking taurus. guess that's what i should expect since ford bought volvo!

I currently have a 1999 Volvo S80 T6. This is my forth Volvo and by far my favorite. I now have 64,000 miles on it and it's been trouble free. I did have an emission light come on but it was fixed. The dealer upgraded the software free of charge. Once the software in the 1999 S80 is upgraded this vehicle is awesome. Completely trouble free. I recommend the 1999 Volvo S80 T6 very highly. It's such an enjoyable car to drive and own. Any problems which people have with this car regarding service lights comng on will be resolved with the free software upgrade done at the dealer. As long as the cars under warranty the upgrade is free. This eliminates virtually any concern with the S80. This is the best car you can own!!!
