Strength:

Acquired with 50k miles. Virtually mint condition and powerful. Throaty sounding V8, loaded. Doesn't have disc changer, heated seats, or chrome wheels but don't care. Has all else. Love it and would buy another.

Weakness:

The instrumentation had to grow on me. Would've prefered flourecent lighting or better dials. Perhaps white on black gauges. Nevertheless, it does grow on you.

My sister and her boyfriend regularly trade cars with me. All of my family members love it. Including my older brother - with the 2001 Bonneville SSEI. Not to mention my acquiring the Aurora was enough to make him get rid of his 1996 Bonneville for the upgrade.

Anyone having doubts about this car needs to take it on a test drive. Provided the car is in decent condition (if not mint) - I could guarantee no complaints. Not to mention, the car is styled great. Muscular. Etc. There's even third-party Xeon light kits available. Real Xeon. Not that fake BLUE stuff. Xeon lights on an Aurora....I'm working on it....

None. I wanted a SUV. Dealer let me keep car for 4 hours. My mind was made up in 45mins. Plus, I acquired the car less than trade-in value. Glad too.

Strength:

capable 130mph top-end is spectacularly stable while gas mileage can be squeezed to 16-19 in the city given a bit of self-control. acceleration is deliberate and squirting only after a high 4000+ rpm winding to the 6000 shift-point. avaliable for $10k used as of this writing, earlier cited as the most collectable car of the 90's.

Weakness:

big-heavy car, this grinds down z-rate tires like chewable vitamins and gives ~10000 mile brake pads. turning radius is a joke.

i have the first run 95 edition autobahn package and have met with $$$ heartache applying the lead foot to the brilliant but detuned powerplant. bose/12disc exhibits whining like a dental drill; Attempted dealership repair 3 times. '95 tranny has been replaced TWICE. power door locks, emissions components, igintion wires, plugs, coils, water pump, belts, hoses, starter, battery all premature failure before 75k running on mobil 1 and consistantly high cruising speed.

Strength:

Smooth ride, responsive steering, excellent braking, very comfortable seating, many amenities for the price.

Weakness:

Have had some warranty repair work done, fuel rail, air conditioning failure, window power switches.

I had to manuever quickly to avoid someone pulling out in front of me and this car handled it very well. Had I bought the SUV I originally wanted, it would probably would have rolled in this instance. The car is so easy to drive. It feels like a luxury car without the luxury price tag. Having compared it with many other similar vehicles, dollar for dollar its a bargain.

Model Reviewed: Aurora

Strength:

Just a great car. Bought with 30K miles, Looks like new. Leather is perfect, car does not look used. Could eat off the engine. Better than the Mercedes c280 I just dumped. The seats are very comfortable, acceleration is great, appointments are luxurious. Shame on GM for not being able to sell enough of these cars. I love this car.

Weakness:

turning radius, gas mileage (but, what do you want from a great V8).

I have had the car a week, and it is a pleasure to drive. Acceleration is incredible, as is the smoothness of the steering. Not a sportscar, but an American luxury car, this is one comfortable vehicle. If you want a quality used car at an incredible price, right now is the time to buy. I bought this car for 14,000.00 at a dealer. The current high book is 19,300.00, low book is about 16,500.00. If you like value, and want a great car, now is the time.

Strength:

Very quick, lots of power at any RPM. Very comfortable, excellent front and back seats.

Weakness:

No memory option for the seat back.

This car is definetly worth your money.

Performance is comparable to Chrysler 300M. Although Aurora is slower, it's engine feels livelier.

32 Valve DOHC V8

Great Ergonomics, Great mid range power, not many on the road so still unique. Gold with Sandstone leather. All the bells and whistles are standard. Chrome wheels are a "must". Gets 24 mph on the open road with a V8! Great value for the price.

Strength:

The Aurora V8 4.0 is the engine everyone uses at Indy! It is the test engine for the STS Northstar "Caddy" systems. These cars will always look great. My brother and I both wanted one when they first came out. Now we each have one.

Weakness:

Minor electrical problems that were wrong when I bought it. The worst is the dual climate control freezes the pasenger in the winter and burns them up in the summer. I plan to get them fixed Monday.

The outer 2 inches of tread on the 16 inch tires (23560R16) wears fast. The Goodyears wear the quikest but give a smoother ride than the Michelins. Both only have 50 mile tread warranties. I bought 80 mile kelly tires for $108 ea. balanced. They ride great. I had the brakes done when I bought the car and put A/C plugs and wires + all filters and had the fuel injectors cleaned three months ago. I love Oldsmobiles and hope GM changes their mind about not making them anymore.

Strength:

This car is amazing, the new model is much better than the old and the old was pretty good itself. The stability system is a gem and the 250hp (in the 4.0 model) is strong. The quality is superb and meets or exceeds anything else in its class. I am proud of this as a GM worker who has seen a lot of trash put out by GM in the past. I'd be the 1st to admit the lacking quality in some GM vehicles, but this Aurora is just so unlike GM!

Weakness:

The styling is a little bland, but not enough to be unappealing. The old model looks a little better.

I hate typing so I'll keep it short. I like the car a lot.

Strength:

Interior design is sporty, luxurious and ergonomicaly perfect. Brakes are among the best I have ever tested. Car uses Regular Gas and gets excellent mileage.

Weakness:

Wind noise on driver's side is too much for a car of this quality, however, excellent stero can drown it out. This car should come with a 5 speed auto with a manual mode.

Without question, this is the best car from GM that I have ever driven, and as I stated, I think it is the best buy for an enrty level luxury/sport sedan. This car probably rates a solid 8+ on a scale of 1-10, however, with a 5 speed auto/manual trans. and a few tweeks this car has the potential to be a 10.

Test drove Volvo S-60, Mercedes C-class, Lincoln LS. Aurora is without question the best bang for the buck in this category.

Strength:

Interior is superb, nice touches, leather and real wood. The engine is silky smooth, transmission is perfect as GM is known for their great 4T80 trannys...which the 4.0 model gets. The 3.5 V6 model gets a 4T65 tranny, still good though but not as robust.
Value is great - can't get another car this good at this price with a V8. The Lincoln LS cannot hold a candle here, and I know thats a nice car, too.

Weakness:

GM needs to put its foot up these dealer's rear ends - enough said.
That GM is killing Olds is a sin because they have the best lineup of cars of any GM division.

I really like my 2001 Aurora 4.0, the V8 model. While the V6 (Aurora 3.5)is an excellent car, the v8 is more suitable for this type of a luxury car. Do not get me wrong, the V6 bumps up the value for the dollar up even more than it already is with the V8. Keep in mind that the V8 also gives you much nicer looking 17" wheels (instead of 16") and Precision Stability control, and other nice things standard. You can get SOME of these feature as options on the V6, but not all and when you add them you are pretty darn close to the V8 anyway...
This car now has 12,000 miles - trouble free and squeak/rattle free. Who says that the US cannot build a great car is still brainwashed from the troublesome 80's. I, for one, replaced a Toyota Camry XLE for this car and the difference is just too much to describe.

I also own a Buick Regal GS with the supercharged engine. This Aurora more than hangs with it - it passes it.
