Aurora 4.0 (V8 model)
Strength:
Very smooth controlled ride, Handles well, the stability control, traction control, 17" wheels, excellent interior - looks rich with nice feel, motor is sweet sounding and powerful 250hp Northstar design, easy to service, quite, sun roof goes INTO the roof instead of over top, radio is good, seats are good- heck the whole car is just great!
Weakness:
Always the same - GM dealers suck. From the uninformed salesman to the incompetent service dept. I like the car and so far no problems in the 17,400 miles driven so far. Similar Products Used: I like this car much better than the 1998 Lexus I traded in. It seemed to be a much better car than the Lincoln LS, also. |

Strength:
Great styling, impressive looks. Love the wrap around cockpit type dash. Comfortable touring car. 50K mile warranty.
Weakness:
Lots of warranty work! New transmission at 35k, still slips occassionaly. New steering rack, rear window gasket falls off on the highway, exterior trim fell off in carwash, windows leak in car wash, paint on trunk cracked and faded within two years, fuel guage replaced,etc... Unfortunately, this is not all the warranty work that was performed. Gas hog! Super Unleaded. My warranty is now up and I'm stuck paying for this car for another 4 years. Now with Oldsmobile announcing its plans to kill the brand my resale is way below what I owe. Hopefully all my problems were taken car of under warranty and this will be reliable car for the next 5 years or more. I enjoy the car, just not the problems. Similar Products Used: Oldsmobile LSS-great car never had a problem with nearly 150K miles. |

Strength:
The interior is just awesome with rich (real) wood all around and nice leather and many other touches. This interior (I hate to say) puts my husbands 1999 Cadillac STS to shame as it has more wood and much better styling cues. The engine is a gem. Its a 4.0L V8 Northstar that really moves the car with authority. The same basic engine as in my husband's STS, except his makes 50hp more. But, for $12,000 less, I'll eat the 50hp. The car drives nice and feels in control. Loads of features in this car, too!! Everything I wanted is here including stability control, traction control, level ride (ok I am a big woman!), 17" wheels, etc...
Weakness:
Well, the dealerships as mentioned by someone else leave a bit to be desired - but they try real hard. I would also like to see maybe another 25hp squeezed out. There is plenty of power now, but more is always better. Maybe also bring back the autobahn package that was available on the older Auroras. A great car that I knew GM could build. Of course, once they get something right they stop. The Olds division will be terminated, but they have until atleast 2005. So, reap the great deals out there between the rebates and free extended warranty you can't beat it. My car has every option in listed in the price label a hair under $40,000. After the rebates and other deals, I paid $34,000. Can't touch a foreign car (especially w/V8) for that money that is a nicely equipted!!! BUY IT!! Similar Products Used: Cadillac STS |

Strength:
Great riding car, lots of power with the 4.0 V-8. Much improved car over the older style, which was still a great car. This car has quality writen all over it and it has a great European "feel" to it.
Weakness:
The dealership sucks. Nothing but trouble w/service dept. They are incompetent and do nothing but damage to your car. I noticed, while peaking into the service area that no mechanic was even using a fender protector while working on the cars!! I now have nicks on my NEW 40,000 car! NO excuse. One simple warranty repair became a nightmare - they left 2 nuts laying on the dash (where did they come from??) as well as not double checking the car before returning to me. Stay clear of Shaeffer and Stromenger (spelled wrong) if you are in Maryland. I could go on here, but I won't. I won't even mention the dirty condition my car was returned to me in or how they layed something sharp on my perfect leather seats. The people should have respect for others cars!! My car has less than 2,000 miles and is in perfect clean condition when dropped off only to be picked up with dirty leather seat marks and such!!!!!! I am fuming mad!! Gm builds a great car and then we have to put up with these (individually owned) dealerships. I think GM should eliminate them all and run their own dealerships with good mechanics and honest salespeople. GM doesn't have the best reputation, but this Aurora is great and it always happens with GM --- once they get someting right the stop makining it!!!! The entire olds line is nice. The Alero is a great little car, the Intrique is nice and the Bravada is great too. Similar Products Used: I like it much better than the Bonniville - too much plastic and gimmicky exterior. The Aurora will age with grace - the Bonniville will not. |

Strength:
Very good comfort, performance, style. Very reliable. A whole lot of car for the price. This could be a good collector car.
Weakness:
The Aurora will become history as an Oldsmobile. A similar car will probably be blended into one of those other GM divisions and adopt the mediocre look and performance that division has to offer. Simply a pleasure to drive. This car performs smoothly and competently at any speed up to 140 mph. The Aurora is very quiet, solid and rattle-free like a luxury car should be. Acceleration is strong. The smooth melodic performance of the 32-valve 4.0L V8 is a definite plus. (Thankfully, Oldsmobile did not offer a V6 for the '95-'99 model years.) This car has more legroom, trunk room and just plain looks better than the 2001 Aurora. The original Michelin P235/60R16 99V (150-mph) tires are well matched to the car. I replaced them with the new "Energy Plus" version of these tires and they are more quiet and corner even better than the old-style originals. Both 8-way power/heated front leather seats are very comfortable. My passengers tell me that the rear leather seats are also quite comfortable. The dual-zone automatic climate control system cools the interior in an instant, even in hot Houston summers. I think the Aurora, with its distinctive driver oriented dashboard, can best be described as a "personal luxury car with 4 doors". (The auto industry seems to only reserve the "personal luxury" title for 2 door cars.) The standard AM/FM/Cassette/CD Stereo sound system is already incredible, even with the treble/bass controls at center position. (BOSE is optional.) The Trip Computer and Driver Information Center are features some other luxury cars don't have even now. The power sunroof both tilts and slides and the chrome wheels look great on this car. Similar Products Used: I also own a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 3.5L V6. I think my '98 Aurora betters in every way. |

Luxury accommadations are very good - love the leather and real wood.
Weakness:
Cant believe GM is getting rid of Olds! The entire lineup is great! Why is it that whenever they get it right they quit??? Well, don't be afraid to buy since the car can still be serviced at any GM dealer and parts will still be available. Hey, its funny that Olds is now having record sales since the announcement to end the marque!! My overall impression so far with this car is very good. I got the V6 model intead of the V8 only because of my budget. But this car is no slouch as it moves out well. I traded my Intrique in for this car, which had the same V6. I drove the Intrique for 33,000 trouble free miles before seeing the new Aurora and HAD to have it. This car leaves no excuses to buy foriegn! So far I have 4,500 miles and so far so good. Looks like its going to be a good car like my Intrique was. Similar Products Used: Olds Intrique - great car. |

Strength:
V8 engine, Ride, Stability in winds at high speed.
Weakness:
Limited trunk space and somewhat close interior space. Purchased new in December 1994. In nearly six years the only major repair ($415) has been leaking master cylinder. Otherwise completely reliable. A pleasure to drive, especially on interstates at 65 to 75 mph. Dealer service has been generally satisfactory although mechanics seemed unfamiliar with the car for the first few years. I would buy another! Strength:
Looks, features (real wood trim, leather stills smells nice), great ride, powerful and smooth engine (probably the single strongest mechanical feature), good brakes, plenty of legroom for rear seat passengers. Generally very comfortable and reasonably quiet.
Weakness:
More rattles from dash and doors than I think should eminate from a luxury car. A number of niggling problems that were all solved under warranty. Been a year since the warranty expired and so far, so good. Trunk is large but awkward to access. We bought it used in October '97 for $19.7k with about 34k miles and just shy of two years left on the warranty. We had a number of problems that we're all taken care of including a free loner car. I suspect many of the problems were exacerbated by an inexperienced dealership service department with this model. Similar Products Used: Moved up (size and powerwise) from an '89 Honda Prelude. |

Looks, sound of the powerplant
Weakness:
everything except looks and the sound of the motor. I had this car little over two years. Dealer had the car for like 1/3 of that time. this car lived at the dealer. I was so glad when the service manager handed me the check that GM gave her to give to me. It only cost me 500 bucks to drive this car for 2 years plus 400 for tires(they split the cost with me since I never had the car again right after I got the tires). Everything that can go wrong with a car went on with this LEMON. Air compressor, oil leak, electrical, tranny(eletrical and leakes, they dropped a new one in, problem was still there), water leaks, welds letting go from the struts in the trunk, leather craking, rattles, two left floormats, tail pipe that fell, throttle cables let go, the list goes on IT WILL CAUSE YOU PROBLEMS AND HEADACHES AND EVEN THE DEALER WANTED TO BURN MY CAR, DRIVE IT OFF A CLIFF, OR HAVE AN EXCERIST FOR IT!!!!!!!! IF THERE WERE NEGATIVE STARS THIS CAR WOULD GET THEM!!!!! IT IS THE CAR FROM HELL!!!!!!! or $hitmoblie:) Similar Products Used: 91 buick, 99 camry, 99 yukon, 94 lexus |

Strength:
Great V8 engine. Smooth and fast. Comfortable. Nice Styling. Solid body. Overall value.
Weakness:
Rear window distortion (corrected in '96). Poor radio reception. This has been a great car! I have 182,832 miles as of this writing with no major problems. The engine and transmission have had no major work done on them. Ride is still solid, with no squeaks or rattles! Even after 5 years the styling still looks great. It's a shame that the new Aurora has been downsized. Similar Products Used: None |
