Strength:

I love the car, but not all the hassles since I bought it. It is luxurious and fun to drive - i just hope it is worth it.

Weakness:

Electrical repairs

I purchased this car a month ago and since doing so it has been in the shop being repaired, electronic things. The dealer had to send it out of town to a GM automotive repair shop.

Strength:

Luxury, Stability, Safety, Reliability

Weakness:

Small electrical problems, Windshield fittings are not of the best quality.

So far the best car to have, it is luxurious and has the best V8 i have seen. You do have the occasional urge to experience the surge from the V8, but i have seen that this has been so far my best experience in possessing an American Car with the least of problems.

Thisis the first "luxury" car I have ever owned. I LOVE THIS CAR! From the front, it looks like a Jaguar. From the back, an STS. It is sporty, powerful and luxurious, all rolled together. My husband loves to stomp on it and make it go vroom. He drives it hard whenever he has a chance. I too, tend to romp on this car. It makes such a satisfyingly strong growl when you do. It has a lot of power, good pickup, and the luxury options (which were all standard on this car) are wonderful. The heated leather seats have spoiled me beyond belief! With the lumbar supports and the heated seats, my aching back just about cries with relief. The sound system is fabulous. I am used to the tinny sound from import vehicles and don''t usually listen to loud music, but I find myself cranking the tunes in this car, especially on nice days when I have the sunroof open. I love the color (emerald green), but would have preferred silver or gold, so it didn''t show so much dirt. This car needs a bath every week! I like to keep it clean though, because I am so proud of it. My husband and I have put 6,000 miles on it since we bought it in November and it gets great gas mileage on long trips (usually averages about 28), plus it has tons of space in the back seat. We have traveled out of state with my in-laws and they have been perfectly comfortable back there. I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT and a rescue diver, so I have a lot of gear that I carry at all times. All of my gear fits in the trunk and I even have room left over for groceries (as long as I don''t buy the place out). We have had one repair, to replace a spark plug and some spark plug wires. Normally this would be an easy repair, as four of the plugs sit on top of the space-age engine. However, since this was one of the four on the bottom, the engine had to be taken out to reach them. Costly repair! We''d rather it was a cheaper vehicle to repair, but we love it anyway. I wish Oldsmobile was still going to be around, because they make some of the only US cars I like. I would recommend this car to anyone! Good vehicle! I want another one when this one wears out, although I prefer the body style I have to the newer, smaller versions. Love the V-8. Thank you for making this car!

Model Reviewed: 3.5 Aurora

Strength:

Comfortable luxurious interior, fully packaged standard features, smooth quiet ride, responsive acceleration, handles great on curves, traction control, clean engine compartment, driver friendly feature locations, 10 position power seats and the warranty term.

Weakness:

Misaligned body metal, gaps wider from one side to the other. A few small body paint defects. Exterior black plastic panel below windshield poorly designed attachment-fit-problem on passenger side at windshield. Low speed rear brake howl noise at near stop. The standard radio/cd player does not sound very good at all, compared to the upgrade bose.

I''m very pleased with my 2001 Aurora. So pleased that I purchased another for my wife (same car, different color). Aurora offers a sporty look and a comfortable roomy ride that we both were looking for. I accept the fact that machines/robots are not perfect and therefore, I can live with a few small body paint defects and the noticably misaligned body parts however, GM could improve in these areas. The exterior black plastic panel below the windshield did not fit properly from the date of purchase nor was it attached on the passenger side at the windshield. This caused much interior noise at higher speeds while flopping in the wind. Clearly a design problem (panel to short)and after several months and three trips to the shop, it was finally replaced with a correct fit. The rear brake pads were noisy with a howl while applying the brakes and at near stops, however GM was aware of this condition, a service bulletin was out to service departments and the pads were replaced with higher quality pads. The dealer service departments have been accomadating and willing to correct these warranty issues. The extended warranty was the smartest move for Oldsmobile. I''m not convinced however, that Oldsmobile is going out. I somehow feel this has been a marketing thing. While GM has been slow coming over the years with design change, compared to imports, the Aurora has been a smart addition. In my opinion, the Buick LeSabre is another GM choice quality automobile, however only favored by the not-so-young anymore. My past experiences with GM service departments has not been good at all however, I have noticed a great improvement since my purchase of the Aurora''s over the past year. Perhaps GM has finally figured out that service after the sale does matter to the consumer.

Good power, comfort, looks

Weakness:

way too many little things have needed to be fixed by the dealer for a car of that high of a selling price when new. Whena $35,000 car is bought, you expect it to act like a $35,000 car. Should have went with an LS.

The car overall is a good automobile. If olds tried a little harder the could have competed more directly with the BMW market.

Strength:

- The 4.0L V8. This is quite an engine. No wonder it powers the IRL. - Comfort & Style. This 7 year old car looks like it could be a new model, and the plush interior is like no other. - The ride is comparable to any $50,000 sedan.

Weakness:

COST OF MAINTENANCE!!!! The Aurora is a "SPEACAILTY CAR". This means that more than likely the only place that can work on the Aurora is the dealership, and at a hefty price. - Front Wheel Drive V8. Most cars of this class are rear wheel drive. - Magnetic Steering. While the steering is light and response is excellent, driving in wet weather takes a little getting used to. To seasoned drivers this feels a little unnatural because you can''t really "feel" the road.

WOW! This is an excellent car! It doesn''t handle quite like a sports car, but for a luxury car it kicks butt! On the interstate, I have shamed two supercharged Buicks, a BMW 750i, three Lexus'' (IS300, GS300, GS400), and a ''99 Mercedes S500. Off the line performance is not stellar, but hey, this isn''t a drag car. I test drove quite a few cars in this class and the Aurora surpassed the Cadillac STS in drivability, performance, and construction. While Lexus'' flagship, the LS 400, presented a more supple ride, the passing performance and the build quality aren''t nearly what the Aurora presents. With nearly 100,000 miles on my car, it still does not rattle and the engine runs like a CHAMP! The only qualms I have with this car is the COST OF MAINTENANCE. I am a home mechanic and I can''t even change my transmission fluid. But, this doesn''t mean you can just drive to Jiffy Lube. No. Because the Aurora is a "specialty car", this means that there aren''t enough of them around to warrant the wide sale of service equipment or the general training of mechanics. THE ONLY PLACE TO HAVE AN AURORA SERVICED IS THE DEALERSHIP (Excluding the simple oil service, which is also made more costly because of the larger oil capacity than most cars.)But, not any Oldsmobile dealership can work on the Aurora. In order to sell Auroras, the proposed dealers had to send a percentage of its sales and service staff to be certified by Oldsmobile. If a dealer couldn''t afford this, they didn''t get the Aurora or the equipment to perform Aurora maintenance. To be perfectly honest, this car KICKS MAJOR TAIL, but have it checked by a personal mechanic BEFORE you buy. If the car is sound go for it and enjoy. If not, keep looking. This can be a very expensive car to repair. If you go far enough to take the test drive, and have it checked by a trusted mechanic; have him or her pay special attention to the rear main seal. The foundry that originally produced the oil pans for the Aurora screwed up the chemical composition of the metal which over time has been known to corrode the interior baffles of the oil pan which produces an oil leak where the engine meets the transaxle. This can be very pricey to repair since the engine must be REMOVED FROM THE CAR just to take off the fluid pan. If you have more questions, please feel free to email me.

JUNK JUNK JUNK...STAY AWAY FROM 1995''s This car caused alot of stress...At least a dealer gave us $5,300 for it.

Unfortunately, I trusted this bozo, who appeared to be pretty honest. He said that he had no trouble what-so-ever with the car. What a lie that was. This peice of junk needed a heater-core about 3 weeks after we bought it ($250.00 plus labor)...A few months later, it kept hesitating at steady speeds...Then the water pump went out (over $200.00 plus labor)...the CD player would only play new cds...it it wasnt such a POS, it would have been a great value.

I love my Aurora! Im 22 and love this car. I have had all fields of vehicles. I had a 94 Camaro Z-28 with the LT-1 corvette engine and driving this Aurora makes me feel like Im back in the Z again. I love the way everything just wraps around you like you are in a cockpit. This car is gorgeous. Its very sleek and sophisticated. The only thing is, is that I cant figure out how to get the climate controls off of celsius. It is much better than my moms Lexus LS400.

placement of cup holders

We saw this car at a used car dealership after it was closed one night. We came home, read the reviews here and looked at the car the next day. It had good reviews, and we liked what we saw. We have now owned the car for approximately three months and we love it! It is the perfect mix of luxury car and sports car. It has a sporty look to it with the power of a sports car, yet it drives like a luxury car. The perks are all there -- power everything, leather seats, dual heat controls, heated seats, wood trim, sun roof, cd player, etc... We love those heated seats! Unfortunately, the memory function on our car doesn''t work, so we have to manually change the seat and mirror positions each time we change drivers, but we can live with that. Like other reviewers, I agree that the placement of the cupholders is not good. Otherwise, excellent gas mileage, comfort and power. We have taken long trips with four adults in the car and been perfectly comfortable. We average 28 mpg on the highway. The sound system is great. The trunk is roomy. I would recommend this car to anyone wanting a comfortable, powerful car. This car was purchased new for $36,000, and we got it used in 2001 for $10,500 with 85,000 miles on it. It still acts like a new car. This is an excellent vehicle and I recommend it highly. I am only sorry Oldsmobile is going under, so we can''t buy a new Aurora when we are finished with this one.
